      I have an LG 60PB5600 (60" plasma 72 lbs). I purchased a Video Secu MW390B mount. You say to not use Toggle bolts on 55" + TV's on arm mounts. I'm curious why. The studs in my building are metal and hollow so I think using toggle bolts is my only option. Please let me know if you have any advice.

    Very informative. Thanks for the info. I’ve used toggle bolts before but never heard of snap toggles. They look like they are much easier than trying to jam big toggles through a hole while hanging onto the screw and the item being hung- wall standards for shelving and closet brackets. Very tricky for a 70 year old woman to manage- but manage I did. Of course the bolts were so long I went through the closet wall into the bathroom. LOL! So had to cut all the bolts down with a Drexel cut off wheel... but I digress... I want to hang a 44 inch tv on a plaster wall with metal studs, if I can find one. The mount is one that has an arm that extends from wall to tilt left or right. I’ve been worried about how to do it and not sure if the 4 snap toggles will be enough. Maybe there are more holes- not sure. Someone told me I should also mount a small piece of wood below the bracket to kind of brace or take some of the weight. Anyway. Keeping my fingers crossed. Thanks again!

      Toggle bolts hold the most weight with all the weight closest to the wall. An arm mount allows you to pull the tv away from the wall which puts the weight farther out. Too much leverage on the toggle bolts allowing them to fail and tv could come crashing down.

    I've been reading through the comments and I cant believe everyone is cool with trusting toggle bolts to hold their TV on the wall. If the studs are too far apart why not fasten a 24" 1x4 between the studs and then fasten the wall mount to the 1x4. That seems more secure to me, plus it gives you that little extra space needed for the cables in the back without using spacers.

      me too. about to hang my 65 and of course the studs are off center. So i have been looking into 1x4's or plywood.

      Use a piece of 3/4 Plywood 5 1/2" x 36" plywood is stronger than most 1 x lumber.
      Your welcome.

      He's got two bolts going into the studs and two snap toggle bolts on the other side rated at 75lb per bolt. Just the two on the stud would probably hold a 100lb tv. So the other two will help and its not just drywall holding it up. Wood is a great idea and probably better but both would work just fine.

      @Cris01121 Před 6 lety

      1 inch thick lumber seems lacking as well considering these mounts are meant to go much deeper into studs. 2 sheets of 3/4 plywood would probably be good. If you can't hit 2 studs it might be worth the time to tear down drywall and add some extra support. Or do 1 stud in the center with toggles on the sides.

    thx, had a wall mount sitting around since march w no instructions, this video told me enough to get it done.

  • @funny-video-YouTube-channel

    Good technology in general. The fear is that the drywall will bend forward over time. I think those walls are not supposed to have any serious load on them.

      epSos.de I had TVs mounted using toggle bolts for years but I would Not mount a heavier plasma tv or big tv on arm mount which adds more stress to wall. however if you have a chance to tag a stud that's the best bet.

    • @ryanDogAdventure
      @ryanDogAdventure Před 6 lety +4

      When I did one I just put a 1x4 across the studs since you won't see it being behind the TV.

    • @DONNELLBRUNSON
      @DONNELLBRUNSON Před 6 lety +6

      I've seen people just use 'regular' anchors without going into any studs with disastrous results.
      Please remember that each toggle bolt used here holds 75 pounds (a total of 150 lb load capacity by using 2) and there are screws into the studs....but the TV only weighs 25 pounds. That TV will hang there for it's lifetime without failing, falling or shifting. Tampatec is correct about tightened the fasteners slowly and evenly to achieve their rated performance, and we should also check level throughout the process.
