I'm glad he's finally able to talk about his pain and loss of a friend that was more like a dearly loved brother. That pain combined with his physical illness has tortured him all these years. But I understand the treatment he's receiving in Canada seems to be working, albeit a slow and likely long process. The outro that begins this version was not in the original and completed version of Su!c!de. But supposedly after an interview with Knox Hill, Knox suggested he should incorporate it into the song. And the result was brilliant, gut wrenching and most certainly cathartic. I am also incredibly thankful to Ren for the decision to release a song he believed would be banned on day one. Instead he touched so many (myself included) who have been in that horrific mindset, and acted on it. Some of us were lucky and failed. But for those who weren't, they are daily reminders and with us always in our hearts. I never knew Ren's Joe, but many of us have at least one Joe, in ours hearts and minds and soul. And there they will remain, until we meet again. 💜
I saw the interview with Knox, and Ren Talking about it in another interview if I recall correctly. Knox didn't suggest anything, they got to talk about Joe and Ren was inspired to go back and write that part, the song was done ready to go out, production on it was finished. And he went back and added that.

I know the song was already recorded and "finished." But Ren did go back and add it after their conversation. I've heard several content creators say they "heard" the story but I suppose it actually could have been discussed off mic. I'm not certain why Ren added it but the timing is interesting.
Just a clarification on the blaming himself (I think it was from the Knox interview) he intellectually knows there was no way he would have gotten there in time based on when Joe's phone went offline after Rens friend called him saying Joe was about to jump but emotionally he still feels blame

Performing it in a new way, with a newly written bridge and referring to Freckled Angels while adding to and changing it... once again, Ren breaks the unwritten rules and does something profoundly beautiful. Freckled Angel is a song on his Freckled Angel CD. Written and performed Live at Joe's "funeral". From 13yrs ago. Its available to react to I believe. Give the entire CD a listen. It was shortly after that Ren's illness hit him hard and as we know went misdiagnosed for about 7yrs. In that time it ravaged him physically and the drugs doctors gave him, thinking it was all in his imagination led to him mentally going off the deep end. Long harsh story that is still not over. He is currently in Calgary, Canada. Undergoing treatments 5 days a week in hospital there. What they thought would take a handful of months has grown to many more, as they find more physical damage caused by the Lyme Disease bactria that made him its home for well over 10yrs now.

If I were to guess why Suic*de and For Joe are separate tracks, I think the former song was initially written in response to the CNN piece attacking Hi Ren - I think it was an act of artistic self-expression and defiance. It made sense that he added the outro in honor of Joe, but he probably didn’t want that tribute to only be associated with the Suic*de piece, and he also probably didn’t want it buried by CZcams because the the song title. Bringing that piece of music into a new composition and tying it together with Freckled Angels (the tribute he wrote soon after Joe’s death) made perfect sense. The new section in the middle crediting Joe for his strength made the whole thing more life-affirming and probably more a comfort to Joe’s friends and family. I hope that, after his visit back to Wales, the donations to the rescue volunteers and Joe’s family, and the writing of this song, he is better able to move forward with kindness towards himself.

Ren's best friend, Joe Hughes, committed suicide on the 27th of December, 2010 by jumping off the Menai Bridge, a large suspension bridge connecting the mainland to the Isle of Anglesey where Ren and Joe lived. Ren alluded to it in one of his songs, stating that he lost his best friend before he was 25. The pain of this loss is evident in a few of his songs. "How to Be Me," "Freckled Angels," "Su!cIde," and this latest release, are specifically dedicated to Joe. Ren recently posted some background on his relationship with Joe and the tragic suicide. Ren explained that he got a call from his friend Ella around 3 am saying that Joe was on the Menai Bridge, He’d been on the phone with her in tears saying goodbye. He told her to tell everyone he loved them. Ren went out on foot attempting to get to Joe while trying to reach him on the phone. Just minutes before Ren got to the bridge, his friend's cell phone went out of service. The Coast Guard started a search to no avail. Ren, friends, and volunteers unsuccessfully searched the shoreline for ten days; Joe’s body was never recovered.
Ren’s song "Su!cIde" gutted me, and I was not able to watch or listen to it again until now. I have not even been able to watch a single reaction to it. It was a sad, haunting, gut-wrenching tribute. My best friend took his life 38 years ago. However, after listening to "To Joe" several times, I came to the realization that as sad and emotional as this song is, it has had a healing effect on me and has given me a sense of closure. Even the lyrics that "gutted" me in "Su!cIde" impacted me differently this time around. Anthony Ray (@AnthonyRay) said after reacting to this performance (I am paraphrasing) that he felt that after all these years, Ren seems to have found a measure of acceptance regarding the loss of his best friend. Anthony's comment suddenly made me aware of the song's impact on me, and I am actually able to watch or listen to "Su!cIde" again. Although I will probably not watch any reactions to it, as I consider this song to be much too personal, and watching someone else's grief would only compound my pain. Thomas Goldschmidt (@thomasgoldschmidt298) remarked, "For Joe" is a continuation of "Su!cIde," displaying the five stages of grief, adding acceptance to the end of his last song…..This song and the sobbing hug he received from Joe's mom after showing the video bring closure to all involved! Ren's best friend, Joe Hughes, committed suicide on the 27th of December, 2010 by jumping off the Menai Bridge, a large suspension bridge connecting the mainland to the Isle of Anglesey where Ren and Joe lived. Ren alluded to it in one of his songs, stating that he lost his best friend before he was 25. The pain of this loss is evident in a few of his songs. "How to Be Me," "Freckled Angels," "Su!cIde," and this latest release, are specifically dedicated to Joe.
Ren recently posted some background on his relationship with Joe and the tragic suicide. Ren explained that he got a call from his friend Ella around 3 am saying that Joe was on the Menai Bridge, He’d been on the phone with her in tears saying goodbye. He told her to tell everyone he loved them. Ren went out on foot attempting to get to Joe while trying to reach him on the phone. Just minutes before Ren got to the bridge, his friend's cell phone went out of service. The Coast Guard started a search to no avail. Ren, friends, and volunteers unsuccessfully searched the shoreline for ten days; Joe’s body was never recovered.

Ren’s song "Su!cIde" gutted me, and I was not able to watch or listen to it again until now. I have not even been able to watch a single reaction to it. It was a sad, haunting, gut-wrenching tribute. My best friend took his life 38 years ago. However, after listening to "To Joe" several times, I came to the realization that as sad and emotional as this song is, it has had a healing effect on me and has given me a sense of closure. Even the lyrics that "gutted" me in "Su!cIde" impacted me differently this time around.
Anthony Ray (@AnthonyRay) said after reacting to this performance (I am paraphrasing) that he felt that after all these years, Ren seems to have found a measure of acceptance regarding the loss of his best friend. Anthony's comment suddenly made me aware of the song's impact on me, and I am actually able to watch or listen to "Su!cIde" again. Although I will probably not watch any reactions to it, as I consider this song to be much too personal, and watching someone else's grief would only compound my pain.
Thomas Goldschmidt (@thomasgoldschmidt298) remarked, "For Joe" is a continuation of "Su!cIde," displaying the five stages of grief, adding acceptance to the end of his last song…..This song and the sobbing hug he received from Joe's mom after showing the video bring closure to all involved!
I think ending "To Joe" with lines from "Freckles Angels" left me with a more optimistic outlook. It is as if Ren is trying to tell us that even though some of our loved ones are physically gone from our life, their memory continues to live in and through us. I think that is why I got a sense of closure and peace.

"Double Dutch" is used in the UK instead of saying "nonsense" or "gibberish". Essentially something that cannot be understood.
He has also said that he's had a lot of therapy over this and realuzes he is not to blame. Bu those pesky feelings.. .

If you watch the Knox interview Ren intellectually and logically knows there wasn’t anything he could have done that night but emotionally is another thing… the empty cup.
But notice there is a bottle of light (lights) to fill the empty cup.
The previous produced video was dark and filled with pain and frustration. This starts with that pain but continues with what Joe and all his actions has taught and given Ren. That bottle of light to fill the empty cup. Not only a crafted masterpiece but preformed extremely well with the help from Sam.
