It's definitely a posibility, they not be quite the same but it's close, Greninja and Lucario we meant to be with as from the get go of their res series, not to mention they connect they have.
I’m gonna say that so far ash has had a bond with atleast one Pokémon like:
Jotho: Charizard
Hoenn:septilie
Sinnoh:infernape
(Can’t day for Unova)
Kalos:Greninja
Alola: Pikachu and Lycanroc
And now Journeys Lucario.
Not saying ash didn’t have any bonds with his other Pokémon but it’s true he had stronger bonds with his Pokémon.
Plus I really love Lucario so that would work if so 😁

I think Ash,s secret power is the most important key in the bond with his all ace,s. Like he has some power full aura because pokemon now really adapting naruto and in naruto how much importance had chakra just like that in pokemon aura has that much importance.
There could be some siliarities but I don't really think he'll be the next Greninja. Their stories, while having parallels are still quite different. Maybe the Aura connection will lead to Ash doing more of Lucario's movements but I don't think they'll be sharing their pain or whatever. Just feels like a lot of slight overeaction over some overlap.
Look lucario is one of my favs, has a huge role in Ash's current team and journey, but ash-greninja was just something else! No matter what, lucario can't surpass greninja. And greninja merch has been showing up alot recently, so I'm assuming ash greninja to return soon too.
Greninja hogged way too much spotlight in XY. It overshadowed Ash's whole team, and even Ash himself. And it was portrayed as a stereotypical shonen hero with a destiny to fulfill and so on. Not to my taste.
Then guess we will see that in the future episodes of journeys.
Lucario feels like a cheap try to make a second Ash-Greninja. I especially hate how they try to make their relationship substantial, by other trainers constantly saying, that they has a strong bond. Strong bond this and strong bond that. No writers, they don't just have a strong bond, only because you just constantly other characters to say it. You know why, because we never actually saw their "strong bond". We never saw them having anything substantial in their chemistry outside of battles. Lucario and Ash never had that moment, that actually showed their bond, similar to Ash and Sceptile's talk in the woods, Charizard's realization of how much Ash cares about him, Chimchar's emotional burst moment and Ash and Greninja's promise to start their progress from the start. Lucario didn't had anything, that was even close to that. He just became an ACE without any efforts, just because it's a Lucario, he mastered Mega Evolution from the start, just because it's a Lucario and without any effort, he became one of Ash's strongest Pokémon, just because it's a Lucario. I also hate how they try to make a pseudo bond between them through an Aura ability. Their communication through Aura doesn't mean, they have a strong bond, Ash had the same amount of Aura bond with an Aura Sphere Riolu back in DP, and they knew each other less, than a day. Aura isn't a show of their bond, it's a GPS tracker inside Ash's head. I just hate Lucario as an ACE

Not really.I like megas just as much as the other game mechanics. People is just overreacting, mainly the mega evolution fans that got stuck at gen 6 and never moved on, so they want to turn any pokemon that Ash/Satoshi owns into a greninja 2.0 and any new series into the season for gen 6 references . Realistically, the only reason why Ash/Satoshi has a lucario and a gengar in journeys is probably because they were both part of the top 10 "pokemon of the year" list (the list were fans voted for the pokemon that they like the most out of all the 800+ in existence) that came out a while back before pokemon journeys. the list also had two eeveelutions which may also explain why the eeveelutions are so prominent in journeys as well.
To me the whole "aura-burst lucario" thing said by fans sounds just as dumb as the "armored evolution" rumors that came out before the gen 8 games were revealed. So I really hope that for them to not do something like that.
I doubt it. Even though there are similarities between Ash's Mega Lucario and Ash-Greninja in terms of personality and demeanor, I really don't think that Lucario will surpass Greninja as its successor.

I wouldn't say he is the next Ash Greninja, but Lucario existing is almost writing Greninja out of Journeys since it would feel wrong for both to be on Ash's team. At least if Greninja comes back, he isn't gonna stay

I think it's possible it can be even worse. Greninja is popular mostly from Japan. Lucario is one of the most popular in the whole world.
It's going to be a tight competition if locario meets Greninja they're going to have a rivalry because of their similar bond with Ash

To be honest, I don’t think lucario will be the next greninja(even though I really want him to). I say this, as since pikachu and Leon’s charizard have already battled, pikachu will most likely get the rematch not lucario. This is similar to greninja vs Alain charizard as greninja got the rematch as well. I know this is weird logic, but I feel that if lucario was the next ash greninja lucario would get the next rematch and be ash’s ace. The only real big battle lucario has been the star in was against bra and that was because b e a and her Pokémon were like rivals to lucario
