After the murder of George Floyd I had to rewatch this. When the beat drops just gives me goosebumps. Shout out to RTJ from 615🤙🇲🇽🇺🇸✊🏿✊🏽 I believe in Black & Brown UNTIY!!! we are in the same struggle.
This whole thing needs to stop, now. Most of the people "peacefully" protesting don't even know what they are doing,. They just want to have fun. But that's enough of that. First of all, I am not pro-Obama, but I'm going to have to take his side on this on. We as the people are being idiots, the people don't even care about the facts, heck, if this young boy would've pulled a gun, and shot, this whole thing wouldn't of happened, but a cop would be dead instead, but I juess some people are civil and some aren't
the war machine part is pretty much a daily thought to me but something about the way he said it combined with the emotional beginning of the speech just made me shiver the world needs more people like Killer Mike
holy shit, when the beat drops after the speech, this is what hip hop started from, a force of positive expression to challenge the establishment and illuminate the humanity of all its participants!!
I saw them the next day in Detroit. El gave his two cents on the situation and when they came out Mike yelled "They got us yesterday but they will NOT own today." St. Andrews Hall then turned into one giant moshpit
Much love and respect to Killer Mike...the irony is tht as I sat at hm and watched the injustice unfold...I too cried and feared for my own son. He's 11 years old, stands at 5'5 with a 10.5 MENS shoe. He's an A student and a natural born athlete. He talks about attending college in Alabama, although we're in Denver. Not only do I fear that my young son has to deal with the inequalities tht come just because of his skin, but tht the very system tht is supposed to protect and serve all citizens of this country can take the life of my child and, because there is a lack of value for his skin, it would be okay in the eyes of the justice system. It's sickening that a victim of murder can be demonized to try and dismiss any wrong doing to protect the murderer. The machine has made it clear for over 400 years tht black lives do not matter and it stings like the broken and beaten backs of my ancestors to have it blatantly put in our faces by the action of our justice system with no apologies. To try and shame the American people for not accepting tht bullshit is another way of saying that because of his size and color tht it's okay for an officer to abandon all trainings and become judge, jury, and ultimately, his executioner. Yes, clearly I hv my own opinion, but for me, the truth tht rings loudly is that an unarmed child was murdered and it was covered up by the very system setup to serve and protect. It's funny to me is tht there are people here further demonizing this CHILD to deflect tht fact.
Stupid crowd just cheering while a man is spilling his guts out! Also let RTJ be the pivot of anti-racism and/or war machines!!! Also they need to make this this whole live performance including the intro into a vinyl!!! I 'll buy it!
I get what you're saying, but nobody there was thinking about how this would sound on video. We could all hear him. And I can assure you no one was mocking him. That's just not the vibe I got.
Brings back memories of seeing Disposable Heroes of Hiphoprisy the day the Rodney King verdict was handed down and the beginning of the 1992 riots. 22 years later and we're still fighting.
For those who don't know, you can download both of the Run the Jewels albums for free. If you choose to, buy some of their products and support them. One of the best duos doing it now!
I can dig how a lot of folks think the audience cheering during Mikes´ speech was disrespectful and out of place, but it reveals how little involvement with any form of activism you have. When a motherfucker is up there spilling his or her guts, speaking for the people, you don´t sit idly waiting for the end to clap and show your agreement, you let the individual know you are fucking down with the cause, you cheer scream and the energy grows dialectically.
I was at this show. Thats what made the first rtg so special imo. The energy at this show was epic. Dead end hiphop debating which rtg was best brought me here. I saw big krit at the ready room around that time too
The Trayvon Martin situation scares the hell out of me with regards to my son. This situation does not, because my son would never put himself in the situation that Mike Brown found himself in. My son would never rob a store, and my son would never attack a police officer. So, it's hard for me to sympathize with this. There are plenty of stories that symbolize the African American struggle. This just isn't one of them.
"My son would never..." is an interesting construct coming from a parent. Have you ever done anything your parents would never think you'd do? "[t]he situation that Mike Brown found himself in..." is an interesting construct too. I'm thankful that you've raised your son so well that he'll never do anything wrong in public. I'm thankful that you've raised your son so well that he'll never "fit the description of a suspect" and he'll never be on the receiving end of a negative interaction with a police officer. That's powerful inoculation. "There are plenty of stories that symbolize the African American struggle. This just isn't one of them..." is an interesting construct too. It seems like you're viewing this through the narrow band of Officer Wilson's description of the events in question, but I'm going to set that aside for a moment. Officer Wilson used deadly force against an unarmed man. He claimed that he shot this unarmed man because he was in danger, and that the young man ran from him, then turned around and charged back toward him looking like a demon. This sounds like exactly what approximately zero percent of unarmed people who have been non-fatally wounded would do in similar circumstances, but if you want to buy it, you can have the hook, the line, and the sinker for free. The part where the grand jury who was responsible for determining whether or not that story would get examined by a judge or a jury decided that they'd heard enough and, like you, would accept the word of the white authority figure over the fact that the dead person was unarmed? That's pretty symbolic of the African American struggle. Your inability to see it? That's powerful inoculation against reality.
The store owners said mike didnt steal shit and darren wilson barely had a scratch on him. Look at the evidence before acting all righteous and demonize a young, unarmed black kid you piece of human garbage.
Why are you people getting so mad at the crowd for cheering lol...its rare that we see figures speak such truth. if i was in that room i'd be cheering every word hes saying to, to let him know hes not alone and acknowledge his message is getting across..its not disrespect
I asked an elderly black coworker today, " Why didn't they just taze, or pepper spray him? " He smirked and replied, "That's for you folks." Then he let out a short exasperated laugh, and said, " They see a black man they gotta throw some fire on his ass ." After a sigh , and a nod in agreement there was a brief moment of silence. Is equality so much to ask for?
This is what love to see (besides the excessive crowd noise while KM is speaking). Rap music that makes you FEEL by artists who are passionate and talented. Nobody needs you to agree or disagree to appreciate the rawness and get your face melted. Unless you're killing it like RTJ, your opinion is irrelevant here.
ok this made me a killer mike fan. I never payed much attention to him at first. Where would anyone recommend i start with his music? Thank you in advance :)
yea, Mohomed Abdi has it right. "Reagan" is his quintessential song. I like "Jo Jo's chillin" for something more lighthearted. Incidentally, RTJ and those songs are all produced by el-P so if you don't dig 'em check out his earlier solo stuff.
Timothy Bukowski you're telling me you don't empathize w/ supporters of a violent, strong arm robber who initiated violence w/ a police officer? How insensitive and racist of you
Here I am almost a year later to say, yeah, the reality hasn't changed... Except in one important way. It hasn't gone away. It hasn't been covered up. It hasn't been forgotten. The reality may not have been changed yet, but it isn't going away. As shitty as a start as that is, it's a start. I know I'm not gonna forget, and I'm not gonna let anyone else forget. This shit needs to be addressed and dealt with, if only so our children and grandchildren can be safer, to have a better chance than the Michael Browns, Travon Martins, and George Floyds that have been victimized by a system that should've protected them, regardless of class, race, creed, or age. Stay angry. Stay focused. Stay involved in the struggle.
it was different if you were there. When he starts muttering "you motherfuckers got me" it was like the crowd was like "yes hw got you. we're here for you killer mike. we're here." that's what it felt like anyway.
even though I think that “Us against the Motherfucking Machine” will probably lead to more conflict than cooperation nigga that shit sounded so cool lmao THATS HOW YOU GET A CROWD POPPIN
I do agree with most of his words about martin King about his words are very true. I do respect his emotional reaction but damn looting isnt the thing to do.
He didn't say it others did. You want to know what's funny Mike browns family said for everyone to be calm and civil but yet when the verdict happend they where screaming burn it down. We know the real actions they want to take uga booga
I'm not saying anything bad about this guy I respect him getting emotional and speaking his heart but stating that they respect the white and not him is wrong. We all get treated like dirt
***** Killer Mike didn't have to say anything about Looting. There is video footage of ppl looting all through about the night. What kind of stance are they taking bout robbing a Cell phone and Liquor store? Shit what type of stance are they taking bout burning down a walgreens that a lot of them will need their medicine from. Angry is one thing acting like damn is animal is another.
It takes a man to cry and still kill that Mike. It's an unfortunate state that this country has always been and I'd like to say that people protesting in the streets will never amount to any significant change like it did in the 50s and 60s. I hope that most of us can agree that changes needs to happen within legislation as well as society to prevent one armed police from killing an unarmed black teenager. That change really needs to focus on both undoing the instutionalized racism that plagues all level of private and public organizations because I think this is really the core of the issue. For example a majorly white police force in an all back community, racial profiling, stop and frisk, etc. I'm sure there maybe many ops out there but I think this a clear demarcation of the segregation that still occurs across this country. And this is such a gray area that honestly there is no way to undo the things that people have been fed for generations. And the federal government taking a very conservative stance on these types of issues illustrates an unequal power struggle with local government allowing them to situations like these to be decided by a state body, which as we can see is extremely impartial even in the most apparent cases of police negligence Eric Garner, included. So long story short were fucked, what now?
Lol People saying "why he call himself Killer Mike" but haven't heard his music nor know the meaning behind the name. The reason why he call himself Killer Mike is because he kill microphones. so before you talk some shit about someone name, get to learn about that person name & it's meaning before you start criticizing & passing judgement

I got teary-eyed when Mike's voice started cracking
One of the most badass people in the genre broke down today.
This whole thing needs to stop, now. Most of the people "peacefully" protesting don't even know what they are doing,. They just want to have fun. But that's enough of that. That's what speaking from the heart does to you. Praying for the future!
When the beat dropped I got goosebumps man. Respect to RTJ
Same here man... It really gave me chills. I felt like I was in this crowd, and I couldn't help but tear up as I'm turnt up! #UsAgainstTheMachine
the war machine part is pretty much a daily thought to me but something about the way he said it combined with the emotional beginning of the speech just made me shiver the world needs more people like Killer Mike
holy shit, when the beat drops after the speech, this is what hip hop started from, a force of positive expression to challenge the establishment and illuminate the humanity of all its participants!!
From a 39 year old mom of 7. I felt his heart. It broke mine.
Listening to the energy from his speech flowing into the song gives me chills.
I was at the show, too, close to where you recorded this. I was hoping someone got it all and would share it. Thanks!
No problem!

I saw them the next day in Detroit. El gave his two cents on the situation and when they came out Mike yelled "They got us yesterday but they will NOT own today." St. Andrews Hall then turned into one giant moshpit
Power! This is how grown men in HipHop/Rap should conduct themselves.
This is huge. Thank you, Killer Mike.

I was allowed to play this for my class in history today. 7 people (guys and girls) were tearing up by the end. Amazing.
Stupid crowd just cheering while a man is spilling his guts out! Also let RTJ be the pivot of anti-racism and/or war machines!!! Also they need to make this this whole live performance including the intro into a vinyl!!! I 'll buy it!
Damn sure put a lump in my throat...
They were supporting him, and joining with him. You can't stay silent when a man is speaking for you.
I was at that show, and there was nothing that would have stopped us from making noise. You have no idea how powerful this was in person.
yeah I know but I could barely hear what he was saying sometime plus it just
feels like the rest are laughing at him or sumthing u know wat I mean?
I get what you're saying, but nobody there was thinking about how this would sound on video. We could all hear him. And I can assure you no one was mocking him. That's just not the vibe I got.

just re-watched after months and i didn't fucking expect it at all but it made me cry
For those who don't know, you can download both of the Run the Jewels albums for free. If you choose to, buy some of their products and support them. One of the best duos doing it now!
Thanks for recording this, man.
This broke me down. Thank you Killer Mike for always speaking truth to power.
Killa Mike just earned a fan. It's always been about privilege and poverty.
I can dig how a lot of folks think the audience cheering during Mikes´ speech was disrespectful and out of place, but it reveals how little involvement with any form of activism you have. That was amazing, killer mike is a wonderful human being.
I was at this show. Thats what made the first rtg so special imo. The energy at this show was epic. Dead end hiphop debating which rtg was best brought me here. I saw big krit at the ready room around that time too
a human life is far more valuable than any possession that was taken from you or could have been taken from you, and it deserves to be saved
Bought a lump to my throat.

Mike Brown may have robbed a store (which Wilson didn't know about when he put 6 bullets in him), but when did that justify a man's death.

This is why music needs these two.
Could s.o. tell me who could even downvote this epic moment? ... Fellas gotta be nuts ...
Good man Mike, you're a good man. Solidarity.
So glad I got to meet Killer Mike & El-P two Saturdays ago in Portland...
Why are you people getting so mad at the crowd for cheering lol...its rare that we see figures speak such truth. if i was in that room i'd be cheering every word hes saying to, to let him know hes not alone and acknowledge his message is getting across..its not disrespect

Killer Mike has the best speeches that touch your soul. Respect King!
Crying. That raw pain in his voice.
Killer Mike is one of the top 3 human beings on earth right now
ok this made me a killer mike fan. I never payed much attention to him at first. Where would anyone recommend i start with his music? Thank you in advance :)

R.A.P Music
Outkast ft Killer Mike The Whole World
pretty much everything he has done is amazing but listen to Don't Die and Reagan.
When will this end peacefully? :(
Who agrees?
Killer Mike is one of the favorites, if not my favorite, rapper as a person.
Why is this video next to impossible to find?
Powerful...what song do they play after mike's speech...is it off the 1st album?
Why does this have to stay so painfully relevant to this day?
I'm speechless
Facts don't care about your feelings
Timothy Bukowski you're telling me you don't empathize w/ supporters of a violent, strong arm robber who initiated violence w/ a police officer? How insensitive and racist of you
Was there 6 years ago. Shit is a sad reminder that things haven't changed

Proverbs10:19 Ang taong masalita ay malapit sa pagkakasala,
Ngunit ang nagpipigil ng dila ay dunong ang pakilala.
To the guy talking about how people think blacks above the law... did you listen to Killer Mike talk? He said it wasn't about race.
"Us against the motherfucking machine". #yes
Why are they cheering?
"These mother fuckers got me and kicked my ass today."
YEAAAAAAAAAAAH! FUCK YEAAAAAAAH *cheer cheer cheer*
