Lion gets head stuck in feeding barrel at zoo

- To keep feeding time interesting, the Dierenrijk Zoo in the Netherlands puts meat inside of a barrel as a way to help stimulate the three young lions. Unfortunately one of them experienced a bit of bad luck during this instance after getting the barrel stuck right on his head! Luckily a zookeeper eventually managed to cut it off, with no harm done.

Obviously a keeper had to take it off his head, but you can’t walk into a lion enclosure full of hungry lions. They’d have to use a tranquilizer on him which takes a few minutes to work. Yea, someone made that hole too small I’ll agree on that one. Unfortunately though, sometimes animals being in captivity is necessary to save the species from... ourselves. And if they’re raised in captivity they won’t know how to hunt, a human is an easy snack, yes, but a zebra can kill a lion with a good kick to the head. Unfortunate, but true. I’m for and against animals being in captivity, no side is properly right. Animals deserve to be wild as they are made to be wild, but the northern white rhinos are a good example to why some species should be in captivity as there are only two of them left due to poaching. People suck, I know.

How in the world do you expect someone to help him? Do you want someone to randomly enter the cage and pull it out? They would have to get the other 2 lions out and then anesthetize the other one, and then finally take it out. Don't expect them to help him in just 2 minutes

Finally a comment that isn’t calling it sad.
Yes, animals in captivity isn’t a good thing but many would be hunted to extinction if they weren’t in captivity. Also, if they’re raised in captivity they won’t know how to hunt. It’s unfortunate, but true. Also, zoo keepers can’t just take the barrel of the head of a hungry lion, they’d have to use a tranquilizer on him which takes a few minutes before it kicks in.

What genius thought cutting a hole in the side of a barrel which is not bigger than a lions head and giving it to lions would be a good idea?

It was a good thing they put extra holes in that barrel it could have been worse.
if someone was brave, they could have went in and either ran a rope through the barrel so the lion could pull backwards and extract himself, or they could have had two men grab the barrel and hold it while the lion pulls his head out. If I was in charge, I would have assigned the person responsible for introducing this barrel into the cage to go in and do the job. If they refused, I would throw them in the cage anyway and told them they could come out either when the barrel was off or they needed to go to the emergency room.

If the lion had had something bad happen to him in the wild, like putting his head in a bee's nest, no one would have helped him and we wouldn't even have known about it. In this case, the lion was lucky.
