Hi everyone,
As most of you know, “2:00 AM Paradise Café” was a milestone in my career as a songwriter, producer and performer.
It was a daring thing to do. After nearly a dozen years of pop music success, to dive into creating a jazz album seemed ridiculous. When the press got wind of what I was doing, they rolled their eyes and laughed it off.
The success of the album was sweeter than anything because nobody believed this album could work. Nobody except me!
The cameras followed the making of the album from the first rehearsal until the last take.
It’s quite a ride and I think you’ll find it interesting and emotional. I sure do.

I can only imagine how that arrow hit you right through the chest when she started singing; this surely being one of the highlights of your life because it's evident in this duet and that last bar that you both sing streams to Infinity this is so beautiful and I thank you for sharing the making of it. I don't know if people realize what a gift it is that you share with us... And I have to say Sarah was really into your bluesy piano playing as well as your voice but I could see what she was just zoning out when you were tickling those keys with the blues... Those voices together. Who would’ve thought. I remember the first time hearing Sassy emote the theme to Cactus Flower and was so taken by her smoky stylings. And she matches that performance here on Blue. I would shell out a tidy sum to have the entire recording sessions on video/audio - outtakes and all - for this LP as well as Barry’s If I Should Love Again. I’d watch them on repeat and never grow tired. ❤
This superb song is on one of my all time favourite albums. Fantastic collaboration between Barry and the legendary Sarah Vaughan! Totally awesome, soaring, swooping melodies, and harmonies! 👏

Like a bird her voice encircles his, weaving in & out soaring then dipping. Is this her adlibbing or Sussman's superb dialogue? Musically this is BM at his very best. It is his project yet he graciously allows her full artistic expression. At the they dovetail, their voices blending. This from the team that gave us Copacabana & Harmony & it's beautiful.

Manilow has great taste in music. He's sung with both Ms. Vaughan and Mel Torme and is influenced by jazz greats like Count Basie and Gerry Mulligan. I don't know why he gets hated on so much.
