His performance is timeless. His recorded version from the studio is amazing. But, this version being done live with no safety net is unmatched. I don’t know who could do that today. Honestly.

This epic and greatest performance of "Unchained Melody" done 55 years ago in 1965. Has gone on to become one of the greatest live performances in television history. In this rendition of composer's 'Alex North's' "Unchained Melody." The instrumental arrangement by the 'Andy Williams Orchestra' made prominent the string section in this the best version of them all. The 'violins' were kicking it in this version. Then you add the incomparable voice of 'Bobby Hatfield'... One of the greatest 'Tenors' in rock and roll history. And together they created a masterpiece that will live on in memoriam.
For this performance alone 'Bobby Hatfield' will go down as one of the greatest 'Tenors' in music history. May he rest in peace.

I am 81 and have heard several artist before Bobby’s version and several after. No one comes close to this, Bobby owns it. This version came out as I was headed for Viet Nam. You can feel the loneliness in the words and the way we felt as we were away from our families for one long year. Bill and Bobby always did one solo on each of there albums and while on tour. They both wanted to do “Unchained”, so they flipped a coin. The music was written as the theme for the little-known prison film “Unchained” (January 1955), hence the song title. Todd Duncan sang the vocals for the film soundtrack. It has since become a standard and one of the most recorded songs of the 20th century, most notably by the Righteous Brothers. The movie “Unchained” is about a man in prison and longing for his wife and children. Hoping his wife will still be there when he gets out. So you can now understand the meaning of the song. The movie was not very good, or so my friends told me. But we were all teenagers so what did we now. Several artists sang it and it made the billboard top 100. But no one can come close to Bobby Hatfield’s version. Bobby’s version hit the top ten chart. And did it again when it was used in the movie “Ghost” It has since become a standard and one of the most recorded songs of the 20th century, most notably by Bobby. According to the song's publishing administrator, over 1,500 recordings of "Unchained Melody" have been made by more than 670 artists, in multiple languages.

Imagine missing your boyfriend or husband who you haven't seen in almost a year. This song is a message from him. When you do get to see him you are so full of emotion. These were the songs that showed us how much we loved each other. It was the only thing we had to hold on to.

I sang this to my wife at our wedding in 1983. She, however she said I murdered it. I'm guessing it's not a song for a baritone, she told me I was of better sticking to my drumming. I thought it was an appropriate song as I was in the Royal Marine Commandos, I had returned from the war for the Falkland Islands when I proposed, and now was shipping out to Sierra Leone two days later, so much for my attempt at being romantic. On the upside she liked me in my Dress Uniform, and having my comrades forming the sword tunnel helped.
I must have done something write because we're still together. With 4 children and 7 grandchildren, we got busy on baby's when I was home. I served my Queen and Country for 34 years as a Royal Marine Commandos and in the British Special Forces, and then 2 years in hospital, and she stuck by me even though I'm wheelchair bound now. We do actually have a song by Queen called "Your Me Best Friend", a very apt song as she has been my best friend since we were both 15.

People remember Bobby's 1965 version of "Unchained Melody" from the 1990 film "Ghost." The song was originally taken from a 1955 movie called "Unchained;" about a prisoner thinking about breaking out after several failed attempts at parole in a special prison in Chino, CA. The song and lyrics were developed for the movie and sung by a lone prisoner in the Institution. Bill Medley and Bobby Hatfield sang in a local bar when a black Marine from El Toro Base at Irvine CA, shouted out to them; Yeah! "That was righteous, Brothers!" Righteous being slang for cool, great, & good.

The quintessential love song covered by many but Bobby Hatfield owns this song. One of the greatest voices of all time and not many will argue against that. Along with Bill Medley make up the greatest duo of all time. They You’ve Lost That Loving Feeling, which was the most played song of the 20th Century. Also Soul and Inspiration, Rock And Roll Heaven. Sadly Bobby passed away in 2003 but their music stands the test of times.

You cut off just as he hit the last note! You MUST play through the last note. You being an emotional person, will experience the full impact of that ending. For a man to hit C/5 is like running a three - minute mile; pole vaulting 40 feet, or breaking the sound barrier in a Cessna 224! It CAN'T BE DONE! except by this guy. Bobby Hatfield was no ordinary singer; neither was his partner, Bill Medley. Listen some more! 😁
