opening credits to a 1980s episode of "Pinwheel", the popular children's program carried on Nickelodeon and also seen on specialty services in other countries
I'm a grown man sitting here sobbing like a baby watching this. The colors the way they drew the credits the music brings back a floood of memories. It's sad that my childhood is gone forever but I still have Pinwheel.
Oh my lord. You just brought a 43 year old man straight back to saliva hanging out of my mouth drinking my little Nestle quick powdered chocolate milk and having zero worries... now it's Paw Patrol and Fancy Nancy and all these other ones. Not bad just different.
Brings tears to my eyes..take me back 35 years when my mom was still living and turned this on for me everyday after school..not too many of our neighbors had cable back then and it was new and we were lucky to have it
Watched this at my grandmother's house when we used to go visit. We didn't have cable. So, it was the only time I got to watch it. Plus, my grandmother lived in Jacksonville Alabama where there was absolutely nothing to do but play by yourself and be bored. This show was my only entertainment. Man I miss those days.
Yes, the innocence of the cocaine filed 80’s of big hair, big shoulders, sexual discrimination and Wall Street about to crash onto our heads. It wasn't innocent when we lived it, we were. I like living NOW where we are more open, where people feel allowed to live as they are. Just wish I wasn't 40...like maybe eleven, but with my adult brain. 😁
Because while Nickelodeon is by my count available in over 40 countries, Pinwheel, started off in one state over a proprietary broadcast system, and while the series stuck with Nickelodeon until 1984, few people watching stuck with Nickelodeon until after 1984.
BelleFemmeDiaries nope...watched Pinwheel, Calliope and Romper Room as a kid. Two of which were on cable (Nickelodeon and USA) which made them feel special
It's amazing how obscure this show is considering that it literally started the first and most successful children's tv channel of all time. Cartoon network took a similar path, the first ever original cartoon network show was the moxy and flea show, and there are no known home releases of it and is mostly lost. It wasn't even mentioned during cartoon network's 25th anniversary celebration.
Well, actually, believe it or not, creator and executive producer Vivian Horner previously worked for "Sesame Street"'s production company, the Children's Television Workshop, as director of research for one of their sister programs, "The Electric Company."
I’d watch this all morning, then Today’s Special would come on after. Good times. The after my older sisters came home from school, You Can’t Do That on Television and MTV.
Seeing this again.....I have no words. I just feel...happy again. Like I'm 5 or 6 sitting in my living room watching this with my mom. This show, among others, were a HUGE part of my childhood.
Brings a tear to my eye and a warm fuzzy feeling in my tummy. I'm proud to say that I'm 34 and my 10 and 5 year old know this song. Thanks for putting this here for more generations to enjoy!
I remember waking up each morning and having my peanut butter toast and strawberry milk and watched pinwheel. God, what's happened to children's television?
Holy cow! I watched this when I was like 5-7 years old. I would always catch myself humming this song but couldn't remember where it was from. it just came to me the other day. I'm 37 now & was STILL humming this song. glad I found it!
alstottfan97 I was about 4 or 5. I loved this show. I was humming it too. I never really learned all the words LOL!!! Man this brought back so many memories.
Born in 1978. Pinwheel and Today’s Special were some of my earliest memories of watching T.V. “You can’t say that on Television” also was fun to watch on Nickelodeon. I also watched a lot of “Not Necessarily the news” on H.B.O.
Used to come home from pre-school and watch this show in the afternoon. I believe this show helped launch Nickelodean which dominated my childhood up until the early to mid 90s. Good times.
KeepitThoro247 I remember watching Sesame Street when I was real young. Then when we got cable when I turned 12 I feel in love with Pinwheel. I still hum both shows to this day. I'm in my late 40s and nothing on TV today compares.
I watched this when i was a kid in florida back in the early 80's, first memories of having cable TV.Alot of people didn't have cable back in the day and if you didn't you got like 6 or7 channels and that was it.Meow!
When I was 6 in 83 I couldn't stand this show, but now hearing the theme again, the memories pour in. I was a 'Inspector Gadget' kid and YCDTATV. ah Nickoledeon, those were the days.
Almark im the same age as you and yeah the nostalgia is great, but hated this show. Today’s special too, couldn’t stand it. You can’t do that on television, that was a damn show.
My baby brother used to watch this every day. I was a little old for it so it annoyed me. Oh how I wish I could go back to those days. I loved my brother so much, and now we are estranged. Such innocent times. I wish we could relive them.
Does anyone else remember when Nickelodeon went off the air (about 6pm or 7pm)? The last show was Dangermouse. Then they started Nick At Nite which I believed aired The Donna Reed show first.
LOl sure do I remember those days You Can't Do That On Television came on first followed by Dangermouse then BananaMan then Nick at nite although DangerMouse was not a Nickelodeon made cartoon it aired on nick in the 1980s' Nick pulled a few cartoon shows from Europe in the 1980's But I watched this Pinwheel in 1982 when I was 4 after I got got home from Preschool lol! nick has sure forgotten their roots but it's the memories that count! :}
+R Stallworth II I loved You Can't Do That on Television and Dangermouse so much. I remember watching Belle and Sebastian on Nick too, one of my favorites.
I remember Nickelodeon BEFORE Nick At Night! Pinwheel, The Tomorrow People (the GOOD one, not the remake!), Danger Mouse, You Can’t Do That On Television! Those were the days!
I don't remember anything about being a child. My entire childhood is a blank spot. These tunes and sounds though, the really old children's shows well up a sadness in me. They ring familiar, and once in a while they spark a memory. I love it, because I remember the feeling, even if not daily life. I miss that happy feeling. I get to learn a little about who I used to be.
0:14, there's Aurelia, hello there. 0:17, there's Coco the mime fixing a sign. 0:22, there's Sal and the Admiral Bird. 0:24, there's Ebeneezer T. Squint and the Hobo bugs. 0:28, there's Silas the Snail and Plus and Minus. 0:31, there's Luigi O' Brien and his vegetables. 0:34, there's Molly the Mole. Good Morning! 0:37-0:43, there's Smitty taking a picture of Kim and Jake. 0:45, Well I guess everyone's here so lets go to the garden and listen to the songs and watch the skits from Pinwheel.
Wow, this takes me back to when I was a kid far away in that magical decade known as the 1980s. Eating Rice Krispies and watching this great children's show. They really need to bring shows like this back for kids these days. Everything now is imported anime from Japan and Spongebob. Seriously, I don't even know how some of these kids shows today have the "Educational" rating in the top left corner. No kid needs to be "educated" on how to capture a Pokemon or the spastic ramblings of a damn sponge.
Loved this show when I was growing up. Looking at kids shows of today, the shows of the 80's and 90's are far superior when there was actual imagination and educational.
To recapture our childhood, if only for a moment. This makes me cry tears of happiness and longing. I spent many days at grandmothers watching this. Such beautiful, fond memories. Pinwheel, Today’s Special, Belle & Sabastian, Leo the Lion and Cities of Gold. I watched those everyday on Nick TV.
This was one of my favorite shows I used to watch growing up as kid this brings back so much memory.I am 35 year's old now have an son who just turn five this week I wish they had this show so he can watch it.
This was essentially Sesame Street on a cable budget. I didn't have Nick when I was really young but my grandma did and I'd watch it at her house. I remember those early early days of Nickelodeon when they had a lot of imported shows like Danger Mouse, Pinwheel, Mr. Wizard and so on.
Katie Baily Believe it or not, Pinwheel pre-dated Sesame Street by almost 10 years. It wasn't just a show, it was it's own cable channel for many years, started by a philanthropist who wanted to provide educational programing for children. When he retired, the channel was purchased and rebranded into Nickelodeon. All the Pinwheel shows were repeats from the 70s.
I certainly remember this show! Me and my sister watched this FAITHFULLY in the summertime. It came on all morning. Nickelodeon wouldn't be Nickelodeon if it wasn't for this show!
Yes. If memory serves correctly, it was known as The Pinwheel Channel (or Pinwheel Network) until 1981 or 1982, when the same parent company that owned MTV (I think it was Viacom) and changed it to Nickelodeon. The Pinwheel Channel was only available in the local markets of Canada and the upper midwest (Minnesota, the Dakotas, and I think Montana). At the time there was very little children's programming in the way of all ages. You had Sesame Street, which was aimed at the toddlers and preschoolers (up to age 4 or 5). You had some programming that was aired in local markets geared towards more older children (10 and up), but very little in that magical 6 to 9 range. That's where Nickelodeon filled in. The flagship show for the Pinwheel Network, Pinwheel, had the format for that set. You had the bright colors, memorable characters, and simple storylines for the 6-year-olds, and many of the cartoons and actual dialogue was more distinguishable by the 9-year-olds. Hell, even as an adult I find bits of it enjoyable, and not just for the nostalgia. I find many of the cartoon segments, which came from different parts of the world (mainly European countries and more than likely Canada), as enjoyable. Some of the dialogue between the human actors and the puppets, especially the "adult" puppets (Ebenezer T. Squint, Silas the Snail, Orelia Ball, and Molly Mole) may seem simple at first, but there's a bit of complexity there as well. Over the years Nickelodeon grew to become what it is today. Even though the programming today seems to be shit compared to what it was when "first generation Nick Kids" were, well, kids, it still holds its ground. I've found some fairly modern Nick shows (90s and early 00s) to be just as enjoyable, such as Fairly Oddparents, Danny Phantom, Doug, Rugrats, Ren & Stimpy, and Spongebob Squarepants. Yes, it seems Spongebob has become more simple or dumbed-down compared to the earlier seasons, but I know many adults who enjoyed it when the earlier seasons first aired.
My aunt, who used to babysit my sister and I when we were in kinder and 2nd grade said we used to drive her crazy with this show on all the time... This song swam in her head all day. Now a grown up with a daughter of my own, my daughter drives me crazy with her DVDs repeating all day. VERY nostalgic to hear this again after about 27 years.
Yep used to watch this one every day as a kid. Still remember the line up. Pinwheel , Today's Special, the Elephant Show, etc.... Those were the days, long gone but never forgotten.
+Thvndar I don't know. I remember children's shows like *"Pinwheel,"* *"The Electric Company," *"Sesame Street,"* *"3-2-1 Contact,"* and *"Boomerang."* *"Pinwheel,"* *"The Electric Company"* and *"3-2-1 Contact"* have faded into obscurity, but *"Sesame Street"* is *still* on the air. How crazy is that?
+Jason Carpp Square One Television was a PBS series focused on mathematics and abstract mathematical concepts. The show was produced by Children's Television Workshop (known today as Sesame Workshop), which brought us 3-2-1 Contact, The Electric Company, and Sesame Street.
I'm the same age, and I remember watching this on at my Grandmothers house when I was lucky enough to stay over. She was the only one in our family that had cable.
I feel like this is a special reunion, i connected to my childhood self Immediately such a powerful feeling I will make sure I save this video and play it for time to time
Hey I was born in 88 so technically speaking am considered an 80s person... But yeah the 90s were my childhood. But we still had good shows in the 90s too..
I remember this so well from when I was just barely five years old. And I didn't have any biases towards it or Sesame Street, I loved them both. No, I don't think kids are being cheated out of good shows. There a lot of quality educational programs now that are just as good, if not better than the ones I had at that age.
This song will forever be etched in my brain. Oh, the happy old memories. This show was my only friend back then. Funny... don't have a lot friends now either. And, Pinwheel is gone.
Pinwheel Theme Song. Pinwheel, pinwheel, spinning around. Look at my Pinwheel and see what I've found! Pinwheel, pinwheel, where have you been? Hello, how are you? and may I come in? Pinwheel, pinwheel spinning around. Look at my Pinwheel and see what I found! Pinwheel, pinwheel, breezy and bright. Spin me good morning, spin me good night. Pinwheel!
This really takes me back. I used to watch these while sitting on a play school bench coloring in my coloring books. After this show would end I would watch "Bill Cosby's Picture Pages"
Yes this was my jam on Nick. Remember when they had a fairy-tale theater Marathon on Nick sometimes. I would sit and watch it back time back. And I'm in my 30s . Remember Ru bear and friends? Ah memories. :)
this takes me back to those days when i was at home sick and could watch this show with a bowl of chicken noodle soup near by. there's nothing like grabbing a little piece of your childhood, even if it's just for a minute and twenty-three.
This theme song has been in my head for almost 40 years. Anytime i see a pinwheel,i sing it.
I'm a grown man sitting here sobbing like a baby watching this. The colors the way they drew the credits the music brings back a floood of memories. It's sad that my childhood is gone forever but I still have Pinwheel.
Clay C. Same here. Haven't heard this since I was in kindergarten. Soon as I heard it I started crying. Reminds me of my mom.
Your not alone brother!
Thank God for CZcams!
I do that with almost any video that reminds me of being in my pre-teens, in the early-late 80's.
Frank Oz?
Hello, childhood. It's nice to see you again.
Jonathan Ellis Loved the intro to this, but didn't care for the actual show.
One of the few happy memories I have from my childhood. Man it's hard trying not to cry while reading these comments. The world is so screwed up now.
Wow now let's look in 2006
Hey remember later they had a slogan to Nickelodeon... It went "nick nick nick, nick nick nick, Nickelodeoooooooon!... just hit me.
Oh my lord. You just brought a 43 year old man straight back to saliva hanging out of my mouth drinking my little Nestle quick powdered chocolate milk and having zero worries... now it's Paw Patrol and Fancy Nancy and all these other ones. Not bad just different.

It's sad that such an important show in nickelodeon's history has been long forgotten.
Not by me. This was a staple of my childhood!
Especially since Nickelodeon was originally called Pinwheel.
Me too, I watched it all the time when I was kid.
TheBambam2371 yep forgotten
i thought it was a channel
I totally remember PINWHEEL!!! I wish kids today could experience the magic and the innocence of the 80s...
Oh!! the shows from my childhood, wipes away a tear... I use to watch this faithfully along with Today's Special.....
me too....and wow, I totally forgot about Today's Special
I think you can watch Today's Special on here. We had so many great shows back in the 80's. Unlike the reality crap that pollutes TV these days.
Thomas Storff idk why Netflix doesn't hunt these down and put them on! 80'S had the best cartoons and shows!
I loved "Today's Special". That and "Belle and Sebastion". Those were my shows.
😊
Wow....this got me teary eyed. I loved this show as well as "You Can't Do That On Television " and "Inspector Gadget".
Everyone looks at me so crazy when I mention this show. I feel like I'm the only person who ever watched it!
+BelleFemmeDiaries you're not! ;)
Because while Nickelodeon is by my count available in over 40 countries, Pinwheel, started off in one state over a proprietary broadcast system, and while the series stuck with Nickelodeon until 1984, few people watching stuck with Nickelodeon until after 1984.
No I'm with you!
BelleFemmeDiaries this song is in my brain!
BelleFemmeDiaries nope...watched Pinwheel, Calliope and Romper Room as a kid. Two of which were on cable (Nickelodeon and USA) which made them feel special

This show was pretty much the Sesame Street of Nickalodeon!!!
Zakiya Luqman The singing bugs probably remind people of Sesame Street.
This was my Sesame Street before I knew what Sesame Street was.
Eureka's Castle was the Sesame Street of Nicklelodeon.
Well, actually, believe it or not, creator and executive producer Vivian Horner previously worked for "Sesame Street"'s production company, the Children's Television Workshop, as director of research for one of their sister programs, "The Electric Company."
B U G S
Brings back so many memories. I watched this every mourning as a kid. Man I missed these times.
Dallas Cowboys fan 1980 me too lol
Its forgotten and if you told nickelodeon they wouldnt remeber what they were called or did back then
I’d watch this all morning, then Today’s Special would come on after. Good times. The after my older sisters came home from school, You Can’t Do That on Television and MTV.
I was born in 1973, and I watch this all the time. What Memories, sitting on the living room floor at my great-grandma's home.
Bro - when are they going to fire Garrett Already?
Seeing this again.....I have no words. I just feel...happy again. Like I'm 5 or 6 sitting in my living room watching this with my mom.

2030: "Hey, remember Nickelodeon? What ever happened to it?"
God, what's happened to children's television?
reirei121that is one unique snack combo.
Gone stale and overused.
I'm 45 and this song pops in my head when ever I start thinking about how much I miss my childhood and my grandparents. They had cable.
Wow, I feel like I'm a young child again. Watching Pinwheel, You Can't Do That on Television , David the Gnome. Ah the memories....
I feel a forlorn, almost empty sadness watching this that I can't quite put my finger on.
God this whole opening was an LSD trip
Complete nostalgia!!! So blessed to have had a good rent and bill free childhood!!!
Born in 1978. Pinwheel and Today’s Special were some of my earliest memories of watching T.V. “You can’t say that on Television” also was fun to watch on Nickelodeon.

This was one of my favorites. I also love the Sharon Lois and Bram Elephant show
I use to TOTALLY LOVE this show!!! I watched it back to back with "Special Delivery"! Oh how fun and creative Nickelodeon was back in the day!!! ;D
pinwheel pinwheel were HAVE you been?
he's taking job in dark souls now
Pinwheel's in a place called show heaven
This made my heart happy! Oh take me back! The good old days!
used to watch this as a kid with my mom and we both learned english together from this show
I loved the theme song, don't remember a single thing about the show!
This song and show was respite for many of us with unpleasant upbringings. Football lineman, Marine, Cop....and it moved me.
Kinda brings a tear to me eye .
I immediately teared up!
One of my earliest childhood memories ... Way before I knew what stress even was
KeepitThoro247 I remember watching Sesame Street when I was real young. Then when we got cable when I turned 12 I feel in love with Pinwheel. I still hum both shows to this day. I'm in my late 40s and nothing on TV today compares.

This was before Nickelodeon came along. So this was the Mother of Nickelodeon!
Benjamin Dekker anyone remember Nick rocks?
Oh my God! I watched this every day! I loved this show!
It's an early cold snowy morning in NC in Jan 2018. Always remembered"pinwheel" spinning around from my early 80's childhood
So much nostalgia here, I grew up on this, Sesame St., and Today's Special. Fragile Rock too, can't forget that one
Fraggle Rock, not Fragile, lol
Holy crap! This song just brought back a flood of good memories. I watched this show as a kid in the 80's
was just blown back 30 years.
Me too I remember watching this as a child. I'll be 36 on the 18th of this month. :)
You're a young'n. LoL.
Well I'm a young adult yes.
That's OK ... I'm an old little kid.
+watchensee, I turned 40 this past November 11th. This makes me feel my age.
My baby brother used to watch this every day. I was a little old for it so it annoyed me. Oh how I wish I could go back to those days. I loved my brother so much, and now we are estranged. Such innocent times. I wish we could relive them.

feeling my age right now. my childhood right here

One of my favorite show back then. Didn't have no worries oh how I miss them days....best childhood
My first grade teacher played this during snack time, circa 1987.

Loved this show when I was growing up. Looking at kids shows of today, the shows of the 80's and 90's are far superior when there was actual imagination and educational.
I still find myself singing this. Such nostalgia
Why isn't there a tv channel that plays all old 80s and 90s cartoons 24/7.
Really? I didn't know that.
Because old cartoons were too racist and violent. Not PC enough.
@@SKEC212 That's a load of hooey. Nucktoons were far from racist
I would watch this with my bowl of cereal in the morning. I can remember those days like it was yesterday.

This was the Program that literally BECAME Nickelodeon.
I remember this show! Takes me back when Nickelodeon had quality programming!
Can’t even begin to explain how that song just touched my soul....... “pinwheel”........
This definitely brings back childhood memories ❤️ loved this show
Yep used to watch this one every day as a kid. Still remember the line up. Pinwheel , Today's Special, the Elephant Show, etc.... Those were the days, long gone but never forgotten.
I remember watching this during the summer at my grandma's house.
How did Sesame street last the test of time, but Pinwheel fell into obscurity???
+Thvndar I don't know. I remember children's shows like *"Pinwheel,"* *"The Electric Company," *"Sesame Street,"* *"3-2-1 Contact,"* and *"Boomerang."* *"Pinwheel,"* *"The Electric Company"* and *"3-2-1 Contact"* have faded into obscurity, but *"Sesame Street"* is *still* on the air. How crazy is that?
You forget SQUARE ONE, the show I used to watch in 2nd grade, but helped me right up until I took my SATs
I'm afraid I'm not familiar with Square One.
+Jason Carpp Square One Television was a PBS series focused on mathematics and abstract mathematical concepts. The show was produced by Children's Television Workshop (known today as Sesame Workshop), which brought us 3-2-1 Contact, The Electric Company, and Sesame Street.
yeah, it's an excellent show. We could really use a remake for the modern era
I'm the same age, and I remember watching this on at my Grandmothers house when I was lucky enough to stay over. She was the only one in our family that had cable.
I feel like this is a special reunion, i connected to my childhood self Immediately such a powerful feeling I will make sure I save this video and play it for time to time
Glad I'm not the only one with tears watching this! Such innocent childhood days!
All you 90s kids, whining about how you miss you Rocko's Modern Life and the Rugrats, totally forget about this!
Hey I was born in 88 so technically speaking am considered an 80s person... But yeah the 90s were my childhood. But we still had good shows in the 90s too..
Simon Gonzalez Did you watch The Angry Beavers? That is a great show of the 90s.
You said it. Hey remember a little later came the Fraggle Rocks....
Oh my gosh, I'd forgoten how much I liked this show when I was little! THANK YOU for posting this!!! :-)
ohymygoodness....I can't believe my eyes! I miss this show! I'm having a moment of nostalgia...oh gosh...I could just cry now!
Memories im bout to tear up man the music was amazing as a kid growing up in the 80s
This made me smile.
Mr. Joe Walker Me too.
Glad it made you smile 😊😍😘❤️I have the Pinwheel song stuck in my head that’s why I keep on singing 🎤 it
I remember this so well from when I was just barely five years old. And I didn't have any biases towards it or Sesame Street, I loved them both.
No, I don't think kids are being cheated out of good shows. There a lot of quality educational programs now that are just as good, if not better than the ones I had at that age.
I'm pushing 40 but remember watching this show all the time. Times flys, pay attention, get your face out of the phone or you'll miss it.
This song will forever be etched in my brain. Oh, the happy old memories. This show was my only friend back then. Funny... don't have a lot friends now either. And, Pinwheel is gone.
I wish I was a child during those times.
I was :-D

Pinwheel, pinwheel, breezy and bright.
Spin me good morning, spin me good night.
Pinwheel!
That's my childhood right there. :')
Funny feeling of oldness.
Nickelodeon in the 80s was awesome. Great memories.
this takes me back to those days when i was at home sick and could watch this show with a bowl of chicken noodle soup near by. there's nothing like grabbing a little piece of your childhood, even if it's just for a minute and twenty-three.
ahhhhh the infancy of Nickelodeon .... wasnt this on all lmorning till YCDTOTV cam on???
Yes it was dude i watched this faithfully
Kevin Jackson
Do you remember that segment that was just a montage of changing shapes? I forgot what it was called but that music was supper trippy.
Jack Atkinson vaguely, it was clay animation wasnt it ?If you find a clip of it anywhere let me know .
Ocktopia
No, it wasn't Chapi Chapo, that was claymation. This was just classically animated geometric shapes combining into really nifty stuff.
Jack Atkinson I'm sure it was called "Mixometric" It was paper cut outs of shapes that changed patterns to the music.
Better than Breadwinners
Anything is...
I feel like a kid again looking at this...memories
My childhood just flashed before my eyes
This isn't Dark Souls :O
I though I'm the only one :/
