    What I think is insane is people who go out and buy the most expensive sub they can find. ( thinking? this is the top line lol) currently, the single most expensive sub is REL Acoustics S/812 priced at $3299. and a pair of SVS PB16-Ultra priced at $5600 lol. I would never buy a ready-made sub regardless of price or company. always DIY.

    The intro to edge of tomorrow and the opening scene from “the nun” almost destroyed my subwoofers, absolutely insane I’m pretty sure one of them goes down to 10hz, it’s made me have to redesign my subwoofer enclosures into 6th order bandpasses just to bring the tuning lower to handle the frequency better, since my amps don’t have subsonic filters

I wanna put a Dayton SA1000 on it. Would you think the 950watts from the sa1000 would do the HO justice? I noticed you ran about half that power and said it could benefit from more power. I have the SVS SB1000... 12" sub. Think its like 13x13x14 in size. I would prefer a ported design to get lower.. will the MX15 go lower, louder in a similar size box? For that matter are there links to the plans to build the box (with port and brace) for that sub? Also, I ordered the NX6000D amp.. will that power two of these no problem? Still trying to figure out how much more bass one of these would be than the SB1000.. which already shakes the crap out of my room when I have it going loud. Would the CSS SDX12 XBL2 be a similar speaker.. at almost 2x the price.. not really sure if it would be worth it to go that route for a smaller box with more bass output if it can.

    • @Pentenfi
      @Pentenfi Před 2 lety

      The enclosure of the SB1000 is very small. It uses a lot of eq to get low, so its limited in output. If you want high output at low volumes, you need a bigger enclosure. There is no other way. The 15 inch subs need also much bigger enclosures to work sealed. Let alone ported. Look at how big the pb 2000 from svs is. This is the size you need

  • @darpmalone2064
    @darpmalone2064 Před 2 lety +3

    Thanks for the video. I'm surprised that the CSS 12" sounds better at high SPL... Maybe because of the dual PR design, sharing the excursion, eliminating port noise?

    • @Toid
      @Toid  Před 2 lety +1

      Yeah we were really surprised by it as well. We're not really sure what the reasoning was. There was no audible Port noise from either sub. But I think you might be onto something with the pacifier dealer design in general.

    • @erikbritz8095
      @erikbritz8095 Před 2 lety +1

      Probably is the surround size and spider design cause looser spiders and higher rolls mean better flex or better sound at peak SPL cause the sub flexes more and quicker when given big power.

      Isn't the CSS a xbl² design?
      That may explain the perceived result.
      If well implemented, it would offer up a perceptual difference in clean, hitting power (maintains it's magnetic strenth/control out to the Xmax, then pulling back in).
      The magnetic design is an
      effective means to a wide/flat BL curve, ie., the motor exerts a more constant force throughout it's excursion.
      A xbl² motor isn't the only path to linearizing the force thru the stroke. Also, merely implementing xbl² doesn't guarantee anything... the remaining elements need to be down for it too.
      Nice shootout.

    • @modernbassheads5051
      @modernbassheads5051 Před 2 lety

      Sealed boxes always sound better at maximum excursion because of their inherent design, ported wins every time in my book though. Specifically 6th order bandpass

    I wonder if the MX15 is as sensitive at low volume as the RSS, I DJ on occasion and love Bass. I push my woofers with the xti2002 as well and listen to my system at home daily which is much lower volume MOST of the time. Was the RSS LOUDest? (I've heard it was most responsive. Which speaker started getting loud before it started it's full excursion? (Know what I mean?) Jus' wondering.

    • @Toid

      The RSS was not loudest. The mx15 was louder. However keep in mind that we tuned the RSS really low which cut down on the wattage we could give it.

      @Grommet2007 Před 2 lety

      However, the title of the video says which will do the BEST, not which will do the LOUDEST :-). That's probably why a 10" subwoofer with an 18mm Xmax in a 2.5 cu.ft. enclosure has been the "best" subwoofer for my HT system for years. It can easily keep up with the rest of my modest HT system up to as loud as I'd ever want to play it, and I've never felt the need to upgrade.
      As for my car audio system, that requires a bit more, so a 10" woofer in a vented enclosure definitely would not be enough :-).

That MX 15 Is an absolute beast and for the overall value to sound and output hands down wins.
