    *"Battleborne"*
    Performed by *Two Steps From Hell* with vocals by *Nick Phoenix*
    Written and composed by *Nick Phoenix*
    Produced by *Thomas J. Bergersen* and *Nick Phoenix*
    From the album *_Battlecry_* (Disc 2, Track 1)
    Published by *Two Steps From Hell* ℗ 2015
    *[**0:00** - Fanfare]*
    _(Choir; chants)_
    *[**1:05** - Intro]*
    _(Choir; vocals)_
    _Ahh, ahh, ah-ahh_
    _Ahh, ahh, ahh_
    _Ahh, ahh, ah-ahh_
    _Ah-ahh!_
    *[**1:30** - Verse 1]*
    Oh!
    There is fire in the air that I'm breathing
    There is blood where the battles rage
    These are faces I will not remember
    Will I fight for the Queen or the Slave?
    The treacherous part to play with a heart of courage ...
    *[**2:08** - Verse 2]*
    Where the wind from the North bodes the dragon
    And the armies and legions have formed
    We have camped for the night; food and cover
    Fading ghosts in the shadows of war
    *[**2:34** - Chorus]*
    Battleborne!
    Battleborne!
    Battleborne!
    Battleborne!
    *[**3:00** - Verse 3]*
    Gone!
    All the villagers led out to pasture
    The black wing of Death as their liege
    Felt the ground; it was bare from the plunder
    The soldiers that lie at my feet
    The maidens were lost wading across an ocean ...
    *[**3:37** - Verse 4]*
    On a ship heading south to the mainland
    I am standing in wait of the storm
    I was raised by the Wolf and the Stallion
    This sword was Battleborne
    *[**4:03** - Chorus]*
    Battleborne!
    Battleborne!
    Battleborne!
    Battleborne!
    *[**4:29** - Coda]*

    At first, being a choir singer, I couldn't stand way Nick sings the titular lyric, but in time... it'd be cliche to say it grew on me, but I think it finally sunk in just what feelings he's trying to get across. He sounds like a warrior turned folk bard, and not some professional classically trained singer. It just... finally hit me how much more that adds to the emotional impact. I approve

      Exactly! The more unrefined vocal performance give's it a more personal edge to it befitting about a song revolving around the cries of a battle torn warrior

      No, those who deserve to live and those who no. Honestly, the lyrics are cool, just the choir(Battleborn) seems to break the rythm a lot. Should have been kept in a word and assigned to a chorus

    "shadows of war"
    "black wing of death"
    "lay at my feet"
    "to the mainland"

    though especially
    "heart of courage"

      +anialator1000000 You know, I kind of can't believe that "Shadows of War" hasn't been used for one of their songs yet! It's just such a…TSFH-y title. I would not be surprised if in the future there were a song titled as such, possibly with a melodious reference to this song. ;)
      Most people haven't made the connection, but the title "Flight of the Silverbird" may very well be a reference to a line in Back to the Earth, "The flight of a sparrow will end, and the same goes for us." But it may not be, who knows. I do love it when they make those little references though, like in Sariel.

      +Motormouth Chopper Battleborn. Because Skyrim was always part of the empire. *AND* Ulfrics Stormcloak is an impostor.
      Not only, that he killed the High King, he also made very special deals with the Thalmor in the past and that makes him an impostor. And a traitor to his so loved homeland Skyrim.

    • @Haggysack2k8

      +Motormouth Chopper I once wanted to play on Stormcloak side (just one time, to know the difference), but as i was doing the main quest i found a the Thalmor note about Ulfric.

    • @Haggysack2k8
      @Haggysack2k8 Před 8 lety +1

      +Windra dyne If you want, i can copy+paste the lines from the quote from the game itself or a wiki-site on the internet. I don't think, that i misread something, because i read that note nearly 10-15 times.
      Believe it or not, Ulfric is a liar. (Saying something like that about a fictional character...jeez...)
      Edit: i read it now one more time again (internet). The dossier says, that he was an asset to the thalmor, meaning, that when he came back to Skyrim and while the markarth incident happened, he was some sort of spy for the thalmor, but seems to went rogue after the incident, because (theory) he saw that he was doing a good job and wanted the cake all for himself.
      So, even if he wasn't a thalmor-spy anymore, when he fought Torygg, he sure as hell was a spy before that happened. And with the killing of the current high-king (Torygg) he got greedy and wanted to rule Skyrim all by himself, instead of allying with the empire troops and fight back the Thalmor in Skyrim.
      After killing Torygg, he only wanted power and thought that he - while being able to shout - is the next emperor.
      And sry, but i don't support power-greedy guys only because he can talk so fine.

    • @windradyne8724
      @windradyne8724 Před 8 lety +2

      If he was a spy they would have called him an agent. No, the Thalmor had him unwittingly bring Markarth back into the Imperial fold so that it could not become independent (the Imperials were about to let it secede). This means that the Thalmor can exercise their strength there, as anything that is not Imperial is untouchable.
      What made him become uncooperative was the revocation of the right to worship Talos in Markarth. This is what sent him wild with religious fervor.
      I think it strange that you say he's power-greedy given that he is one of the most selfless people in the game.
      Galmar: "Then let them die with their false kings!"
      Ulfric: "We've been soldiers a long time. We know the price of freedom, but people are still weighing things in their hearts."
      Galmar: "What's left of Skyrim to wager?"
      Ulfric: "They have families to think off..."
      He's empathetic, which I can't exactly say for Tullius (although he softens up near the end of the Imperial Campaign which is nice).
      The only people who call him power-hungry are those who've never met him (Snow-shod) and Imperial Agents (Brunwulf Free-winter).
      "A stormcloak victory is to be avoided."
      At the very least, the Thalmor consider a Skyrim ruled by Ulfric to be very bad for them.

    And as a quick note to those that find the "ba-ttle-born" lyric awkward, the phrase is being syllabically emphasized. I don't think it should be perceived as being that strange a way of singing that phrase. To each their own, though.

The treacherous part to play with the heart of courage. Where the wind from the North boats the dragon. And the armies and the legions have formed. we have kept for the knight through the cover. Gone, all the villagers let out the pasture, the black wing of death as their legue felt the ground it was bared from the plunder, soldiers that lie at my feet. The maidens were lost waiting across an ocean. On a ship heading south the the mainland. I am standing in the way of the storm. I was raised by the wolf and the stallion. This sword was battle born. Battle born, Battle Born, Battle Born, Battle Born.

Funnily enough, after getting to love this, I tried Back to the Earth, and it's much easier to get into after this. Here come the purists who can't stand what is not orthodoxly epic. Well sorry, Nick's voice is great and fits in the mood of the song. Because, as it turns out, a TSFH song doesn't have to have as an objective 'be the most epic sound bashing song ever', if you think so your musical opinion is very close-minded.

    • @SuperGman117
      @SuperGman117 Před 9 lety +6

      Aeduh If someone doesn't like it, then they don't like it. One of the reasons people like TSFH is because of the music they usually create, and not this. With that said, I think it would be wise to rethink your statement, as this does not make someone closed-minded.

    • @silvettiluca97
      @silvettiluca97 Před 9 lety +6

      ***** He is right though. It's a psychological reaction that makes them close minded, it's not completely their fault.
      Let me explain: first of all, it means TSFH is changing, evolving. People don't like change, it scares them, it makes them think everything will change, the reason is very simple. If you listened to the early works of Thomas and Nick you will NOT hear lyrics, but now they're appearing everywhere and who's been here for a while is starting to get worried. Have you ever wondered why you sit always at the same spot at school or anywhere else? It's because you're trying to find a "safe" place where you can't be disturbed and you feel good, because you think you have control over that feeling. Let's say I'm someone who tried to escape the boredom of pop, rap, or something mainstream. If you find music like this, you feel like you're in heaven, reason being, this genre of music is meant to transmit emotion through instruments alone, and my god doest it work! It's amazing. But when I start hearing lyrics (hearing not listening), I feel betrayed.
      Here starts the mechanism: I like TSFH, personally, a lot. Because the music allows me to see things I wouldn't normally, it's exactly because it's lyrics-less that it works so well, it doesn't try do direct your thoughts towards something through words, words are a constriction. When I first heard lyrics I felt something new was coming, the difference between someone who really enjoys epic music, "comes here for it" when it changes, and the safe spot is "contaminated" and don't like it automatically. Everyone has experienced this in a way or another.
      Can you imagine Taylor Swift switching to classical or heavy rock music? There would be a riot caused by her fans. Exactly because of the change mechanism.

    • @SuperGman117
      @SuperGman117 Před 9 lety +2

      LUCA SILVETTI Or it could be just because of our interests. I mean, I don't feel betrayed or anything. I just get annoyed, because I don't like lyrics.

    • @silvettiluca97
      @silvettiluca97 Před 9 lety +1

      ***** Yes, it could be. But the mechanism exists to protect us, it's there for a reason. Some people have control over this, but the people who "come here for *insert anything*" are unfortunately affected by it. You are different from them, the proof is that you don't feel betrayed, just annoyed, as you said. But! Do you get annoyed by ALL songs here with lyrics? If yes, there you go. Mechanism in action. If no, shit, I think you beat one of humanity's worst weaknesses.

      +sean simpson the reason they didn't remaster oblivion or morrowind is because the game engine is so old they would have to build a new one. that means starting from scratch and remaking the entire game. they did skyrim first because its easier and then they can get funding from that to remaster the other ones 😁 but like the CEO said they aren't a vending machine. they release games when the creative team is ready to. That way each game is awesome. unlike a certain companie that makes a new sucky game every year...

    Standing on top of the hill, General Grant Jackson looked out at the Orc hordes lined up below him. Fifty million of them altogether. Compared to those vast numbers, his army of Five thousand were hopelessly outnumbered. Jackson took a deep breath. They were outnumbered, but not outclassed. The Phoenix legion was sometimes down, but never out. If they lost this battle, they would still rise from the ashes to fight again! The general drew his sword and raised it high. Behind him appeared the Phoenix legion. General Jackson shouted a mighty battlecry, joined a second later by his men. The general swung his sword forward and then he and the Phoenix legion charged, still bellowing the battlecry, into the Orc hordes.

    Certes, le fait qu'il y ai des paroles à cette chanson peut être désagréable au début car cela surprend et on ne s'attend pas à en entendre dans une musique de TSFH mais j'ai pris le temps d'écouter et finalement ça ne rend pas si mal et c'est même agréable à écouter.

    it started out great but then the singing came in and it just...fell short. i usually don't mind singing in this kind of music, like Thomas Bergersen's song Children of the Sun, but the singing in this just killed it for me. i'm glad to see from the comments below that there's an instrumental version of this.

    I bought this album on impulse and I do not regret spending a single penny of those $9.49. I am ADDICTED to some of the melodies in this album, but in the instrumental of this particular song, it's the piano melody @1:31 that keeps me coming back.

    I don't understand why so much people are complaining about the lyrics. Here's a change, for sure, bu this still is celestial. It's a different style. And this sounds like the ending song of some film (like Neil Finn's song of the Lonely Mountain).
    Music make us braver

      +Opalium so with those poems in red tower and stronger, faster, braver, have you made more for TSFH. I mean like ones for this, cannon in d minor, everlasting, ones like that. And if you could, tell me which ones cause I really like those.

      YES. NICK IS SINGING. He also sings in Back to the Earth (Skyworld).
      Thomas also sings, and the only ones I know of with him doing it are Into Darkness (Illusions) and Where Are You? (single).
      (I know it will probably never happen, but imagine a song with both singing. 😱)
