- We spent some time on the river and then it was also another bake week for me.
I want to say that we have both fun and work but to be honest I also have a lot of fun baking and for me it never feels like work.

Rocky Road Oatmeal Cookies
1 c. butter, softened
½ c. firmly packed brown sugar
½ c. granulated sugar
2 eggs
1 T. instant coffee granules
1½ t. vanilla
1 T. hot water
1% c. all-purpose flour
1 tsp baking soda
1/2 tsp salt
2 1/2 oats
1 1/2 cup chocolate chips
1 1/2 cup chopped walnuts
1 1/2 cup mini marshmallows
For old fashioned oats, add 2 T. additional flour. Spray cookie sheet with cooking spray. Beat butter and sugars with electric mixer until creamy. Add eggs and vanilla; beat well. Dissolve coffee granules in hot water. Add to butter mixture; mix well. Add combined flour, baking soda and salt; mix well. Stir in oats, chocolate chips and walnuts. To shape cookies, flatten one heaping tablespoon of dough in palm of hand. Arrange 4 marshmallows to completely cover. Repeat with remaining dough and marshmallows. Space cookies 2" apart on cookie sheet. Bake at 350° for 10-12 minutes, or until edges are golden brown. (Do not overbake).
Apricot Oatmeal Cookies
½ c. butter, softened
½ c. shortening, or all butter
2 c. granulated sugar
2 large eggs
1 1/2 tsp vanilla
2 cups oats ground in blender
2 cups flour
2 tsp salt
1 tsp baking powder
1 tsp baking soda
1/2 cup rolled oats
1½ c. coarsely chopped dried apricots
2 c. chopped almonds, walnuts, or pecans,
Preheat oven to 375° with oven rack in center position. Beat butter, shortening and sugar until light and fluffy. Add eggs, one at a time, and beat well after each one. Add vanilla. In another bowl mix ground oats, flour, salt, baking powder, baking soda and rolled oats. Gradually add to egg mixture. Stir in apricots and nuts. Bake for 10-12 minutes or until golden. Cool 2-3 minutes, then remove. Yield: 4 dozen.
Watching your videos makes me feel happy and longing for a much simpler way of life. I love the sense of belonging and community in your colony. It makes me want to become a Hutterite and have a much more fulfilling and peaceful life. I also love seeing you mom in your videos. What a beautiful woman she is
What I like about the Hutterite community is everyone has a sense of purpose. You don’t realize how important that is. And there is always someone to do something fun with! 😄
Oh yes, if someone dosen't want to or dosen't have time to do something i can always find someone else 😊

It’s the ones that walk with the Lord. We know we have a purpose.. everyone has a purpose and Jesus will let us know when the time is right 😉

My favorite cookie recipe is what I call Red, White, and Blue cookies (I make them for Independence Day or other holidays like that here in America). Just use a standard cookie dough (like sugar cookie or chocolate chip cookie base) then add craisins, dried blueberries, and white chocolate chips. Soooo good 😋

I apply butter to the top of loaves the same way - not perfect but gets the job done😉
Paddling down the river on a warm day looked so relaxing and the baking.. well you know you just made a lot of people hungry.
I don't like the smell of dog shampoo either. I've been using baby shampoo on my dogs for many years. It smells good and I'm not so worried about getting it in their eyes. Hugs to you and Kona!
Yummy! Doggy oatmeal 😂 my kitty is awful at washing himself so we unfortunately have to bathe him too. I always laugh at how his shampoo costs 5 times what my human shampoo does!

Your community is very wise to have the baker focus on baking only and not get sidetracked doing other group work in between baking tasks. Forgetting a step or missing a timed task could happen so easily if distracted. Having the baked goods turn out right is a much greater benefit than having an extra pair of hands in a group task like gardening or cleaning.
Try dawn dish liquid on the dog. It is used for wildlife.😊
We went camping this weekend! As soon as everything was cleaned up and the kids were in bed I watch this vlog LOL! As always these videos are the highlight of my week. Thank you so so much.
For my dog I make boiling water and add oatmeal into a sock and tie it off. Then emerge sock into hot water. The white foamy stuff is what makes the dog not itchy. I then use the sock after it has cooled down with the oatmeal water to scrub my dog. For a big dog I would make 2 servings in the sock maybe a mens sock also. Rinse dog after scrubbing then you can empty used oatmeal in mulching pile or garden rinse sock with the hose and use the same one every time for the dog.

Thank you for your video. If the oatmeal is placed in cheese cloth and allowed to soak in whatever liquid you are using such as water and then discard the oatmeal paste in the cheese cloth. You can have the benefits from the oatmeal without the particles.

Best oatmeal cookies are the Quaker Oats recipe with dried cherries rather than raisins. I do not like raisins so my daughter substituted dried cherries. The absolute best

Giselle, the kayaking looked like so much fun. Have you ever heard of "ice box cookies." They are considered old fashioned. You make the dough, roll it into a log shape, wrap and freeze until needed. My mom always had some in the freezer for company. There are tons of recipes on Pinterest.
My mother always made Ice Box Cookies for Christmas.
We make something similar but we call in freezer cookies, they have an apple filling

It’s cool that you are using a Mennonite cook book. We have a Mennonite colony near where I live and I see them at the store sometimes. They never interact much. I’ve noticed if I speak to the women in the presence of the men, they don’t respond to me but if I speak to them when the men are off somewhere else they are very friendly. 🤔 I have always been curious about their lifestyle but none have ever been willing to converse long enough to answer any questions. I had never heard of Hutterite before finding your channel but I love learning about your lifestyle. I have a small piece of land and I have put three homes on it and I want to have a small communal living there. I’ve always wanted to buy a lot of land and have all the family live together but most of my family thinks that is bizarre. Lol.

Giselle, you can use baby shampoo on Kona. My dogs get smelly in the summer too, after being at our cottage. Baby shampoo is not that harsh on a dogs coat, it doesn’t strip the oils from their skin like commercial shampoo does, and they smell great afterwards.

Such a lovely video and quite informative too. It is interesting how differently some shampoos smell on different dogs. I think it's body chemistry. I like baking because it's relaxing. I look forward to those cookie recipes too.

Use Dawn dishwashing liquid, the original blue, to wash Kona
We wash our dog in Dawn dish soap and he has long thick hair and smells so good afterwards. Also it helps with fleas! If your dog stills smells rinse him in white vinger and water mix.
Oh the little tiny black flies are such a nuisance and you can't pet her without getting some in your eyes
@@gisellewaldner9406 If you use the Dawn dish soap, be sure it is the Original blue one. That is the one that is safe for pets. Wildlife rescues use it a lot, especially when cleaning oil off ducks, geese, penguins, etc.

Hi Giselle, A dog groomer once told me that she uses a brush called the FURminator. I decided to try it and bought one off of Amazon and it works great on my dog that has a thick coat and would most likely do the same for your Kona.

Beautiful looking bread! I use baby shampoo for my cats so if I get soap in their eyes it won't sting. I use to bake using those big mixer bowls and had to lift them by myself to wash them out! It was crazy.
I didn't know that it dosen't sting if it gets in eyes, i learn something new everyday 😊
Save those eggshells for your chickens great calcium supplement to keep their eggs strong
Try baby shampoo a about 10 drops of essential tea tree oil. Gives a lather is very mild and tea tree will keep fleas away 😊
