      Mike Hermes I am trying to create a light post in maya and then import it into unity. What texture maps would you recommend for a light post?

    • @MHTutorials3D

      It all depends on where you are going to use it

    thx Mike for ur videos . wanted to ask if u could kindly extend a bit this topic and show how we actually apply those maps ,at least some ,especially for characters models and whats the best way to create them as well . also maybe some important settings and so on . thanks again . really helpful

      Nikolai, I don't do characters but I have done videos on how to apply Normal maps, Bump maps, Displacement maps, Specular Maps, Height maps, AO maps etc. Have you watched my videos ?

  • @BobanSurbek-grifgraf
    @BobanSurbek-grifgraf Před 7 lety

    Ok questions time.
    Please Mike if you can kindly answer these
    1. Lets say if I use Arnold standard shader and I place color map under color, Where do I place normal map? Under bump?
    2. What is a difference between Specular and Reflection tabs inside the arnold shader in Maya.
    3. What are the maps we can place within Refraction Tab inside the arnold shader in Maya.

    • @MHTutorials3D
      @MHTutorials3D  Před 7 lety

      1. Yes, and change Bump to Tangent Normal 2. Specular is like a round spot of light on a shiny surface and reflection is overall reflection like on metal 3. I have never use that but refraction is penetration of light through the material and light breaking as a result ( Refraction Index ) Reason being that I typically do not use Arnold but mental Ray, VRay of Renderman

      @MHTutorials3D  Před 10 měsíci +1

      I will give you the benefit of the doubt and assume you are not trolling me. ALL textures are 2D...... Textures used on 3D models are also 2D

    Nice video mike, I would love a UV tutorial on some more complicated objects than your other uv tutorials, like a gun etc. It would really help a lot.

    • @MHTutorials3D
      @MHTutorials3D  Před 7 lety

      I understand but that is usually very time consuming and that is why I typically avoid it

    • @ZacNotZachary
      @ZacNotZachary Před 7 lety

      Yes, but it is also very difficult to be able to do without the knowledge, seeing how important UV'ing is.

    • @MHTutorials3D
      @MHTutorials3D  Před 7 lety

      I did some videos on UVing more complex objects. Did they help ?

    • @ZacNotZachary
      @ZacNotZachary Před 7 lety +2

      Yes definitely, I've spent hours watching tutorials on it (yours were the most helpful :) ) however it seems to vary quite a bit depending on the object. For example I have multiple projects just sitting on my hard drive because I can't bring myself to UV it. If there was a more general tutorial on seams, sewing on more complex projects im sure i would be able to get it. Regardless great video as always and thanks for the fast response.

      Not really, some game engines don´t even give you a choice.

    actually i want to know difference in what cases Texture Map work together like plug in layer on top on the another layer in work process in Photoshop because i was looking a Tutorial in who AO map, Cavity map was just plug on top on the Color Map layer with special layer mode and then all layers was given Flaten Layers command and then save like TGA file and plug in Maya in Color channel.
    This is just one cases.
    But my question is : there is a way Cavity for example or AO Map to work to be plug in one difference channel in Maya or Marmoset or Unity and if it have such channel what is his name in the difference programs?
    Because i was watch your tutorial for Marmoset : czcams.com/video/rExUxlklCY4/video.html
    in there you plug AO to difference channel. Not like first examples for i talking about when lector just plug on top on the Color texture another Layer with Caviti map and Ao map and then flatten i one layer like one Color Texture and plug in Color Channel i Maya.
    And what's the better way to use them --- plug into separate channels or as add-ons to the color texture or both?
    explained quite complicated, very stretched but nevertheless I hope you understand my question correctly.

    • @MHTutorials3D

      When working on a still render image you can overlay the AO, When working on a game prop, obviously not
