    This is a perfect "morning coffee" solitaire experience. I've been having a ton of fun with it and also hugely recommend the story expansion just for that extra bit of zest.

    Played my first game today so good timing on your review. I dig it too and really enjoy how it doesn't ever feel like it overstays it's welcome (good game length). It's very relaxing to play. Definitely agree that a roguelike legacy boardgame would be really great.

    The art style reminds me a little bit of Walt Disney's Sleeping Beauty. An artist by the name of Eyvind Earle was responsible for the really dramatic look, especially the backgrounds.

    Nice vidéo !
    Definitly, the story cards are to rare. I think 3 or 4 more cards calling to them would have be great !
    It's a little game with really cool art and offer a nice experience for the price. But it is also very repetitive and often you'll be screwed no mater what choice you made (i died more often from a lack of ration than anything else).
    It won't fit to every dungeon crawler fans but with this cost you can give it a shot with no regrets.

    I don't think that you should discard cards after resolving them, because there are skills and cards that allow you to swap cards between them.

  • @TheRedPolyhedral

    Someone on BGG has already made that card with all the symbols. It's in the Files section of the game page. I realy enjoyed the video - it is very helpful. Not sure I agree with the legacy idea, though. As it says on the box, death is final. In co-op mode, you could learn from the other player's actions and discoveries, but I don't see how you could really carry over anything from one incarnation to the next.
    Just after 22:30, you rolled a 3 in the library, then misread the card and used the 5 result as they go across the card, not down.

      I always make tons of mistakes when playing. Don’t think I’ve ever once played a single game right in my life. That’s why I don’t do how to play videos. :)

    • @TheDungeonDive
      @TheDungeonDive  Před 2 lety +2

      Tons of rogue like games have legacy elements. It’s an entire sub genre of video games started with Rogue Legacy. For perfect examples please see: Rogue Legacy, Children of Morta, Slay the Spire, Hades, Tangledeep, Dreamscapers, and others.

    • @TheRedPolyhedral
      @TheRedPolyhedral Před 2 lety +2

      @@TheDungeonDive There's nothing wrong with learning from your own mistakes as a gamer. That should be unavoidable in gaming, whatever you play. However, carrying something forward after the death of your character isn't automatically good just because many games do it. In this respect, gaming is like fiction, in that it relies on suspension of disbelief. I just can't believe in carrying attributes forward in this manner. Sure, learn not to attack a particular monster in a particular way, but I just can't get behind carrying XP or anything forward like that. That's just my view, though, and it would be a very boring world if we all agreed about everything all the time....

    • @TheDungeonDive
      @TheDungeonDive  Před 2 lety +2

      I'm not saying it's good or bad, simply saying I wish this game had something like that; it's not a criticism, but an item for a wish list. That's the kind of rogue like games I prefer, and I wish more board games did this because that's what I like. You like what you like! :)

    • @TheDungeonDive
      @TheDungeonDive  Před 2 lety +2

      I think about games in a very wholistic way. I am constantly taking into consideration all of things I like and dislike about game design applied to the breadth of games within certain genres and sub-genres, and then examine each of those as applied to the specific game in question. I very rarely think about any one certain game in a vacuum. So things I point out as “missing” aren necessarily problems with a specific game, but they’re only things I might typically prefer for games in that genre or sub-genre.
      Additionally, this game actually has legacy elements in the campaign mode. You carry over upgrades from one quest to the next. My wish was that this was also applied to the non-campaign mode as an option.

    Seeing these wonderful dungeon crawlers remind me too much on why i cant get them in the only game store or bookshops that sell dnd (the former mainly sells TCGs, geedubs minis/books and boardgames but none are dungeon crawlers while the latter doesnt sell beginner boxes for pf only a few books alongside zweihander and rpg assist books) and would have to resort paying a premiun on amazon to get them (1usd = 50 of home country's currency).

    One Deck Dungeon has a legacy system, where you can improve your starting skills, potions etc. based on accumulating points over each run. The game is nearly unwinnable without it.

    Good video but what most players miss is that you can't use skills after a roll. That makes the game too easy. For example at the 28:01 mark, the decision to use the Conjuration skill should have been made BEFORE the roll. This drastically changes the difficulty :) Hope you might add a few lines on errata subtitles there to inform new players.
