    As someone without a 'larger frame' I have no idea why I watched this but seeing it was very informative and very nice of you to help people avoid potential embarrassments while embarking on rides. Really cool concept. I had no idea they had 'test seats' at these parks but that also is a really great idea, for a number of shapes and sizes that may have trouble with a ride. Kudos!

      Well, thanks for watching anyway! Yeah it's nice that it's available, but some people are very uncomfortable to try them still. Hopefully this helps people see that it doesn't have to be a big deal.

    Thank you for making this video! The non-inclusiveness of rides sucks because many people save for years to be able to go to these theme parks just to find out they can’t ride some if, if not, most rides so this video is much appreciated! Hope you do this for the other theme parks too!

    • @laurad1753
      @laurad1753 Před 3 měsíci

      I'm not sure if it's fair to paint this as non-inclusive on the part of the park... if they made seats for thrill rides to accomodate larger than average bodies, those seats would not be safe for children or people who have smaller frames. Unfortunately, they need to cater to the majority

    • @penabirdie
      @penabirdie Před 3 měsíci +1

      @@laurad1753 You’re right, maybe non-inclusive isn’t the best word. Fair enough due to safety reasons that the parks have to take weight & size into account, but it still excludes multiple groups of people so that’s why I chose it. Would still be nice if they could maybe add a row of seats that can accommodate more body types or maybe have the measurements listed on their websites, at least, so people could find out before they spend the money on the trip (though they’d likely never do that

I know that this is such a stressful topic and I'm so glad to hear that this has eased a little bit of that for you so that you can go into your upcoming trip without that feeling in the pit of your stomach. Also, I just got back a few hours ago from Universal again to finish up the test seats that I missed during our first trip. That video should be on the channel either this coming weekend OR early next week. I recommend checking that out too, especially if you're interested in Hulk, Jimmy Fallon, Ripsaw Falls and/or Rip Ride Rocket. We'll be going over those and wrapping up the discussion with some final thoughts. 😀

    I love the fact that these videos exist now - they certainly weren't available when I went in 2016. At that point I was 136kg (300lbs), 5ft11 and carried my weight in a fairly balanced way. I was in 44-46 waist jeans and closer to 50" chest. I was able to ride all the attractions bar Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey (and that was just barely missing out, I was told by like an inch or 2) and Curse of the Mummy. I did have to use the "big boy" seating on the B&Ms (Hulk and Dragon Challenge), and the larger seat on Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit.
    A lot of it is based on body shape over size necessarily - On something like Rip Ride Rockit it's less forgiving for people with larger hips, whereas the over shoulder restraints are far more restricting for people who are, erm, "top heavy". Another thing that's always worth bearing in mind is that the restraints are a lot more "springy" than the ones on ride as they lack the locking mechanism on the train so if you're close to the "good/bad" point on the test seat, often having a friend or staff member on the station platform that can give the restraint a push to get it to secure is worth bearing in mind as often you will just need a little helping hand to secure it. Be warned with that, the restraint will definitely be tight if you need help getting the green light.

    This is great info! I'm a big guy at 6'2" and around 300 pounds. I'm very thick in the chest and shoulders. In my experience, it's more about chest size than waist size. The only ride I've tried at Universal that I didn't fit was Doom. The HP rides are tight, but I barely fit. Forbidden Journey is VERY tight on my chest, like dont breathe deep tight. I've rides nearly everything at Universal, with bo real issues. The restrictions are tighter than I thought. I wonder if they present them this way for CYA legal reasons (ex if they said 50” waist was the cutoff, and someone with a 45” waist couldn’t fit..)
    I wish there was a way to test your fit before committing to paying for admission (or to get a refund)?

    • @2foolishmortals
      @2foolishmortals  Před 6 měsíci +1

      That's a good question! Probably. It's probably a CYA type of situation or at least a hand-off of responsibility to the guest who "should have done the research ahead of time". Either way, I don't appreciate that you have to buy a ticket. . . enter the park and THEN from there learn what you can and can't ride. I mean, I get that this is always going to be a possibility. . . but it's 10 out of 48 rides we are talking about here.
      In a perfect would, I would love to see test seats outside the ticketed area. . . like in CityWalk. It wouldn't even have to be all that complex or take up too much space; just put the least restrictive seat out there and say "if you can't pull this off you're not making any of these work". That isn't the best solution, I admit, but it at very leadt seems like a better alternative to paying all that money for admission without being able to ride.

      An ECV can be a bit cumbersome, but it's really the best way to go in order to move yourself around without needing assistance and after a few days it's somewhat easy to get the hang of.
      In terms of knee scooters, they are for those with ankle injuries. They are designed to be an alternative to crutches. If you have an ankle injury, they can be a huge help, but they aren't going to be ideal for someone who isn't suffering from that type of injury.

My waist measurement, when testing these seats, was 40 includes and there were some that I could just barely make work leading me to believe that you're likely to encounter some rides you'll be unable to experience during your visit. The best thing to do is manage your expectations and try the test seats once you get here. I'd also recommend keeping an eye out for some other creators who are testing attraction seats who have a body shape/measurements that are closer to yours. Hey! Sorry it took me a bit to get back to you. My understanding is that if you have a smaller wearable bag, like a fanny pack, and all of your items are secured inside you can wear it on most attractions. The exception is VelosiCoaster, Hulk and RipRide Rockit which require you to go through a metal detecter in order to get on. I say "my understanding" because I haven't done this personally yet. . . but I'm pretty confident that this is the case [through other research] and even went so far as to buy myself a fanny pack/belt bag that will help me avoid the lockers. That sounds like a good plan! That way, you can get a better idea of what to expect and set those expectations. I'm so glad to hear it! I know that there are a lot of people out there with different body shapes and sizes that talk about this, but I wanted to add mine to the mix too. Especially 'cause women vary SO MUCH when it comes to the way we wear our weight and that's so vastly different from men as well. 😊
