I’m 67 and have a passion for music. This is one of the best performances ever!
Yup!
Nothing like jamming along to some good blues and an ad comes on.
😆 I agree with ya brother
Grrrr killin my Vibe
Slide it back to replay. No commercial. Sometimes CZcams, can be a real douche tube.

The reason I love this guy’s music so much isn’t because of how technical (which it is, it’s just not fast, it’s a deeper level) yet because he puts his soul into every song. When the music tempo leads to a solo you can literally see the beast within start to want out and Gary almost goes into a trance like state where all of his inner emotions are being payed out from his guitar. That’s the spiritual part of music. I feel that and if you’re not feeling the music then what’s the point. This guys seriously one of if no the best guitarist of this generation
Yo. Best comment ever. I feel Gary is fuckin ready when his train pulls in
Its called the zone and Gary was puttin the stank on it
Fuckin aaa u feel what this guy delivers, and his guys are smokin share as well
Nothing technical about his playing. He’s a scale player. Don’t get me wrong, he’s good but not great. His vocal delivery is his greatest asset. Relies on effects way too much & dorks out a lot on the same note for too long when he takes a solo
@@stephenhanlin2388 you don’t understand his style. While metal-ish players focus on technical skills, this guys focusing on the feel the notes give. While yeah you’re right about his voice being a huge asset, his guitar is also adding onto that. Which in turn, is the basis of what the blues is. It’s all about the feel.
Gary Clark Jr. is proof that the blues still lives.
That's right. Almost lost hope
Yeah you rite paw paw. That be Soul child
Marcus King is the next gen of true blues guitarists!

Yup.
'Blues is easy to play, but hard to feel" Jimi Hendrix. This dude feels it!
+dave jazpersen
totally agree, I find this very moving as a result
ben. harper
Discussion Over.
d jazz - I'm stealing this.. I'll add your name.. 👊🏼💯
d jazz hes a master
The jam in the van audio engineer is needs a raise. The recordings coming out of this "van" are exceptional.
Thanks Mr. Clark for your music. No autotune. I hate that shit. Either you sing or you don’t.
The blues isn't a marketable sound it's a true spirit that gives a voice to those who dont know any other way to Express pain but through sound. Its therapy
..Don't care if you disagree.... just listen
Rajah. Truth. Bless.
You are correct. Blues isn't marketable. Nobody is pushing that shit. Nobody can sell rock and roll these days. As much as it may be a bullshit argument, I'm holding on to Neil's faith and fortitude. Nothing can kill rock and roll. If one guy hears a tune and gets turned on, thats rock and roll.
I’ve been waiting for this kid to come along for 30 years now, welcome home son and good luck. Now go do it !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
CZcams: You cannot put advertising in the fuckin' solo
Agreed!!! Ughhhhhh
It's called Adblock.
If you're on phone, CZcams Vanced. If you're on an Apple device, reconsider your purchasing choices and get something you actually have control over.
So agreed right in the middle wtf?
Oh man. Wtf is an ad doing in this genius performance. Fu youbube
Fuck youtube I'm ready to move somewhere else online 😂
It's a rare player who can be that lyrical, raw, 'out of control' sounding, and still be making it feel good on the spot. Love everything about it.
oh, and the band is fucking awesome
Every day every might I can hear the train going down the tracks and sometimes it is almost quite for a minute and I can hear the highway , I think of another place I lived and there was lumber mill the saw blade all day all night and the trains .
This is all that combined and the tracks or headed off in to outer space , I don't belong in this town anymore more than the last .
I love the way they play how I feels .
Wow, what a stellar and riveting performance...Gary’s guitar prowess literally brought me to tears...and his beautifully soulful voice is powerfully majestic...thank you Gary Clark Jr. for sharing this video...
Just listening to this song makes me feel like I'm cool.
That guitar was flaming!!! Jimmy lives on through the souls of artist like this man..
He's so good. Not even that technical but knows how to make simple things great.
Jimi*
The Haters keep hatin and Gary keeps making BAD ASS MUSIC!!!
Quiet Friday afternoon, hot coffee, Patchouli incense and candles burning, some good ganja, THIS, and I'm feelin' good!
Superb recording and audio that accentuates all of these magnificent band members and of course the guitar master himself Gary Clark Jr! 🙏
I'm addicted!! I swear it sounds like he's got that guitar talking in tongues, the best I've heard in years
w warn GCJ can make a guitar gently weeps Or can make it tell a story ....cry and sing .... you gotta be able to feel the music as it’s happening to be able to do that
Damn straight. This dude is awesome! I listen to this song over and over. He got some other good ones too! He down with it
eveery time a hear Gary saing "this is jam in the van" a get gosebumps!!
Seriously CZcams, if you want someone to absolutely hate whatever product you’re hawking, put it’s ad right in the middle of a song video. That’ll do it every time.
fuck Gary... you blew my mind...More talent than the whole top 40 put together
Yessss
I found Gary Clark Jr. by sheer accident. Saw a movie called Chef in which the characters stop their food truck in Texas and GCJ and band was playing at a restaurant/venue. I was stunned. Fantastic talent!
Sameeee
Good jams
Thats all man
Good job guys. Keep going.
To everyone talking shit, get off social media it’s making you sick. You forgot how to just appreciate and enjoy another human.
From like 7:30-10, GCJr. was in another fucking galaxy! I don't even have words for playing like that. It's inspired; it's pure energy; it's otherwordldly. Everyone who saw that happen, man.. be grateful. Not everyone gets to see someone just take that step, it's like Peter stepping out of the boat... for a brief moment, God calls, and something in us answers. I believe that music can be a way we experience the same thing. That was pure soul being poured out right there. Respect.
Today he is my favorite guitar player... after RIP JH
Gary Clark Jr, is raw, but I love it! Then he and that bad a"* band of his in a van. At 65 years old and retired music educator, rocks me❤
My son who's 9 try to hide his soul when this came on and played for while... I asked him if he felt this tingle in him, if it was a never before felt " something "..
Told my yeah with a shy smile and head nod hahaha
Told him it was okay feel that and let it known.. Such soul this has, I can't really describe the feeling
I just witnessed a man's soul being exorcised from his body through a guitar
After scrolling through the comments I've learned that the Ego is a hell of a drug.
gary is freakin awesome
SRV is better...and so is Jimi Hendrix. Ill throw Buckethead in their, although he's more technical and less emotional hehe
Testify....I couldn't agree more Marvin.
Sad aint it? Hateful trolls. Lol
Actually its 'letting go of the ego' that's a hell of a drug
The thing I like most about Gary Clark jr is that in 30 years we will still be talking about Gary Clark jr
DON'T ASSUME I'M A RASCIST BUT I AM A SOUTH AFRICAN;THERE ARE ABSOLUTELY NO BLACK ROCK MUSICIANS HERE.SOMETIMES I ASSUME AMERICA IS ALL RAP.I WILL NEED TO OPEN MY EYES TO WHAT YOU HAVE THERE .YOU COULD SAY THIS VIDEO OPENED A GATE FOR ME TO SOMETHING I WAS IGNORANT OF.THANK YOU GARY CLARK JR.!
I listen to just about everything, except today’s country music. Like a previous post said, blues don’t require technical playing but the trick is transmitting feeling and that, ladies and gentlemen, is the blues and my man right here got it. The band ties it together also, they are one and it shows. 💯
I can't believe how many are talking bad about this performance. What do you want? Perfection? They are human beings. This is a great tune and Gary is an amazing musician. The rest of the guys play well too. Amazing band. Great performance.
They r playin man. Dour thing Gary. Would kill for this band
+Cristian Mojica right man!
Cristian Mojica they want boring prog Rock scales going back and forth. Weeee 👎
This is the live Jam in the Van...Love it! Made me smile and took me back to a time!
Cristian Mojica no disrespect but Stevie Ray Jimi Hendrix cream Fast is not always hitting the heart .who feels it knows it .i fully agree.respect the man.
A Sunday in NJ drinking Jamaican rum smoking a cigar listening to a great song. PERFECT
again, the funkiest 10 minutes of my life. tyvm to jam in the van, zapata and mr gcjr.
Difference is change and change is the difference, music is style and style is music, Love the change, love the style, love the music. Everyone is different. Don't knock it just play along. :)
Old school stuff here.....We need to own this. The over produced and polished stuff is not what we ever really hear live...This is the the real shit...damn...
I Second That!!!!
Hells yeah brother!!👍🏼
the imagery of the train coming is unbelievably perfect at the end .WOW looks exactly like his dad.
Just a perfect. Peice
Really a great guitar rip amazing artist in a van 😮jam in a van
String stretching at its best 😮😮😮
I happened upon Gary Clark Jr. while day drinking at Coachella in 2016. Best day of my musical memory life.
This is just :') dang Gary Clarke Jr. words can't describe man. u just one of a kind, a future legend!
Eric Clapton said the future of the blues will come through Gary Clark Jr. I think he would know a good player if he say one don't cha think.
that in itself is good enough for me .. clapton is the shit
fuck Eric Clapton
Possibly, what he meant was that the tradition of blues music will be played by people such as, but not limited too, GC jr. I don't think Clapton means that HE is the future of blues music but maybe one person who will act in its behalf. PS. I hate Gary Clarks music and in no way or form do I think its representative of what modern blues sounds like
i like clapton, but don't consider him to be some kinda bad ass blues player. Muddy Waters on the other hand....
John Creach just cause you don't consider him as such doesn't mean he isn't
You naysayers are full of it. I love a good shredder, but Gary is a BLUES SOUL MAESTRO! I was never a big SRV guy, but Gary? I am feeling this. He makes me feel the emotions. Why do you techno-trolls insist on not understanding this fact?! Go Gary, go..GO!
I was sitting here...missing my friend more than my heart could bare. And this song popped onto my feed... We used to send each other songs we would find and love.never heard of this guy...but there's a huge part of me that feels. Maybe he wanted me to hear this song...
jillian jones I’m missing a friend too. Any suggestions on other songs to listen to?
@@ja4120 acoustic missing you by incubus- Jesse reyez just dropped a new album. Almost every song makes me think of my friend! Think the one that got me the most is grateful deads "he's gone" id start there ❤ music soothes the soul. Hope u heal well
jillian jones thank you, I hope you do too.
When I was a boy, I hated the riffs between the vocals. Now I can't get enough. Holy shit, I can't get enough of this
Finally, music with a soul.
Finally? Where the fuck have you been?
Oh, there is plenty...
He Rocks It!!!
This one of the best masterpiece of all time.
Wow! Wow! Wow! Brilliant.
I can't believe that guitar stays in tune after he bends the strings like halfway across the fretboard. He gets awesome tone with that SG too.
there is plenty of time to rock out, WHEN YOUR JAMMIN IN A VAN, DOWN BY THE RIVER!!!
Oh Gary Gary Gary. Man oh man.
Wow.558 people gave this a thumbs down. I really really wish someday you understand why this is a great performance. I apologize if any of you are deaf or mentally challenged. Hey, music is just variations in air pressure, right? Oh, you listened to this on your phone? Yeah, that is the best way to listen to a live performance right everyone else?!! Damn I'm stupid!!
Love this guy! Heavy groove, scorching licks, played with feeling. I could listen to him all day long. Keep it coming, Gary, keep it coming!
One evening when Gary Clark Jr was a teen he was with a girl and they were, of course, listening to some classic blues as they were sitting on the couch. Things started to heat up with some kissing and touching. The girl was getting into things as the guitar player started in on his solo. Her breathing was faster and she was squirming as Gary moved to second base. The guitar cried out as the girl started to make noises of her own. Gary rounded third and was about to slide into home base when.... The guitar solo ended and the mood was broken. The girl got self conscious and made an excuse to head home... the solo was too short. Gary swore in his heart that if he ever made it big he would NEVER let that happen to anyone listening to his music. And I want to say: Thank you Gary, thank you for giving us these long ass sweet love making solos that don't leave us blue balled.
Lmao Yes
I saw that 2
wtf?
LOL.... gold!
Classic!!!!
I listen to this song once. A week
Are people whining about this? Really? DUDE is on FIRE.
Respect for Gary Clark jr and the jam van. Saw this dude for first time at the x-games austin and the talent is undeniable
Truly refreshing
The definitive version of this song, outshines everything else. It's slower than on the album, gaining weight. And Gary sings like he means every word, he is in the zone. This is the blues, like Lightning Hopkins, Son House, Mississippi Fred McDowell, Blind Willie Johnson played it before him. This song is homage to all before. Thanks for capturing it, love this version, soundtrack of my life.
That strat the homie with the hat is playing is fucking beautiful
Damn. Gary Clark Jr. played the hell out of that guitar. Fuck comparing him to anybody else but himself. That young man got skills. Period.
Truth: Most critics do not have a musical bone in they're bodies.
Their*
I'm very musical by the way.
U ARE LAME!!!!
I would wonder then if you are a critic?
If by that you mean that YOU don’t like criticism of Gary Clark Jr then ok.
jimi trower 😯
You think a lot of music theory shit is musical, its privilege punks shootin mouth off music is structured true but nobody can define the abstract of mind.He stays at 4-5 note pentatonic scale using BB box musical enough fuh ya? TRUTH yeah OK? Sunglasses necessary inside van? And the 60s' just fuckin won't lay down, suicide poster nice touch .😯
Drummer just sitting out the back, feeding off the lead players... sublime 👌
I still come back to watch this and I appreciate it more and more every single time !!!! 🔥🔥🔥🔥
First time I heard this ... I cried because of the emotional content.
Lonesome Crow Yeah, I got a lil' bit teary eyed listening to this.
You sure as hell aren't alone lol. Me too Lonesome Crow. First heard this song live with Gary playing 10 feet from me and I couldnt help it lol.
Dude i cant help it every damn time
Bit late to the party when it comes to liking this band, but I've only just been made aware of them via this song. Blown away by their virtuosity and authentically cool vibe. They are the real deal.
Rock on Gary to you and the guys straight up bad to the Bone
Thank you for uploading this to tidal guys!
I think i'm eventually gonna add half a million views to this video all on my own through the course of my life time
I think what you all saying that this is average and all of you going into detail needs to kinda chill.
This is about soul, passion and the pure want to create, play and just enjoy life through the absolute translation of their souls through their instruments. I am a drummer of 14 years and I am 21 now. I WISH I COULD'VE DONE THIS.
I appreciate the soul. There will always be better then even the best.
Guarantee you that NONE of those who turn thumbs down on this performance can play Guitar, Bass or Drums as well as these guys. If they are good enough for Clapton's Crossroads, they are good enough for me.
God you gave me life now show me how to live
"I don't believe in competition
Ain't nobody else like me around
I don't need your imposition
It ain't that hard to figure it out"
Whoa. My ears just came. This van sure does get some funkin' sweet talent inside of it's doors!
Feels good to this ole hippie...💜💙💜😁✌😁💜💙
6 years later here I am living this life I can't live no mooooooore. *blues screech and A FUCKING ADDDDDDDDDDDDDD
😂
SO...MUCH...SOUL...
That SG sounds awesome. Great performance by GCJ.
Props to the band members who were willing to hunch over a little in the back so drummer could sit up front and have plenty of headroom to really stretch out and turn his jam loose.
If any guitarist needs an inspiration...look no further than Gary Clark, Jr!! He's absolutely amazing!
To all the people who said there's better blues out there: I got what I love out of this performance. To me, its my favorite dish on the menu right now. That's what its all about…the feeling. +Django Reinhardt
I swear you only see this kind of comment section on guitar vids, the guitar community is so full of itself and full of egotistical douches who try to one up each other and that's lame man..... in the drum community it doesn't matter your skill level, you got a love for music we gunna hold each other up.
As a guitarist, I have to agree. I've been digging non-standard guitarists so much lately because of all the fucking shitty repetitive bullshit. All guitarists have influences, but I'm so sick of "Perfect" playing.
I do believe you have to be a bit of an egotist to play guitar. More often than not the lead guitarist is also the front man of the band, and it's hard to have the confidence to do that role without having some ego of your own. Drum players OTOH are happy to chill out and tie the band together.
Then you get keyboardists like me who are geeks and flunkeys **sigh**
totally agree
Diax1324 I can see where you're coming from, good insight.
And thats whats up. THE baddest. True raw sh*t. Period. Thats it and thats all. Nothing more to say.
A BIG
Double You O Double You!!!
He's got an awesome voice and a unique guitar sound--just enjoy folks.
Mind blown! WTF DID I JUST WITNESS. ?
I know rite he's the truth
Infinity
my dad died and he loves this song
This guy…
It’s passion with a hint of Hendrix. He’s incredible to listen to, and unlike a lot of artists, he’s even better to watch. If you haven’t seen the mini-doc Gary and Eve where he talks about his formative music years, it enhances everything. Shoutout to Rohan for introducing me to this riveting artist.
Chef brought me here,love it!!!
Reminds me a bit of "hear my train a coming" anyone else ?
Second coming of JIMI HENDRIX, always put your soul into it Gary
In the process of buying tickets to see Guy in Portland ME for Nov1 2021 show. Psyched does not describe how I'm feeling. Yeah!
Love, love, love this. Love his voice and the calm energy in this song. Def. some talent here!!
he is FANTASTIC. I SAW HIM OPEN FOR THE ROLLING STONES AND HE KILLED IT.
He opened for the Stones? That's big time, and what a great warm up act for them to have. I bet part of his job was to get the crowd fired up, but not upstage the old boys either. :)
Gary is his own man and badass in his own right.
I’m definitely a fan now. Coming from the souf blues is n us our DNA it’s jst refreshing to see this yung brother play the fuk out that damn guitar!!!
GCJR is the man! Love his back up guitarist too - bad ass strat he has and good backing with his guitar chords
I love it when a musician can make an instrument SING. Gary Clark Jr, You did THAT BOI!!! 🥰😎😍
Incredible. Nuff said
