- (EN/中文/Bahasa/Tagalog) Hello again from Bali, dear friends! We've been settling into our new place, and a big and exciting part of everyday life for this period has been eating and trying out all sorts of Balinese and Indonesian local food and it’s all so stupefyingly good. Also definitely very spicy, but still sooooo good! We don’t speak bahasa Indonesia, so the food names can be a little complex but we overcame all obstacles with Google Translate. We even discovered the beauty of Gojek Food delivery services, which has opened up a completely new world of local food possibilities for us. Watch on to see which fantastic local foods we have been trying & my favourite Indonesian food discovery so far!

Jean and husband. Honestly I like the voice tone and the attitude both of you ...nice, calm, cool and polite ...keep humble with smile ..love both of you guys
Thank u so much! We really appreciate you being here!
glad you are enjoying Bali. "Bagus" is nice in the context of non-living things like pictures, clothes, sceneries, etc. When it comes to taste, it should be "enak", which also means nice. for living beings such as animal, persons or personality, the word to use is "baik". e.g.: babi gulingnya enak (the roast pork is nice), pantainya bagus (the beach is nice), anjingnya baik (the dog is nice -- personality wise)
hi joan, thanks for the tips! we learnt a lot about how to say delicious haha ... enak! Lezak! Jaaaan (apparently that's balinese local lingo)! thank u for baik! that's new to me
Hey! I'm from Malaysia and everything is Bagus .
What a stunning lady you are Jean. So inspiring for me to begin a life of happiness and contentment as you have. It's never too late to be what you might have been. Regards from Australia
thanks Ross 🤗
Watching you describe the delicious Terang Bulas and the rest of the foods, just makes my mouth water and fly over to Bali🤪
Haha mind travels!
Love the vibe of this video - so chill and pleasant. Thanks for showing us around! Martabak is awesome! Just got intro'd to Indonesian cuisine a couple months ago and now I'm on the quest to taste them all!
thank u Jason! i'm with you - big fan of indonesian food now that we're being more adventurous..... so far it's mindblowing!
Jean very friendly and humble like Indonesian people,,,i love your smile
Indonesia is a paradise for a culinary adventurer. It might be a new taste, but you will catch its deliciousness so fast, it will melt not only in your palate, but also in your memory. But for those who are not culinary adventurous, the option is only two, either you will love it, or hate it. LOL
hi Arman, thanks yeah we're definitely on the paradise side! Im just starting to discover this peanut sauce thingey on this ayam bakar i ordered hehehe yummmz!
Not really! I dont like it too much due to their poor hygiene sometimes, but I still eat it~~
Kami merasa bangga kalian mau mencoba makanan lokal Indonesia & belajar bahasa Indonesia 👍👍👍
makasih bro!
In Java, mostly of martabak stores open ordered from 5 p.m to 10 p.m, but in Bali they sell the product even in day night. What a amazing 😁
Oh really? That’s interesting, Yes here in Bali it seems to be available all day long esp over Gojek, lucky for us!
You made the right choice to move to Bali. Very strong to do that in spite of all the spiteful comments from your Chinese relatives ( the worst) and so called "friends". How do I know that, just by looking at how happy you are here. Happiness is the most important thing .
Thanks! I got lucky lah, guess I’m surrounded by friends n family who r all quite kind n kept their skepticism mostly to themselves lol
Thankyou for mentioning that martabak and terang bulan are different foods, so that people wont be confused!
hi faris, didn't know they get confused but we're happy we didnt! its so yum!

If you are a seafood lover and don't mind to be a bit adventurous in the wet fish market , you can go to Pasar Ikan Kedonganan (Kedonganan Fish Market) in Jimbaran. You can buy any kind of seafood there, fresh and very reasonable price. Then bring it to the restaurants just outside the market, they will happily grill it for you for about 15K-20K rupiah (IDR) per kg. Enak dan murah.
hi Rudy, I loved that you took time to send us this kind recommendation. We also were shown this Kedonganan seafood market by another local friend and we've been there in the mornings - it is SO reasonably priced! we got squid and fish and shrimp etc but we cook it at home hehe. it's super awesome! we love the place, thank u!! so kind of u to share this, as was the case w our local friend 😍😍😍😍

Greetings from BKK! Love the food ..
Nice and delicious food!
Enak enak! 😋
Ohhh How I miss my Country... Babi Guling and drinking Teh Botol are the best.
it is indeed totally awesome!
Nice la, nice. hahaha. Your influence. Surprised to see Vitaly munching on the chilli padi. Gojek food seems surprisingly cheap considering the inflation in Bali. If you like Babi guling, check out Bapak Dobiel in the Bukit. Nearing Nusa Dua on the bypass, abt 100m down the last right turn. Among my favourites in Bali are Satay with extra kuah on rice, Ayam Betutu (best was a small eating place at the old airport. I always eat before leaving) Bali Guling, Ubud, the 1st Ibu Oka outlet, fried banana fritters and what they called molen at the same stall. And of course the ubiquitous Nasi Jinggo. If you don't want too spicy, ask for Balinese sambal matah. Not too spicy but very fragrant,... i can eat plain rice with that alone.
Forgot to mention Nasi padang (not exactly Balinese but still in Bali) I'm a night owl and many nasi padang joints are still open late nights..... eating that in some little place at 3am with a few other local night owls strumming guitar and belting out Indonesian ballads.. and kretek filling the air... ooo .. its so surreal i tell you.
hey your description of the late night nasi padang really got me..... actually we r like old people we go to bed at 10am hahaha (we also wake up early lah... but still).... i'm so intrigued. I love it when they gather n play music theyre such musical people. n the food recs sound really good thank u so much! i will def check out the stuff u mentioned!! i gotta find out what ayam betutu is man. and uh what's kuah? also, what is this lalapan we see everywhere but cannot figure out?
yeah the sambal rocks. Spicy, but really so much flavor.
@@JeanVoronkova I saw the shop you had your babi guling said ayam betutu in their banner too. It's nice. Bebek betutu also nice. Got to try Murni's in Ubud too for duck. Bebek Bengil is nice too but its fried duck. Kuah is gravy. Lalapan is like some healthy food (not for me haha) Its a dish that may contain chicken or fish served with usually raw vegetables. Sometimes called Lalap too. Don't be afraid to try all the food, they're all edible. Just whether to your taste or not. But if you see lawar..some contain raw blood. You might want to ask first.
Jean one of the Local tourists favourite is Mak Beng ( fish ) in Sanur. Not barbequed fish. Very very good. My family must visit place whenever we are in Bali. Happy to see you both enjoying your food 🥰
Hey Laning!!! Thanks for leaving this note! You’re not the first one to tell us to head to Mak Beng I really must plan for this next week or smtg! It must be so amazing that so many ppl urge us to go! 😄😄😄 we’ve actually put on so much weight since we moved here that we bought gym memberships haha but the food is so awesome!
Best time to visit is for early lunch or late dinner ( 10am - 8/9 pm ) otherwise be prepared to queue.
Enak 👍
🤩
Martabak terang bulan, the best
martabak manis maaaaantaaaap ya 😄
Have fun & enjoyed ...
I’m glad 🙏😄
@@JeanVoronkova 🙏
I recommend ...try nasi Padang.. thank any way .
oh yeah! we have been going at the nasi campur definitely! can't get enough of the veggies!!!! so fragrant!

we thank your country for having us! it's so wonderful here. Hello to u from within Indonesia!
Thanks for sharing local food in Bali. The food looks absolutely delicious 😋
I love your vlog, keep it up Jean 😊
Thank you so much 😁 glad you enjoyed the food!
Lovely to see u guys enjoying local food, anyway, to sound perfectlly like a local, u can say 'enak banget' meaning very delicious ...... also, the right pronunc of pedas, the vowel sound is like when u say these words in english: About, pErson, Earth, or bIrd, not like these: sEnd, pEt, or frIEnd, hav a good time in Bali
Thank u Franklin, that’s very enlightening! I’ll try to remember that when I say pedas next time! haha
Sate babi bawah pohon, nasi campur Pak Malen
eating make you happy. nyam2
i agree! we get happy 3-4 times every day!!
Nice video, new subs here. Actually, I really love Japan and Russia. I learned Katakana - Hiragana and Also the Russian alphabet. Thanks a lot for enjoyed Indonesian food.

Hi my dear friend. So nice vlog. Thank u for share. Good luck. 👍🏻from true friend
thank u my friend!
first of all, salute to the guy eating chilly padi with straight face haha !! theres so many balinese suckling pork and some of em are good, i would recommend you try each of em
haha IKR.... i hv no idea how he does it. He loves the pedas happening here! yeah babi guling is gooooooooood stuff
I love seeing you be more of yourself as I catch up to your videos!! I can definitely see the love between you & V! You guys have made me so hungry 😂 im going to go eat now
Edit: btw I love your laugh! It’s contagious c:
say "enak" for good taste, "bagus" is for different situation.
makasih! enak it is!
In Indonesia style typically you eat more rice to compensate the spicy food, hehe, next you should try nasi padang or gado2
we love nasi campur!!! have yet to try gado gado though! we must soon!
Guys, you should try " Gulai Kambing' and "Sate Kambing".... the gravy theres 2 tpye - Peanuts or Black Soya Sause c/w slice chili padi and onion.
oh yeah u def know your stuff! we tried sate kambing already its sooooo good!! i gotta find out what Gulai Kambing is.
Enak sekali martabak terang bulan nya
sedaaaaaap!
The babi guling looks so good !!
Haha it was!!! But we also tried Ibu Oka’s Babi Guling in Ubud n that was also super awesome too! But twice the price lol
Bagus = Good
Enak = Delicious
I really enjoyed your vlog anyway 😀👍
short, sweet n i get your point! lol thanks Fikri 🤗
Enjoying this simple vids 👌🏽 New subs here 👋🏽
Enak is yummy bagus is good haha lavyuuu semangat berkonten…
Lol thanks
Looks delicious 😋
u bet! 😍
Enjoy 😀👍👍👍👍
thank u 😍
thats martabak telor ( telor is egg) thin wrapper with egg filling so good and he's right have to eat it still hot, other wise chewy.
the filling usually ground beef or chicken, a lot the green onion and eggs. eat it with small pickle green chili. other one martabak manis ( sweet batter cake) a lot the margarine, condense milk and other stuff so sweet. I always tell the guy to order it less sweet.
its very difficult to make it. have to have cast iron to cook it. I love the thin one but no very many vendor sells it.
I miss Indonesian food, cant wait to go Jakarta and Bali.
