    Great video! Very easy to follow and set up. If you use and XBox 360 controller to jog your machine, you can program the buttons as well. I almost always set 0,0 at the bottom left, so I renamed the Minus X and Minus Y files to XBoxBtn1.m1s and XBoxBtn2.m1s and chose those options for the B and Y buttons in the Plug In configuration drop down menus. Can't edit the bit width and such, but I plan to always use a 1/4" steel dowel to locate the X and Y.

    Hello Charlie,
    I tried your script with a 6040 Router from ChinaCNCZone. This has a USB controller and none of your script work or some partially worked but then I could not repeat the results more than once. In addition I got many errors. In particular, when I run the edge finder I get " Maximum travel reached...." which I tried multiple distance but still the error pops up. but this error in not consistent and once or twice I was able to succeed but they the DRO was not peftectly zero after the measurement, but x was +12 microns and Y +19 microns on the display. but after I was not able to measure it anymore. The error keeps coming back.
    For the " external center finder" I get the same error right after the probe touches the first side. Once I was able to touch one side and when the probe went to the other side it stopped giving me an ( Hope I remember correctly 322).
    For the "internal center finder" in a circle ( i checked the circle option) the probe touches one side, goes rapid in the starting point, moves to the other side and after it touches goes rapid back to the opposite diameter and it stops with an error "error on line 277 -Internal error .
    In addition a couple of times once it stopped, the machine started moving again on its own with no reason. fortunately at very low speed......it is scary and fortunately I used foam with aluminium tape to test all the options.
    Unfortunately nothing works or is extremely inconsistent and dangerous to test on real parts.
    I hope you can find the magic solution for this.
    Thanks a lot for your hard work.

    great tutorials, thanks alot . any Idea where to get affordable mach 3 touch probe for scanning complex surfaces?

      I haven't really searched. The one (tool) in this video does me just fine.

    I am having a problem with internal center script. Probe moves toward x+ normally until prob touches the part. Then it returns fast but does not slow down and moves fast toward x- until i have to hit e-stop. I am using mach3.r3.43.62 . What could be the issue?

    Will this script only work on Mach 3? Or can you run it on a grbl machine?

  • @alanwood3597

    Hi Charlie, me again.
    I installed the edge finder scripts and these also work fine except if you accidentally leave the screen in machine coords. No matter which script you run it then causes a Y negative travel. Machine is a small CNCEST with RnR controller card.
    The scripts are quite useful for calibrating the X and Y movement. I bolted a 150mm parallel on the table in X and then Y and ran your scripts to find the edge of the parallel. After each script had finished I flipped to machine cords and noted the reading and then did the maths of the subtraction of the + and - readings and also subtracted twice the tool thickness. Having got an answer to the maths I fed this into the first calibration dialogue box where it asks for the distance wanted to move and then put 150mm into the second dialogue box to give the actual distance travelled. That probably is badly explained but I think you will get the gist. I did a similar routine on the Z using the tool height setter with and without a 1-2-3 block difference in height.
    I have also made a 3mm probing rod out of silver steel and put an insulated shank on it so I can using the tool setting pad in either mode depending on whether the job is conductive or non conductive.
    The only thing I have done different to your videos is put all 6 newly installed limit switches in series into one input on the RnR card. The software knows if it is doing a machine zero use of the switches or a limit action by virtue of the status at the time. Again badly explained ...

    • @sunny5rising
      @sunny5rising  Před 5 lety

      Did the calibration work out ok? If i understood correctly, i think you should only need to subtract the tool diameter once (per axis) in your calculations or tool radius twice.
      Haven't yet set my machine back up since the hurricane here in NC, but when i do, i will test the machine coords issue. Just been busy helping folks clean up and repair around here.

    • @alanwood3597
      @alanwood3597 Před 5 lety

      Hmmm ... you have got me thinking now.
      I have the probing backoff set to 1.5mm and I had a 3mm diameter probe. So what I really meant was 2 x backoff plus 2 x tool radius which I mentally was thinking as twice tool diameter which is technically a wrong way to describe it ....
      I just did an edit to the Mach3 operational screen by adding a LED next to the tool height button so you can see/test the probing contact. Found instructions on CNCnutz (Peter Passuello) CZcams site. It saves having to flip screens when testing the contact.
      Some pretty raw pictures of the hurricane shown on UK TV so good luck with the clean up.

      Interesting about the LED. Thanks for the tip. I'll have to look into that.

      Eliminate the tenths and the format of the data on line 218. It is what gives the problem is not a definitive solution, if someone can fix the problem of the format I thank you. That way it works with whole numbers.

    Great Videos and i really appreciate your level of detail, especially as a beginner. One note, the download links don't seem to result in the file being sent forward. Multiple attempts result in the site indicating my email is invalid. I checked both inbox and junk and tried with two different accounts.

    Incredibly well explained.
    Tried several scripts from others, but yours works perfectly.
    Except "center internal" returns an error on line 115.
    Probably my mistake, will try again later.

    First of all thanks for your script and your effort. i am using Mach3 with usb control. unfortunately facing problem in probing. when i take external center x ,y After the probe touches the work piece, probe is moving towards x machine zero and continuing the probe activity. please help me. thanks in advance

    Charlie, how did you electrically isolated the spindle from other parts of machine? My spindle is electrically connected with frame. Thank you!

    • @sunny5rising
      @sunny5rising  Před 5 lety +2

      My spindle came already isolated, possibly because it's a DC brushless motor. That's my guess anyway. Others with your issue have made isolating probes or isolating plastic sleeves for their spindles specifically for probing.

    Charlie or anyone
    I am running in to problems running your scripts. I am using windows 7 pro usb to tz7 tc50 controller with mach3 r3.043.066
    in auto zero tool. I touch the touch plate and it stops then backs up to the home switch, when I hit go to zero it moves down but not to the top of the part.
    on auto x+ , x-, y+, and y- buttons the probe reaches the probe the I get an error that I reached the max travel and it stop right there. Do I have a setting set wrong in mach3 that would cause this issue? any help would be appreciated as I am new to mach3.

    Dear sir, I am facing big problem with my Mach3 cnc machine. Here, we face frequent electricity cut off problem. Sometime when electricity cut off, all the X, Y, and Z value in mac3 are changing when restart the machine again. Can not start from the same point where it stopped to work. It wast my expensive wood. I want to start from the same point where it stopped.
    Is there any solution to solve the problem? Please could you help me to solve the problem?

      I have had the same problem with a power outage.. and I've also had my motors bind up and lose position.. I've solved the problem of losing where 0 is on the work piece by incorporating limit switches that I'm also using as home switches.. if you lose the true 0 position some how, for example, power outage or in my case too week of stepper motors, e-stop or when u restart just re-home the machine to 0 by pressing the ref all home button beside the dro's. Machine will go home and re zero, as long as u started cutting with machine zeroed the same way, it'll start back in the same spot. You may have to re zero the work piece but that's as easy as using edge finder again.. hope this makes since..

    Hi Charlie, great tutorial, I have a syilx7, unfortunately I can't get this to work as my probe is connected to ground, have you come across this before? Is there a solution? I have thought about making a two part probe with the top half being plastic in the collect but I may loose accuracy using a plastic probe
