  • After a long delay, the Argo project is back again. This video covers flushing the brakes and trouble shooting a few electrical issues, such as failure to charge the battery and a broken ignition on the Argo. This video was actually made a few months before it was published, so I hope to have another update video with some more action sometime soon.

    Great video! Looking forward to more video adventures with your argo. I live very close to the Argo factory in New Hamburg, Ontario, Canada. Nice to see you bringing this old one back to life!

    Watching 10 months after your post. Already waiting on your next. Just recently purchased an Argo very similar to yours. Currently in debt due to upgrading and repair. Looking forward to your next video.

      "currently in debt due to upgrading and repair" that is an excellent way to describe my Argo ownership experience so far. But to be honest, most of the work I have done I did because I wanted to upgrade, and because I enjoy it. I planned to make regular videos on that machine, but I spent so much time working on it that I stopped filming. I had another video almost ready for release, but I scrapped it. I do plan to do an update for it soon, I have a lot of the filming done, but I'm using it pretty heavily for hunting and guiding right now so it may be another few weeks until I start editing. Which Argo did you buy?

    Hello Sir, thanks for the video. I appreciate people giving love and attention to theses old beasts. I have the exactly same model..magnum 1988. I did a complete tear down and rebuild 3 years ago. Allow me to share a few tricks. For the engine oil change I installed a ball valve with a 90 degree elbow where the drain plug is located near the drive pulley plus a rubber hose so I can put the pan in front of the transmission pulley. Super easy and clean !! I also use a big hospital seringe with a a transparent gas line to suck the oil from the galipers. Thanks and take care.

      Appreciate the advice, I think I'll add that ball valve like you suggested!

    Great video! Glad to see you've made some progress! Don't be so hard on your self, you actually do a great job of formatting your videos. I would personally love to see more of the process you go through with your repairs. It really helps a lot to include what may seem like pointless or tiny details when using these videos as a reference when repairing our own machines!

      Thanks Alan! I'm never sure how much detail people really want with these videos. The Argo has had a lot more work done to it, I'll make another update video sometime focusing on the other work that's done and after that I plan to get into the modifications such as an enclosure and tracks. I've put quite a few hours on the machine for hunting season this year and it's worked the very best.

    I had a similar thing with my argo brakes last year. The type of fluid is critical because mineral based fluid attacks the hose & seal rubber itself. It also does not mix with other types of fluid like mixing water with oil. I found the easiest way was to remove the calipers, strip them down & install new seals, then do the same with the cylinders. I flushed everything with brake cleaner before reassembling & bleeding. Unfortunately if someone has put tge wrong fluid in there it is not as simple as changing it out for dot5...

      Thanks! I love the old magnums. Other than only supporting a smaller tire size, they arnt much different than the newer argos I sometimes run.

    Fantastic video Bennett! 😀 I was just wondering what you've been up to! Don't feel bad, I've got behind as well my friend. Still trying to get caught up. Nice to see the Argo run through the mud at the end. I'm glad things are going well for you. Can't wait for more content. 🙂👍

      Thanks Zane! I haven't been around YT very much latley, but I'm hoping to get a little more time behind the camera in the coming weeks. I saw your teaser post the other week, looks like you have a big video in the works!

    Just FYI for the future. Dot 3 and Dot 5 brake fluid are incompatible with each other so you really don't ever want to be putting Dot 3 or Dot 4 brake fluid into a DOT5 system as they don't mix well and can actually gel up and really cause a mess.

      Sorry, don't know how I missed this comment for so long! It's actually been a few years now since that video was released, and I haven't had any issues yet, fingers crossed. I'll try to remember to take a peep next time I'm in the garage and see if there's anything bad going on in the cups

      @@RustRehab with as old as that thing is and with how common. Three and four are compared to 5 it's pretty likely that someone else is already put three or four in there.

    Yes different sizes.
    Inflate the tires to 5lbs.
    Then measure their circumference
    The smallest tire is first
    The largest tire is second
    The third tire is the second largest
    Forth is the third largest
    They are Steue up to run like how tanks are setup

    • @RustRehab
      @RustRehab  Před 2 lety

      Thats called tire indexing, it's only for tires of the same nominal size with small differences in diameters due to imprecise manufacturing. How you index them changes with what type of track you're running. My tires arnt even the same nominal size in any dimension, some were 22x11 and some were 20x10. That's too much of a difference to run with

    I used dot3 fluid in mine when I first got it and would lose braking in the side I put it in once the brakes got hot.

    • @RustRehab
      @RustRehab  Před rokem +1

      That makes sense, I think Dot3 has a much lower temp rating

    • @aurtisanminer2827
      @aurtisanminer2827 Před rokem

      @@RustRehabyea, those brakes get so hot that dot 3 and 4 just arent rated for it. When I first got the argo one of the calipers had that goopy looking fluid like yours. I think it is due to water contamination. Dot 3&4 both absorb water into the fluid if some moisture finds its way into the system. Since dot 5 is silicone based it doesn’t absorb water like the other two so it separates. It is also possible that someone put the wrong fluid in like you said.

    Great job . Yes AATV 6x6 8x8 sure can take a huge amount of time . Yes hard on your back .
    Did u use Dot 5 silicon fluid ?? Charge regulator is from a later command series Kohler engine .
    Ebay Not familiar with the engines prior . Sand blast axle ends paint with industrial 2 part epoxy and coat with rust prevention fluid . the axle wheel ends are hollow . Use capped wheel nuts if u can get them and use loctite silver grade never seize . Very hard to wash off .
    Try a new clutch CVT belt age has probably made it hard / stretch .CVT need the exact correct belt .

    • @RustRehab
      @RustRehab  Před rokem

      Yup, I used the silicone dot5. It was not cheap! That machine has served me well ove the last 2 years of hunting and guiding. I have done quite a bit more to it since my last video, including building a body support frame and partial engine rebuild. Im away for work right now, but I hope to finish an update for it in the next few weeks.

      The link you left just goes to a search, but not a video. By different, do you mean different sizes? They should never be different sizes, that will destroy the chain drives because they can't spin at different rates. You'll always be dragging the smaller tires. Minor differences in tire diameter (even of tires the "same size") is okay, but if I remember correctly those ones were off by 2 inches in height and one in width.
