    Thank you! I still have the 301 I learned to sew on that belonged to my mom. I have wanted to use it more so now it the time to give her some TLC.

    I thank you for doing this series. You have the best tutorial for a 301. I’m restoring mine following you.

    What size screwdrivers do we need? I'm getting started on a 1953 301A that has been under a cabinet untouched for over 20 years. I'm so excited to get going on this project and your videos are amazing! Thank you for taking the time to create these videos for us.

      Hi! I love my Chapman set but it won’t work in all applications. You will need various sized flat head screwdrivers, I don’t think the brand is too important. If you have a Harbor Freight around they have affordable sets. I apologize in advance if this project causes you to end up with a bunch of flat head screw drivers, it comes with the territory! 😊

    Was just given a 301 by our friend who runs an Antique store, so I am thankful to find your channel! I may be ahead of myself but the last video you talked about the plug in and that there is another plug, this one has the original foot pedal with plug attached but not another one for the bottom plug in. Also i cant get the needle to move so Im looking forward to learning more about this machine so I can see if I can get it running

      Hi! The 301’s had two different plug styles. One had just one plug that connected to the machine and powered the foot control and the motor, just like the Featherweight. The other style had a plug for the foot control and another for power to the machine. What you will need will depend on which 301 you have. I can’t address the problem you have with the needle moving unless I know more. If you are still stuck email me at jen@sewingmachinerehab.com and I will try to help.

    Thanks for the videos! I just got into vintage machines, really the 301s and featherweight, and I'm soaking up all the information!! I like that you explain why and the hints. It's great for a beginner like me. THANK YOU!

    Thanks for taking the time to show this beautiful machine. I'm new to sewing machines but an old hand with tools. Working with slotted screws is a pain but to lessen the likelihood of damage you might like to have a look at a set of hollow ground screw drivers. AKA parallel screwdrivers. They have been ground to be parallel at the tip and they have less tendency to walk out of the screw when you apply pressure. I think your little ratchet/screw driver has a hollow ground tip. Also, a holding screwdriver is an absolute must when working on older machines. You can clamp a screw to the tip and get it places that are difficult to reach. Some are only for getting the screw in and not fully tightening. There are a few different types. Klein tools make a nice set, US made.
    Your series is giving me the desire to find a 301. I've watched a few random videos from the series and have come back to the start. Love this machine. Unfortunatly for me, the 301 was only made for the US and Canada and I am Australia. I will just have to be satified with my recently rescued 201. I have really taken to these beautiful machines.

      Hello! I should ask you how tomorrow is looking since you are already there 😊. I did finally get a set of hollow grounds, they are made by a company in the USA named Chapman. You are right, they are better! I also have a set of holding screwdrivers now by Feuerhelm but I am not particularly satisfied with them. The design makes the tip too wide to fit in most the the slots on the screws I am working with so I am looking at some different ones. The 201 is a beautiful machine as well, I have one waiting for me to start right now. I’ll be hoping that you find a 301 that made its way to Australia, anything is possible! Thanks for saying hello and for the good advice! Take care!

    I'm just beginning the restoration process. The small screw that holds the "pan" on the bottom of machine is tight and stuck. How do I get it to loosen? The machine so far looks "dry" if anything, not lots of grease. More dried oil varnish. It is a beige 301. Thank you for your help !

      Glad you got it! I was going to recommend non marring pliers. Sorry for the delay, the holidays have been busy. Good luck with your restoration, you can do it!

    What would cause green oxidization in the prongs where the power cord connects to the machine?

    • @SewingMachineRehab

      Hi again! They are brass so that just happens over time. You can polish them up with some fine sandpaper and just make sure you blow all the dust out really well. It’s kind of an awkward space to work in so I like to use the foam nail files in a finer grit to get the job done. Very common issue though!

    Where do you get the felt for drip pad, or what is it called, I need to replace several. Thank you

      Hi! I like the ones the Featherweight Shop sells, they have a nice sticky back. singer-featherweight.com/products/felt-drip-pad-for-singer-301/?aff=57 I used to cut them out myself out of industrial felt but these fit perfectly and are so much faster for me. Hope that helps!

    I am looking for a 1/4" quilting foot for my 301A. I bought one from Amazon but the shank is too short. Where can I purchase a correct one? Thank you.

      @SewingMachineRehab  Před 10 měsíci

      Hi! Since the 301 is a slant shank you will always need to include "slant" in your search for feet. here is a link to one on Amazon: amzn.to/3ZWtZMX is that what you are looking for? Let me know!
