The entire album, "Aenima," is easily regarded as one of the greatest albums of the 90s... if not the entire rock genre.
Beginning to end, this album is completely in-your-face.
The song, "Aenima," is based on a comedy skit from deceased comedian Bill Hicks, who described his disdain for the Los Angeles culture. His sketch was a work in cynical irony, as he prayed for Armageddon to strike the area, and he was a fervent atheist.

The reason this song seems so different is because it's based on a classic comedy bit by the late Bill Hicks, in which California gets dropped away into the ocean, forming "Arizona Bay." He was friendly with Maynard and they were planning to incorporate his act as an opener before he died of cancer. This entire album was actually dedicated to his memory!

And that was without the benefit of knowing what the FUCKing lyrics were about exactly. I think it was the rolling drum triplets that really knocked my socks off. 25 years later and the song is perhaps even more powerful considering the steady decline of our culture and the rise of climate change. Anyway, great reaction and go Seahawks!

Except "Sober", of course. Yeah, I didn't like anything (else) off of Undertow or Opiate until, oddly, I watched here on CZcams their performance at JC Dobbs back in '92. Sound quality sucked. Video quality sucked. But damn, that shit was RAW. I've never looked at those first two albums the same since. I had "Bottom" on perma-replay for months! I'm lucky I didn't go deaf!

@@Bramble451 I'm old. So I was 22 when undertow dropped. Just loved it. So I went to see them at first ave. In 93. Maynard looked exactly as he did in the video you spoke of. Simply captivating. I've seen them 12 times. I wish Maynard still performed out front. By the way, Preston seems to like cerebral Tool. Tre from "fish out of water" likes angry Tool". Watch Tre react to this song. He just about loses it. Fun shit. 🤘👽🤘 p.s. watch Tre react to bottom as well.

Love your videos dude! A cool fact about this song is that it's spelled Aenema, as opposed to the album being spelled Aenima. Aenima is Latin for "the soul", but if you spell it with an e it becomes enema. Hence the phrase "flush it all away". Tool is by far my favorite band and seeing them live was truly magical, I hope you get to see them soon!

When the new TOOL drops, don't do a song by song reaction.

Not that you need another fan telling you about tool, but Tool time line basically follows:
Early years/90s: Opiate and Undertow Albums. These 2 albums are explicit and dark. Especially undertow. They take on subjects of atheism, censorship, and working through suffering.
Mid Late 90s: Aenima, which shares a lot of themes with undertow, but you also see Maynard and Tool start to steer away from that "darkness", and make points about being more self-aware. They kind of use rage as a fulcrum for healing.
More recent albums from this century: Lateralus and 10,000 days, where most of the songs you've been listening and reacting to. These albums are mostly about healing, altruism, and moderation.
Please do some Nine Inch Nails. Not a lot of reaction videos out there for them, but they're a huge band. Try Head Like a Hole, Survivalism (very unique, nothing else sounds like this), and Perfect Drug (best drum solo, EVER).
    Keep going, brother!

The song is about how he is done with California. The hipsters, Hollywood, the pretentiousness. When he says "moms gonna fix it, moms gonna put it back it ought to be" hes talking about mother nature and earthquakes and tidal waves breaking off Cali into the ocean so Arizona now would be the coast hence the "learn to swim" line and "see you in Arizona bay". Great song, LOVE all of your reactions.. You are THE best to watch keep it up! Crazy the musical journey we’ve all had. I went from Beach Boys to Paul Simon to Cube and Dre to Green Day. My first solo concert was Green Day (during the Dookie come up) and I’m the middle of their concert, they shouted out the Tool album that was about to drop. Crazy that this song got so much airplay despite the endless cursing. Great song never the less. Always drawn to reacts like this cuz it’s the same as my musical journey...never had a country phase (though I love a ton of country) but I’ve been floating though genres for 30+ years. Sometimes the planets allign, a group of talented people gather and vibe creating works of art...masterpieces. Sometimes its a song, sometimes its an album, sometimes a band. Tool is one, you can always tell because they create their own genre, their own sound, their own universe. Those bands that meld a masterpiece are easy to tell for no matter what i cant turn it loud enough, and i agree over ear headphones are really the best way to appreciate music to its fullest. As you know preston there are many other genuis bands.... Pink floyd, jimi hendrix, stevie ray, rage against the machine title album...masterpiece, zeppelin, eminem, tupak, it doesnt matter what genre from classical to opera, country, bluegrass, reagea, rock, pop, etc and on and on many rabbit holes of genuis to explore. I dont think you have done any rage, i suggest freedom from title album. Love your work bud, your taste and appreciation for genius in all genres. You do an excellent job and do justice to us all expanding our own musical tastes as well. So level up for preston!

Technically he references the sentiments of being embarrassed by consumerist lifestyles, marketing, pop culture, and social significance being a result of our intellect and references the Arizona Bay special since he was close to Hicks who was a dark controversial comic blacklisted in the US up until his death but way beyond his years. Admired for passionately injecting philosophical points of thinking and challanging an audience to a point of screaming in anger hilariously in his Chicago video. It's worth watching one of two bit because tool have songs about him and referencing him. Mostly after his tragic death to cancer in the early 90s
