Project Spotlight: Lobster Boat Prop Shaft and Gear Mount

Installing the Propeller Shaft and Transmission Mounts in a commercial Lobster Fishing Boat. The Boat is being custom build on a 42 foot Glaspec H&H Hull. The customer completed much of the construction of the fiberglass bulkheads, Fuel Cells and Deck. We are outfitting the vessel with a custom drive train with Cummins Marine Diesel and DMT transmission, hydraulics, controls, and more to suit the customer. Look out for more videos on this project.

Okay, I am not understanding why you install the adjustable mounts with the bottom nut all the way down on the threads. You can not adjust the gear down, only up. Should the nuts be centered on the mount stud. ?

We don't put them all the way at the bottom but we start with them closer to the bottom particularly when we are mocking up and drilling with little or no load on the mount. What do you think is going to happen to that rubber under load and over time? Its not going to get higher I can assure you that. If you mock up in the middle of the travel after loading and a few years of settling, you'll be at the top of the post.

@@SeaboardMarineIncVideos okay, I see now what you are saying, my total lack of experience with soft mounts. In the PNW on boats say over 40Foot, we hard mount propulsion. Like you say, the rubber gives out, and then your initial alignment goes out, compromising your gear/shaft alignment !
