  • NEOM UPDATE: Understanding Saudi Arabia's Decision to Scale Back 'THE LINE' Project
    Saudi Arabia's surprising decision to scale back 'The Line' project, a futuristic endeavor that has been a focal point of the NEOM initiative. Originally envisioned as a sprawling 170-kilometer linear city accommodating 9 million people, 'The Line' now faces a significant reduction in scope, with plans shrinking from 105 miles to just 1.49 miles.
    The shift in plans has raised questions about the feasibility and future of this ambitious project, especially as it grapples with engineering challenges and workforce adjustments. While construction continues on a smaller scale, financial constraints, including shrinking PIF funds and oil revenue dependence, pose significant hurdles.
    Despite these challenges, NEOM's progress on other fronts, such as the Sindalah project and advancements in green energy initiatives like the massive green hydrogen production facility, highlight ongoing efforts towards sustainable development.
    Join us as we explore the implications of Saudi Arabia's decision on 'The Line' project and its broader impact on NEOM's vision for the future.

    Saudi Arabia will start with a 2.4-kilometer 'Line' by 2030, Then they'll expand it to 170 kilometers over time.

      @@sca04245 Yes, but it doesn't matter if it will eventually have 170 km or not. If they build just 2 km and achieve their goals of attracting businesses, ppl moving there, etc. - they can then carry on like that, bit by bit & it will still be a success story.

    • @sca04245
      @sca04245 Před 14 dny +1

      @@dyawr But it does matter. Words matter. Promises matter. Every scam starts with a big promise. In bin Salmon's own words the Line was meant to be a "civilizational revolution". Now they are building a neighborhood.
      Remember that revolutional highspeed trnsportation system, that connects 170km within 20mins? Wonder if they integrate that one? Remember having a city with millions of people without cars? Being run on renewable energy only?
      The line is a scam meant to attract investors, not only to the line, but also to related neom projects. Remember neom Bay? I guess succesfully scamming people may be considered a success story.

      Who will like here?
      At full scale, the Line will be home to 9 million people. Saudi Arabia population is 36 million. This mean a quarter of population has to move here! It is not clear if 9 M or even just 300k people in the country are looking for houses.
      How to make people move to the Line?
      : Give the free house? free house+ bonus? free house+ jobs?
      Force them to move?
      How do people live? Given limited no of car (may be no car) the mobility of people may be limited to walking distance.

    Its just pure simple maths. Walls 500m tall x 200m wide x 1m depth = 100,000 cubic metres.
    Length 170km or 170,000m is 170,000 x 100,000= 17,000,000,000sqm or 17bn cubic metres.
    At a cost of $1tn dollars $1,000,000,000,000/17,000,000,000= $58 cubic metre.
    That's without carbon neutral power stations, a train that will take to from end to end in 20 minutes, an airport or external sanitation and water facilities.
    Population density for 9m people 6x greater than the most populously dense city in the world, Manilla causing crowding.
    $58 a cubic metre??
    Good luck.

      That 's my thought too.
      S.A. has a population of just 36 million so moving 9 million to a new location will be very difficult: Some forced relocations may happen.
      Even with 300k people, I still wonder what kind of incentive they will get?
      Free house is a start + moving bonus? + Jobs?
      What I fear is the moving starts with coercion/manipulation!

    I met a traveller from an antique land,
    Who said-“Two vast and trunkless legs of stone
    Stand in the desert. . . . Near them, on the sand,
    Half sunk a shattered visage lies, whose frown,
    And wrinkled lip, and sneer of cold command,
    Tell that its sculptor well those passions read
    Which yet survive, stamped on these lifeless things,
    The hand that mocked them, and the heart that fed;
    And on the pedestal, these words appear:
    My name is Ozymandias, King of Kings;
    Look on my Works, ye Mighty, and despair!
    Nothing beside remains. Round the decay
    Of that colossal Wreck, boundless and bare
    The lone and level sands stretch far away.”

    That this project will fail was clear for me from the first time I heard about it. No project in which I was involved was able to be completed within the planned financial framework. And these projects were only fractions of the size of the crazy Neom project. But that'S how these rich lunatics are, simply stupid.
    Actually all the architects and engineers who were involved in the planning were lying the prince, cause they surly knew, that this idiotic project will never be finalized! But for good money, one can lie to prince 🤣🤣🤣
