We each have a Bic Kayak Sail and use it on Wilderness Tarpon 140. This day the wind was light to moderate we cruised along at paddling speed sometimes slightly faster when the wind picked up. These sails are super easy to use and great fun. I would recommend them for anyone wanting some fun on the water. - Sport
Made one world turn around with that 🤩
I have used the round ones for several years. They only seem to last one season so I buy the $25 ones lots of fun.
👍
See, you dont need to throw out that pop-up tent that got ripped when your drunken buddy walked through it last weekend.
Use it to make this
Where do you get this and how much is it
i bought it from my local kayak outfitter. Cost around $100 Australian
15€
Where can I get them?
You don't turn into the wind to fill the sail. To have the wind fill the sail in front of you and push you from behind, you need to turn away from the wind.
This kayak sail design can only propel you away from the wind.
Leobullet1, well.. technically it will pull you with the wind
You can zig zag or tack with it..
/..Hello!
Does this sailing system
work to all directiosn winds and for all directions cannoeing or only one way?
And how it cost?
Thanks
Never used it, but it looks downwind only since the stays don't cover other angles.
As for price, you could probably make one with some fiberglass tent poles and ripstop nylon, so the price of a cheap tent, lol
thanks

Even if you rigged the sail to propel you at right angles to the wind (a beam reach) a kayak would just slide sideways because it doesn't have a deep keel or centre board. Between the sail above the water pushing you sideways and a centre board, below the water, resisting that motion, your boat gets squeezed out, like squeezing a watermelon seed between your finger and thumb. You can't squeeze that seed out without your thumb to counter the force of your finger.
@@Leobullet1Canadians don't need a sail for their kayaks because we train 🦫 beavers to pull us, lol! Kidding aside, I had a cheap sail and had fun with it. Advanced Elements has one that is very well made.
Хороший обзор! И я себе такой брал, вот здесь ali.pub/2d09xe меньше чем за тыщу, очень доволен покупкой!
On the downside, it's fiddly to set up, and the long lines go past your legs, so a tangle hazard in the event of a capsize. Not impressed. The Windpaddle is better in so many ways.
i found it easy to set up as i leave the straps on the kayak and just clip it on when i want it. I havent used the Windpaddle, but have seen the videos, looks similar but you need to hold the windpaddle line with your hands. The Bic sail can be used hands free. Bic sail is also much cheaper.
pure stupidity, i bought a kayak mount sail for a wilderness tsunami 140 for $350. it almost put me in the water many times do to wind change. i will not buy a kayak mounted sail again!! unless it have a dagger board. in the mean time use a umbrella. if the wind gets to strong just let go of the umbrella
Ya I used an umbrella too but I had to tie fishing line to the tip of every spoke or whatever they are called to keep the umbrella from popping out. It worked fine except that it was blocking my view. I have to shop for a clear plastic one.
