I love steve, because he always try to satisfy the fans..everyone was wishing to have a live version of this amazing, marvellous song..and so he did it..very nice version :)
hello Ripples blue girl... coming every size... It s nice to find another comment from you ... Many too many is a song that turn me back in to a year so difficult to me with my mother , and so coincidently I had only the album AND THEN ... I left home with it and listen about 8 months with a feeling that I ll never forget.. It is inside my soul forever ...and so many too many !
1970’s. I was a youngster stuck at home with chickenpox and couldn’t sleep. At about 1:30 a.m. this song played on the radio and I was mesmerized. Still a fan 45 years later!
This is the most beautifully crafted short song from the classic Genesis era. It's not surprising that Tony Banks said that he really wanted to play either this song or Many Too Many on the Genesis tour a couple of years ago. Instead, they chose Ripples, which ain't bad either.
raelraven2, I agree with you that this song is beautifully crafted, and would love to have heard Genesis play this during their 2007 Tour. Fast forward 10 years now, and this song has even more significance for me. You see, I met someone very special 10 years ago, on this exact same date, August 22, 2009. Each year on this date, I like to come back and visit this video posting, and remember how it all started. It started right here. To my dearest friend, raelraven2 - thank you for being my friend, and thank you for all of the memories :) Love your Ripplesbluegirl
Wow, what a nice surprise to find this video of Steve Hackett performing what was quite possibly his best Genesis-era composition! This is a well-done rendition. Hackett and the band are right on top of it. The drummer does a find job, but his voice is not in the same league as Phil Collins, but of course, not many are! Thanks for posting. The first, only, and best non-Genesis rendition. You Tube is such a treat.
32 years later and still a pretty accurate social commentary not too mention a very beautiful song. Loved it then and still love it today. Thanks Steve
my comment is only to tell you that TIME TABLE is a song that I love and I always try to explain myself why is never named by fans , or only a few of us, like a real masterpiece, with a kindness , coloured tunes and an indescriptible poetical lyrics taken by a misterious land... CONGRATULATIONS FOR YOUR NAME...
bravo steve!!!! this is the first time that I ear this song performed on live by a genesis' member (or ex- member indeed) from the begining to the end. Awesome!!
Thanks for posting. One of my earlier Genesis faves. Favorite lyric: "If there's one thing I hate, It's staying up late, To watch some debate, On some nation's fate."
Not so much this one but 'Ripples' and 'Your own special way' have me in rivers of tears at times...Ive been a fan for 32 years and they still move me. :)

That was WONDERFUL! Saw Steve solo back in '94 & it was greatBut THis! WOW would have loved to have been in the audiance. The other Lads og Genesis should take note ! When is Peter G. gonna stop being a prima donna & give us fans an original Genesis line up tour. We've all bought the solo albums ...Don't us fans deserve a tour? lol....80)
@jcoleman200743 Yes. I was SHOCKED that Genesis never played this amazing song during the Wind & Wuthering tour in 1977. Hey, Steve Hackett played with the band RENAISSANCE here in New York yesterday. WOW. Annie Haslams voice, and Steve's guitar. Beautiful.
The only Hackett/Collins-Collaboration..and WHAT one.. Unique in the Genesis catalogue. This song is home for all my puberty moods back then and all my friends who got infected wheter they liked genesis or not.
Please note if you love this song then you can see the entire 'Wind & Wuthering' and 'Trick of the Tail' albums performed live for the first time ever by G2 Genesis when they play Birkenhead Pacific Arts Centre on 14th March 2009!
good! that s a good answer to that "rare" comments about our Phil... he can make music from nothing and so he have all the wright to make all kind of music he wants... Genesis is a band that will live in all his ways of make music, and what is the problem about pop if is the best of Pop? long life to Phil! Rock and Pop Icon !
I agree that Ripples is a beautiful song, and I thought they did a nice job with it in 2007. I count it as one of the highlights of the concert. Actually, my biggest regret is that I couldn't resist checking the web for the setlist before going to the show. It would have been a wonderful surprise to hear them play Ripples if I didn't know about it in advance.
@badrogue66 I agree completely. People are always talking about either the Gabriels- or the Collins-era of the band. But for me the real Genesis started when Hackett arrived for Nursery Cryme, and ended after the Wind And Wuthering album, when he quit the band (although I do enjoy parts of ...And Then There Were Three...). Blood On The Rooftops is my alltime favourtie song, of any artist. A great accoustic intro, great singing by Collins, and the mood set by Banks/Rutherford is simply amazing.
past is past... we can have in our heart Genesis , so they will be inmortals , and in honour of truth it s Steve that didn t accept return to Genesis, but I believe in magic and miracles can do Genesis revival! do mental power with all us...Genesians of all the times!
all the negatives comments about our drummer and musician , , Phil , are for me a kind of war against a man who had the heart and the power to bring all fans such a big time to have Genesis living and touring... why always compare Phil with Hackett, Phil with Peter ... why don t think all of them are our lovely angels that made possible a legendary BAND? stop that really stupid war.. it s just wasted time... go to sing the songs each one love ! only Phil sings playing drum in that way!
Listen this version of Blood of the rootfots from "Bad Dreams" and then tell me. It's a live cover that include Steve Hackett's comment. v=JZU3T-CSbHQ I love this song. Bye people!
Oh my god Steve. You could do amazing things with Genesis. Please go back and create some more magic. Please take your talent and passion back to the band I love so much and tour so I can see it as I was too young to see it the first time around. PLEASE!!!!!
@badrogue66 No argument about Hackett's guitar genius. But Genesis just went a different way after he left - I love W&W and ToTT, but (for example) Duke and Genesis have equally good moments, just in a different vein. The band's strengths changed and thus so did the sound.
Hackett is a guitar genius, say what you want about the group after Gabriel left, but in my humble opinion, they really went downhill after Steve left, ToTT and Wind and Wuthering are 2 of my favorite Genesis albums. Whatever he brought to the table they certainly werent able to replace thats for sure.
According to Tony Banks: "this is one my favourite songs which we regrettably never played live."
Thanks for this beauty.
Steve did..
Couldnt do it because Steve wasnt with them...
Such a beautifully romantic song. One of Steve's masterpieces. I'd love to hear Peter Gabriel sing this one.
I love steve, because he always try to satisfy the fans..everyone was wishing to have a live version of this amazing, marvellous song..and so he did it..very nice version :)
This song is a masterpiece and has historical / political / social value. A gem. I would like to see a lot of artist's do this piece.
Politics fracture and cause hurt
Such a great song and album that never got its due….Pre Pop Genesis is the stuff that makes the heart soar……..
Off the "Wind and Wuthering" album! The whole album is a masterpiece!
Pre Peter Gabriel leaving Genesis is the stuff that makes the heart soar. Wind and Wuthering is the only good album they made after Pete left.

Do not agree with you. What about its predecessor? 🙂
And above all - time changes. 😉
Wonderful song, wonderful interpretation.... 👍🎶🌞

Such a great song. AND a masterfull interpretation. Steve is/was the sound of Genesis.

goosebumps... one can only imagine the memories going on inside steve hackett's mind when moving his lips to the music...
This is the most beautifully crafted short song from the classic Genesis era. It's not surprising that Tony Banks said that he really wanted to play either this song or Many Too Many on the Genesis tour a couple of years ago. Instead, they chose Ripples, which ain't bad either.

Of Genesis masterpieces, I sometimes think this one takes the cake.
Perfect beautiful music 👌🏻❤️
Bravissimo comunque il cantante del gruppo del grandissimo Hackett . Chapeau 👏👏👏
Hackett and Tony together were a awesome force! I loved this sung by the Phil beautiful voice

Favorite lyric:
"If there's one thing I hate,
It's staying up late,
To watch some debate,
On some nation's fate."
The backing band apparently is:
Roger King (keyboards)
Rob Townsend (woodwinds)
Terry Gregory (bass)
Gary OToole (drums, percussion & vocals)

Hackett's post-Gabriel Genesis piece. This gave me chills. Steve's drummer handles it well, too.
i rented this DVD and i must say THIS IS A GREAT SONG! i feel kind of bad that i had not heard this song before.
One of the best musical composition of Steve and Genesis.... If there is the only one...
Best tour I saw Hackett on. This band was just fab. Great drummer.
Ti amo.
wot a great song....
one of my favorite Genesis tunes.
thanks!
I agree with you, I was SO lucky to see them live.>WOW
Not so much this one but 'Ripples' and 'Your own special way' have me in rivers of tears at times...Ive been a fan for 32 years and they still move me. :)
steve is the soul.. of genesis MUSIC... GREAT RETURN WHIT ... THE OTHER (MIKE TONY AND PHIL .. )
Great song off a great album. Very Good. Thanks.
Still speechless after 32 years !!
Saw this song live in 2009 in leamington spa, magic
Breathtaking! One of his finest moments as a songwriter with Genesis...
Genesis did not play this as far as I know live in 1977. Shame.
i saw them live doing this not long ago, it was fabulous.
Hackett's a genius

Absolutely brilliant ...
I love time table! But do you know the B-side "Evidence of Autumn"? Is Great!
Actually, Hackett wrote the intro and the verses. Phil wrote the chorus...words and music. Steve liked what Phil wrote, so he put it in with his song.

AWESOME
Isn’t Gary’s voice just incredible?
Just beautiful...
oh yes! only Phil own the voice and the emotion to Blood ...and in fact Hackett and him wrote the song...
This is one beautiful song
this is amazing
yoy know, the more I listen to it I think it's better then 30 odd years ago.
lol, thats great, love it
I like justice...Phil and Steve wrote BLOOD ,,,that s the true , so...I would give all my blood to PHIL when he sings ...blood on the rooftops....

Sad that Genesis never played this live.
@badrogue66 I wholeheartedly agree. After SH left they became a pop band. A good one, granted, but nothing more.
Hackett and Collins
wow.
id rather listen to this than any pumping amped guitar solo long live steve!!!
@Jonsumo Perhaps it should be retitled "Blood in the fiber optics". At least here in the States. Do love the song though.
This piece is by Hackett. Others put a little
