There’s something about the classic lines of all the bark river knives that I just get drawn too, you wouldn’t beast them like you would your ka-bar instead cherishing them like a gentleman’s timepiece that you will one day pass down when your grandson comes of age.

I really like Bark River even though they seem to have had some bad press. I gravitate towards White River and Guardian also for fixed blades with new powered steel.

I've dealt with New Graham a few times..they are great. I had an experience where they sent the wrong thing..they fixed it and upgraded me in a similar way..fantastic customer service.
    Love my Bark Rivers..great knives.

The best part of the whole transaction was dealing with NGK on the phone! I didn't ask for the steep discount , They offered the Kephart to me at the same price as my original item. Definitely using them in the future.
Bark River really makes a stellar knife , There are many more to get! Thank you for watching

@@knifevideochannel4657 My deal was I jumped on a Code 4 in XHP, but the one that came was serrated not PE, box was marked PE so it wasn't their fault, but I didn't want the serrations. They had no other xhp ones in stock, so I told them send me the Chaparral lw instead, and charge my card the extra 9 bucks price difference..he told me no worries, they would send the Chappie and no charge..they ate the price difference for my inconvenience, and with the new knife, they sent me a prepaid shipping label to return the Code4. Yes, that was arranged over the phone, and you are right..it was a pleasure to deal with him.
I look at BRK as the Spyderco of fixed blades, due to their use of exotic steels. In addition to their standard A2 or 3V, they have done knives in 4V, CPM154, M4, Cru-wear, Elmax, and even 1V..who the hell ever even heard of 1V? lol.not to mention the selection of handle materials. I have 3 Barkies so far, and although I keep telling myself I have enough knives to last me 5 lifetimes, I will no doubt be buying more of them in the future. They just make a great knife, and a good warranty with free lifetime spa service. They are pricey, but well worth the money imho.

@@timbo4374 I agree 100% about Bark River. I have my eye on the Fox River EXT and the Bravo 1 LT ramp less in Cruwear. My wife wants me to get a white/blk pinecone, Nice looking but not practical.
It's refreshing to experience good old fashion customer service while ACTUALLY talking to someone in person. My father and I used to own Auto parts and machine shops , That catered to specialized shops/customers. New Graham has my business for sure.

Thanks for the video. I'm leaning towards getting this Bark River Kephart.. instead of the BK62 Kephart. I like the bring on it also and it's a beautiful looking knife.

It's a great knife for sure with quality materials! Don't know if the extra cost of the Bark River (especially 3V) is worth it over the BK62 for function alone though. Have fun choosing and let me know your opinion of whatever you decide on! Thanks for watching

I have no experience with micarta. How is the quality compared to G10?

    • @knifevideochannel4657
      @knifevideochannel4657  Před 5 lety +2

Hi Craig, Thanks for watching! Polished Micarta like on this BR Kephart is very similar to G10 that Spyderco uses on the Taichung fixed blades. Nicely finished, No voids, and impervious to contamination. Bark River also sells matte micarta scaled knives that will stain from hand oils and other liquids/fluids.
Here's a good explanation of the difference between G10 and Micarta from Stuart Ackerman :
"Cloth / Canvas/ Cotton Micarta is made using a phenolic resin, which cures under heat and pressure...layers of cloth saturated in the resin, and pressed in a mold and heated...
Paper Micarta uses the same method, but uses paper instead of a cloth material..
G10 is glass fibres and epoxy resin in pressure plates, and the epoxy cures with its own heat and cure time...The colours are dependant on the glass fibre colours and the resin colours"

@@knifevideochannel4657 Okay, thank you... that's 0.63 and 0.56". Some of the earlier batches had handles which were over 0.75". In a 2020 Kephart 5 video Mike Stewart says that "on the last ones, the handles were pretty thick, and people were saying they would like it back to the old dimension. We've done that: These are the nice thinner dimension."
