  • On this episode of Flip My Jon Boat, I'll walk you through the EASY installation of EVA foam decking for your jon boat. The video will start with preparing a template for the sub-floor, then we will cut it out according to the template. Next, on of the most important steps is to WATERPROOF your sub-floor. After water-proofing and painting the sub-floor, we will install the EVA foam.

    Another tip if no one has mention. For support and added noise dampening. Add 1/2 or whatever thickness Blue Styrofoam insulation board you need under the plywood in between the support rails on the boat. It will help eliminate the hollowness and drum sound created by the plywood and add support.

    Don't know if anybody mentioned but I will staple cardboard on wood and then trace it out. Prevents it from moving. Just a thought. Great video!

    Love the EVA foam stuff but I can't imagine trying to spot a weight or a hook once you dropped it on that pattern....Love the channel will be using some of your ideas on my little winter project.

    See I was thinking about getting the Eva foam off Amazon to but the reviews were bad. A lot of people saying it wouldn’t stick or didn’t hold up. Awesome video though!

    Did you use the Pink subfloor insulation from Home Depot. Under the board? didn’t see it on the video how / when you installed.. besides that I am restoring my own boats following all your videos.!!! Grate job.. and very well explained.. keep up..!!!

    Question: How thick is the plywood you used?
    Why did you not go all the way to the edge of the board with the EVA foam? Please do respond as soon as possible. Thank you

    • @flipmyjonboat4485
      @flipmyjonboat4485  Před 2 lety

      15/32 (1/2”) I did go to the edge of the boards. I did not wrap the EVA foam around the edges.

    Does that eva foam repel water ?
    Is it easy to clean after getting fish slime on it ?
    Did you anchor the plywood to prevent it from blowing out of the boat when traveling down the road ?
    Nice job and thanks for the video.

    • @flipmyjonboat4485
      @flipmyjonboat4485  Před 3 lety +3

      It does repel water and it’s easy to clean. I did not anchor the plywood in. It was a snug fit with the ribs which prevented much movement. I did buy some 3/4” self tapping screws in the event I wanted to anchor them & was planning to anchor them to the ribs.

    How has the eva foam adhesive held up on the wood contact. Ive been told it's wont last well on a porous surface like wood.

    • @flipmyjonboat4485
      @flipmyjonboat4485  Před 3 lety

      I sealed the wood with fiberglass resin then spray painted over it so it wasn’t directly in contact with a porous wood. It held up fine. There was slight shrinking of the type of Eva foam I got off Amazon at the seams where I made cuts and butted them up. Probably 1/8” gap after it was outside this winter.

    • @flipmyjonboat4485

      It’s waterproof & slip resistant. The way it’s made makes it resistant to mold/mildew. It’s also UV resistant. Looks pretty cool too!

    Do eva foam float on water?

    • @flipmyjonboat4485
      @flipmyjonboat4485  Před 3 lety +1

      By itself...yes. Stuck to my plywood boards, I’m not sure and I hope I don’t have to find out! To make it more buoyant, I added the pink styrofoam insulation under the decking you can get from any hardware store.

  • @ninehundreddollarluxuryyac5958

    If you buy stuff from Bezos, he sends free template material with most orders. You don't need to buy a moving box from that orange store. Just don't throw your Amazon boxes away.

    How has it held up so far?

    • @flipmyjonboat4485
      @flipmyjonboat4485  Před 3 lety

      I bought the generic stuff from Amazon and there was a slight bit of shrinkage after it sat outside (covered & under a deck) this winter. Maybe 1/16” but it created enough separation to make the seams visible where I butted pieces together. To cover both pieces of decking, I had to piece it together. I would recommend buying a 2nd piece (which can be pricey- $70) so there are no seams in the event it shrunk slightly.
