Merry Christmas! The perfect time for some backstory on someone we think we know. This is a story about the seeds of tradition.
The stories we tell about people, time after time - over time - create legend. To be legendary is to be repeatedly talked about in stories, all the glorious and grievous details of which may or may not be absolutely true.
Let’s talk about a Christmas legend. He was orphaned as a child, after his parents died in a disease epidemic, and was raised by his uncle, who was bishop of a small town. The uncle raised his nephew in the church and our legend became a young religious devotee. Today, he is a household name. We’ll trace how this came to be.
