Loved the deal when it happened. Love the restructure even more. We will get the best out of Diggs cause he's playing for a contract. Nick Cassario is playing chess with the NFL and he's winning. The Watson trade, his draft picks, and his free agency trades, the guy is a freaking genius.
Texans used drafts for long term build, while still used fa for SB runs. Nick is a genius.
Often overlooked is that fact that the restructure allowed us to spread out the cap it. Only 6.5M is hitting the cap this year, instead of 22M. Because of that, we still have ~23M in cap space to make more moves.
I watched the show a couple of times, this the one that got the like AND subscribe. Nicely said. Go Texans.
The deal gets an A+ for me. They effectively incentivize a top 10 WR to play hard, whilst making sure to be all in during CJ's rookie year. If this works out, I can definitely see more big FAs trying to get 1 year deals with us for a shot at a SB.
This was easily an A++ trade! We got an elite WR in Stefon Diggs for peanuts and a cherry on top in the form of 2 additional picks. The Bills were complete fools for letting him go for so little but I guess they felt like they had to move on but hey their loss is our gain and I'm not complaining!
A+, now Diggs is incentivized to be the best he can be so he can ask for more money next year, and if he doesn’t then Houston can release him with no cost
Caserio is a genius 👏
Texans Nick Caserio be playing chess, while the other NFL teams are playing checkers!
a+ masterclass
Texans don't need Diggs to be a vocal leader in the locker room. CJ and co. are already handling that just fine. We just don't need him to be a distraction and look, there's no reason to be and DeMeco wouldn't let it fly anyways. Early on, fanbases love him. We positioned ourselves to get the best version of Diggs for a year and then both sides can make a business decision from there. Having the right GM has made such a difference. The truth is that Nick was building this up since the Watson trade. We're seeing the culmination for a team positioned to apply pressure to rest of the AFC. We play both the Chiefs and the Ravens in the regular season so we get to see where things stand amongst the highest level of competition. Looking forward to it. Go Texans.
Here’s my question. Regardless of how well Diggs handled things or how mature he was in dealing with adversity, is he wrong? To put it another way, if Diggs had been a WR for the Chiefs, would they be shipping him out due to his behavior?
I say this because I can’t disagree with him on not believing in Kirk Cousins. I also can’t imagine working so hard to win in Buffalo only to see Josh Allen give the game away on some bone-headed play.
Now Josh Allen is one of my favorite players, but CJ Stroud plays a more sustainable, consistent style of football and has better accuracy. I also think the personality difference matters.
I can’t predict what happens next, but it wouldn’t surprise me to see CJ command a little more respect from Diggs and to see Diggs honestly happier playing on this team. I’m also not a huge believer in Sean McDermott.
All of these could be excuses Diggs is hiding his poor behavior behind. Or Diggs could just be right. The NFL gives players a small window to realize their dreams. I can’t fault players who don’t want to be in situations they don’t believe in. I’m happy my Texans were willing to take a chance on him. I hope it works out. I’m well aware that things could go south too. That’s why shortening the contract was a good move. Let’s go!!!!!
I think it’s very smart. I give them A+ if he comes over here talking a lot of smack he’ll only be here for short term it’ll be cut cut out. But next year Houston can go out and look for another premiere receiver in the draft younger.
2025 draft will be the year we look for another true #1 receiver for CJ Stroud. Either that or we try hard to trade for Justin Jefferson. I can see him playing for the texans someday. Probably wishful thinking but would be awesome
Love the deal A
