      “An” versus “a” only comes before a word starting with a vowel.

      If you say SNL as the acronym then ‘An’ is correct, because the letter S is pronounced ‘As’ which starts with A. However if you say SNL as Saturday Night Live then ‘A’ is correct.

      The “S” is pronounced Ess so it has a vowel sound thus it gets the “an”
