Laura´s Industrial Lamps

- Last week i came across 2 of these super rusty gasbottle caps.
I thought they were perfect for an industrial reading light i wanted to make for a while now.
I am in love with the classic Kaiser Idell Scissor Lamps and so i tried to recreate that design and adapt it to the gasbottle caps. It works really well and i am super happy with how they look.
Although this looks quite complicated it is actually very simple to make...just prepare to spend some time at the drillpress :)
Let me know how you like these lamps in the comments below.
Thanks for watching!!

Having gone pretty far down the rabbit hole of hobby metal-working and purchased a lathe and mill, I always want to dope-slap myself when I see a real artist get it done with simple tools I had already owned from way back but never thought to put to such use. Nice work.
The brass was such a nice touch, I love her aesthetic
Just watched this on the big screen tv with my little kids. You had them mesmerized.
sweet! :)
Wow ... Fascinating ... what a beautiful industrial look you put in this piece ... I'm amazed by your incredible videos and projects ... congratulations, you're the best!
Wow.... 😱 How cool is the entire video, man oh man, now I have that musical loop everywhere I go, or when doing stuff, tnx dear Laura for sharing the magic!!! :D
Lovely steam punk look with gun blueing patina, & once it's in place it looks like it has always been there: Useful, practical & harmonious. I have used the washer trick for rounding corners, but always by hand file, never occurred to me that a belt sander would as good & much faster: Inspiration & education, thank you!
Hey Laura, I'm needing some additional lighting in my shop. I know this video is 4+ years old but thanks for providing the inspiration with these lamps! I currently do not weld so I have to modify to my abilities and available resources. Keep up the great work and inspiration. Your work is a gift. Prost!!
Yup! Yup! Sweet Build Big L!!! That's just plain FUNKY FRESH right there! Much Love! Have A Super Week!.....Gus
The best furnitue and lighting I find on my travels is always made in this way by some person like 70+ years ago.
Incredibly happy to see this reemerging!
Laura, I am in love with your camera work and how you film with your work as the main subject!
Aha! I finally found where all the traffic to one of my older builds (industrial chain lamp) was coming from. Great work Laura, and thank you for the traffic!
What a fantastic build! You are one of the most creative and stylish makers on CZcams.
wow, thanks, man!
You have a beautiful eye for style ..design and detail...a polymath in progress..well done.
Cool lamps! What a treat with new content from you. I always get inspired and creative watching you work! Thanks so much Laura!
stuff like this blows my mind. i like this type of creativity
I smiled through this entire build, Fantastic job!!
Wow! I love the minimalist use of tools! Most of the makers on CZcams would have used about $5000 more equipment, but you produced a working scissor linkage with a grinder and a drill press! That takes some skill!
Those lamps are awesome! I'm sure they'll come in handy! So happy the Lincoln Electric gear is already getting a workout. Love the Rosie the Riveter patterned welding helmet too! Nice one, Laura!
the helmet and the welder are fantastic! thanks
Hi Laura, loved the build this week, and my wife loved the music choice as she was dancing away! Everyone's happy...lol
haha, that´s awesome!
You are the DiResta of Germany with out the amazingly overdone product placement. Great design.
Awesome as always Laura! It's nice to have you back!
I LOVE the idea of using an angle grinder in place of a belt sander. Brilliant!
Beautifully designed and made Laura!
beautiful work that comes from a heart of gold.
Awesome build! And yet another washer useful tip. Thank you Laura.
Not only did I love the build Laura - but your UP BEAT music as well! Just do NOT UNDERSTAND how anyone would give you a thumbs down on this. Keep up the great work.
Incredibly organized, thanks for the wonderful video!
Another freekin awesome idea Laura!! Thanks for sharing and inspiring! I almost forgot one of my favorite parts of the vid, the music! It was rad!
These are really beautiful. Thank you for sharing all of your work with us, it's inspiring to me as a maker of things and a maker of videos.
Fantastic Laura! Wow! Beautiful job!
Love it Laura. Thanks for sharing this with us.
i love the style of this lamp
Real one! Touch and feel confidence
Just watched this again with my 4 year old daughter, she was quite concerned about your thumb and adores your welding mask.
I was so excited when I saw a new video from Laura this morning! Really creative build and awesome filming/music as always. Thanks, Laura!
:)
Love it! Another "Bright" idea! Good job!
Stunning work! I love how you have thought through every detail as always. Thanks!
thanks, josh!
Love the music and the craft. Keep up the excellent work
Awesome! Love the creative reuse of the gas nozzle covers, and the washer tip for rounding the ends of the steel stock. I can't get enough of that fabric covered insulated cord, use it for everything (so far two pendant lamps and two desk lamps). Can't wait to see what else you make!
oh yeah, these cords add a lot of quality to every project! don´t use anything else anymore either :)
So well built and well thought out design.
Very cool video, beautiful music and amazing lamps
Absolutely lovely project!
Very nicely done Laura, love the design would love to see more designs like this
You always have the best music in your videos.
Xcellent repurposing, Laura! Beautiful project. 🌈
You always have the best ideas and music.
super badass Laura. in search of a sweet industrial floor lamp for the office so this really had my attention 👊🛠
They turned out amazing! Really great work Laura!
Awesome lamps, I really like the wiring that looks good left exposed.
Love the cable management. Also the fabric coated flex looks great, after seeing you use it here and Simone use it on her Spool I just want to use it to replace all the cables in my flat.
those cables just add such a quality to any lamps! very much worth the extra dollar
you know I started watching you because of your great taste in Music. but i also really love the projects!! Thanks for the videos
I like the method you used to round the corners perfectly.
I have to say since finding this channel 2 days ago I jumped to making things after a nearly decade long drought of ideas thanks for the inspiration! your craftsmanship is fantastic!
oh wow, that is great to hear!!! enjoy!
That moment when You grind edges by a washer is genius!!! Thank You so much!+))
Hiya, way beyond cool, 1st. rate concept, execution, filming, editing and music! I love the way your mind works, anyone could see the safety covers but you could see the lazy tongue lights. But it's not just seeing it's having the necessary skill set to achieve your goal and then doing so. Keep on trucking Dear Lady, keep showing us the way...Steve
thanks, steve!
Love it! I think this is my favourite project of yours. Very inspiring!
thanks!!
Super cool project, and your metal fabrication is awesome!
Another great project, awesome!
Love the lamps. Very cool.
this is sooo good, I love every single one of your projects!
Great design! Must have taken forever to cut, grind, and sand all of those round edges.
probably around 2 hours...not too bad

I come to see your sunday video and of course it's one of a kind again. But no, it's not all, you put in a christmas gift for me :) You found a blackener! :)
Thanks Laura, you're the best!
unfortunatelly i bought it in new york...still no source of blackener in germany to my knowledge. but yesterday a friend told me i could also use "stahlbeize" never heard of that...
I Love it !! Well done Laura !!
That's really cool , takes pieces of metal and making something functional. It also looks cool , great job .you should sell them .
i love your works and music.
Awesome!!! This is the kind of work that got me interested in your work.
To me, this kind of build really is the core of your channel: great edit, innovative and useful designs!
thank you!
i remember making this at school back in the day but with cardboard and a small bulb. This is amazing might redo it in steel as well
A great project and very cool lamp.
Love these lamps!
Very nice, the purple cord looks great! And all done with only 1/2 hands well done :)
Stunning. Great video as well!
Wow, I'm so fascinated by this!
thanks, carla!
Such an awesome design & execution!
You are the best!
thanks, man!
I just live the design!! it's so cool!
super nice build, love the contrast of the blackened steel and the purple cord :D
Nice job :)
thanks, olivier. i agree, they look great together
Nice idea, Laura. I have in my workshop a bell which I made out of a small disposable propane bottle of the type used in the USA. I cut the bottom off at just the right place (lucky) and it rings very loud and "true". I hang it from a piece of wire through the valve top, which I drilled a hole in. Nice work.
Keep em coming , very creative Laura. You help me to stay motivated , I'm working on my 4th video . You Rock!!
AWESOME! good for you man! keep going!
Wow! Love this one.
Love it!!! what a great idea, and well worked out too
You are incredibly inventive, hats off.
thanks :)
Yeahhhh... Great !!! It's a very good idea ... il like it 😍 Fast and simple of realization ... All I like❗ Congretulation Laura 👏 ... Have a good day ❗😜😜
Good job on the build and the interesting shots, nice welds too.
Another great video Laura. I'm definitely gonna lift this design when I next work on shop lighting.
Another great video! I love the way you put it together!
Just a suggestion for when you have to do the same operation to a lot of individual parts (drilling, shaping), stack them and tack them together. While each hole will take longer to drill, it'll cut down your overall time at the drill press and all the holes will be in exactly the same spot (as long as all the parts were lined up when tacked together!) if you tacked at the ends you could start rounding the corners off and then as you get to the final shape, grind off the tacks. That way you wont have burn marks in the middle of your part.
Fantastic design!
