As a man who was a victim of abuse I can say it's ABSOLUTELY a reason to leave. If I didn't I would have been in jail for actually defending myself. As a man try calling the cops and tell them that your wife just hit you. You Are told to walk away.

I was just picturing the hundreds of examples I can just think of off the top of my head of wives who stabbed their husband's in their sleep (where the husband survived, luckily), or she decided to cut off their testicles/penis in their sleep.
Being married means that spouse can now visit you in the hospital at anytime and has the legal right to do so for the rest of your life. This isn't even including all the assets and property they recieve after your passing as well. So if they ever get out they have full legal right to come live with you again or to stalk you.
This isn't even including that if you do seperate, you would no longer be allowed to get married again, this abuse would loom over you forever, regardless of you were married for 20 years or 2 months.
This silly man is literally asking to be murdered by his wife like it's the early 1900's when she no longer wants to be married, because that would literally be the only legal way to end the marriage and have full legal autonomy.

As a kid (14) who was abused until 9 when me my siblings and mother moved away the endure thing is bullshit because if we did my mom would be dead and I would probably be as well. I was lucky to get away with ptsd and nothing else. But this argument pisses me tf off

Enduring abuse? People end up dead from that kind of advice. Enduring only emboldens and enables the abuser. That's like saying it's a phase and they'll get over it. Oh... They actually went there?!

And once his "daughter's husband" recovers from these so called "lessons", guess who's gonna pay for it tenfold!?! The daughter/wife! These guys are blaming the woman for "not enduring" the abuse. They obviously have ZERO clue how F'N hard it is for a woman to leave such a situation and how many women lose their lives, or come close too, in an attempt to save themselves and any children.
As a SURVIVOR myself, this whole podcast infuriates me. I still remember the last time, as I lay at the bottom of the stairs (after he dragged me down by my throat on my back) and he climbed on me, he wrapped his one hand around my throat again as he held the scalpel in the other hand; I knew that that would be the end... I had very little fight in me anymore after hours of trying to leave. BY THE GRACE OF GOD, a friend happened to stop by, which saved my life! Due to this happening at the beginning of COVID, and his ability to get continuance after continuance, he never spent a night in jail! He got 3 mths house arrest, 1 mth curfew, and 18 mths probation. _My heart breaks for the next girl he meets!_ I wish I had some way to warn them, because I wasn't the first, nor will I be the last! 😢

I actually know a family where the husband was alcoholic and used to beat his wife and his kid. Fast forward 10 years, his wife is mentally unstable, son fell into wrong crowd and got addicted to drugs, and husband is realizing his mistake turning to turn his life around for his son. Abusive relationship are bad for your family. Leave if you can.

Yeah, just ignore the data on the number of people who regularly get murdered by spouses or exes. What? When someone's dead body is found, the police tends to look at the nearest and dearest first because statistical data suggests murders are more often perpetrated by people who are close to the victim? Just ignore that and stay. 🙄 (That was sarcasm.)
Imagine being choked by a dude taller and heavier than you and thinking "That's it. That's the end." If you survive that, you won't survive the next time.
Your life matters more than your marriage or relationship. Read that again.

The scary part is, these guys ARE real. And a LOT of people -- especially religious men with a fragile masculinity and fragile ego -- watch these podcasts and agree with these extremists. Their dangerously sexist, patriarchal, religious extremist views are real, and many people in America follow them. These are many of the people make up the GOP, and we're leaning towards a patriarchal theocracy because of this.

The bit which gets me is when he avoids answering her questions by saying they’re extreme, niche examples - it doesn’t matter if it’s niche, you can still answer it. It’s like asking hey, you’re stuck in a maze and the only way to escape is to fight John Cena or The Rock, which one would you rather fight? The chances of you being in that scenario is pretty fricking niche but you can still answer the question.

Even if we pretend abuse is rare, it's a nonsense point to bring up when being asked "what if" because what if it happens? No divorce simply because it's rare? Even if rare you should still support separating due to abuse, the theoretical rarity of it is meaningless.

These people are also the same ones who condemn couples who move in together before marraige. Like you can't argue against divorce if you're also against unmarried couples living together to see if they are compatible in a mutual environment.
I'm not commenting on the rest because it should be common sense and August already said most of what I could say.

I was in a very abusive relationship a few years ago, he also cheated on me more than once, but the crazy thing about that is - him cheating on me was the least of my concerns at that point! The abuse was a flipping nightmare, and I was so scared for my life. I just wanted out, not because I was weak and it's too hard. I was in danger. No man or woman should have to put up with being beaten.

Actually divorce is better for the children, because as someone who has divorced parents who tried to make it work for me and my younger brother, I can tell you that it just added tension to the household and kids can feel that tension, I felt it and I was about 4 or 5, and it adds unnecessary stress to their lives. Thankfully my mom decided to divorce my birth father because it made everything less stressful for everyone.
