Really - who? We didn't have a replacement for him after he left and actually do not have a specialist free kick taker even in today's squad. Consistently successful DIRECT free kicks are not a common thing. The memories we have are of exceptional freaks of nature. Real Madrid relies on getting the ball into the zone from a free kick... we have enough scorers to latch on to a loose ball and score. A consistently successful direct free kick taker would be welcomed... sadly not many around today.

I think Ronaldo should’ve retired from international football after the last World Cup. My opinion was reinforced after he started in the final group stage match against Georgia. There was no reason for a 39 year old CF to play in a glorified friendly match when 8 of the other starters were benched for rest. Especially when a do or die knockout stage is a few days away. You can’t tell me it wasn’t a selfish display and the main reason was to get on the scoresheet and extend his record of consecutive tournaments with at least one group stage goal.
I seriously hope he doesn’t start against France. He’d be much more effective as an impact sub. There’s no way he’s going to break down French defence, when he couldn’t do it against Georgia or Slovenia.
