Hello all,
Welcome to an Over the Borders special, this being our second video to cover this year's Hunter Valley Steamfest. The event is an annually operated event that is centred around the Maitland township. A gathering of steam-powered vehicles turns back time at the local field and railway stations to an era when steam was king. For the event, two steam locomotives were in attendance: veteran locomotive 3526 and freight workhorse 6029. Along with these, three railmotors from the Rail Motor Society in Patterson also came down, shuttling passengers around the area.
Beside the trains, a variety of traction engines and heritage vehicles gathered in the nearby field, all making the venture from across NSW.
In this part we begin with the anticipated Great Train Race, then we take a gander through the rally grounds before sitting back in the CPH railmotors for a return trip to Patterson.
Unfortunately, parts of this video were corrupted due to a faulty storage device. We have aimed to make the video as clean as possible.
We have one final video from the event, which will cover the transfers that the pair of steam engines had to make.

The Burton Automotive Hunter Valley Steamfest is an annual festival held in Maitland that brings together all things steam or heritage. The festival is divided into three main areas: the trains, the festival and the steam rally. Steamfest usually occurs mid-April with the key highlight for the community being the “Great Train Race”.
