The Datejust with jubilee bracelet and white gold bezel is the most classic watch from Rolex. After 15 years having it, it is still looks like a new Datejust. I like it more than ever and will never sell it.

About the countries making watches, France has quite a bit of watchmaking history (Breguet was founded in France and headquartered in Paris from 1775 to 1976), and even nowadays we have a couple of brands that make in-house movements (Yema is one of the notable ones for example).

I am absolutely mesmerized by the sweep of the Seiko Grand Seiko movements.
But after years of dissing Rolex as the wannabes watch.
But I also must confess l just love the look at the Rolex Submariner and the Explorer.
Given the choice between the two brands much as I love the sweep of the GS....I am not a fan of the power indicator.....I would choose the Rolies.

Ford in the US had a similar issue differentiating between its three brand, Ford, Mercury, and Lincoln. They used to say Mercury was a Ford with more chrome. Anyway, to evolve Ford more up market, they finally retired Mercury. It was too hard to differentiate the two brands. It’s got to be more than, oh, a similar quality watch with the same movement, but we won’t use anti reflective coating with this brand. Not that anyone does this (looking at you Swatch brand).

Such a great video. I love the Jubilee bracelet on a smaller watch because it makes it dressier. On a big watch it becomes too much IMO. Buying online is great when you have tried the watch on somewhere and know exactly what you want. However doing it "blindly" is a gamble. You might love it in pics and the specs, but when you put it on it just doesn't vibe. Those can be very expensive mistakes.
The opposite happened to me with the Tudor BB58. I liked it fine in pics but it didn't excite me and I was certainly not understanding the hype around it. I saw it at an AD one day and decided to try it on on a whim and completely fell in love with it and how it felt on my wrist.
Regarding saving up or buy now, is buy the one that makes your heart skip a beat. If you buy something else you will still always be thinking about the one you didn't get.

Jenni sorry need to disagree with u on the quarz Patek… it’s basically notba regular quarz the watch is almost completely mechanical as a fully mechanical only the part that give the power is the battery (insted of barel), ist actually fully serivesble as a fully automatic and that is basically the reason y its so expensive its not just a normal quarz like Casio….(another little cool fact actually the first aquanut was realesed in 1997 and the corrent model it’s actually just the “ second” generation)
Last but not least SUPER Qand A lv it

I have a problem with buying it now. I wanted a Root Beer Submariner and bought one...I also wanted the new Tag Heuer Glass Box Chrono and bought that 2 months later. Fortunately (for me at least) Tag doesn't make a lot of desirable watches outside of a few. Maybe they are turning themselves around though.

Great Q and A. Should not have fielded the money question - but I’m happy for your success w the CZcams channel - many people probably don’t appreciate the effort to create a video (or equipment costs).
Kai is correct about the public not knowing about the amt of automation versus touch labor at Rolex.
But… it’s interesting that many foreign co’s are doing their designs and having fabrication done in SUI. The pt is obvious - there are watch makers available so the excuses about ‘it’s a dying skill’ are hollow. Rolex could boost production before their new factory is complete.

I wish high end watch makers would expand their quartz offerings. It is nice to be able to switch between watches without needing to reset them, especially the date. And some quartz movements feature second hands that make several ticks per second which gives the hand movement a very graceful appearance.

I can't really agree on the conglomeration viewpoints. True, being part of a conglomerate brings along certain responsibilities related to that conglomerate, but there are benefits as well. Take the example of the ALS Odysseus and the JLC dials having the same finishing. Likely they were both made in the same place by the same people, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. It could be that they cheapened out on the ALS, but it's also very possible that the JLC got an upgrade because they were made at ALS.
Moët et Chandon don't make worse champagne because they're a part of LVMH. The LVMH brand gets an image boost because Moët is part of it. Moët gets the benefit of the distribution and advertisement network. Ardbeg and Glenmorangie still make amazing whiskies since becoming part of LVMH.
The same is true for Lagavulin whisky and Ron Zacapa after joining Diageo.

For AD vs Online purchase - I bought my Omega from AD and got 25% discount (well, the watch was already in "holiday special" which attracted my attention to this part of the shop window the first place), and the experience is completely different than buying online. I also need to confess, purely on pictures in the internet I didn't even bother to know this model, and even more - didn't plan to buy any new watch soon, till I saw it - sitting on the shop window, stealing the attention from all the surounding pieces - other Omega's, Zenith, Tudor, Nomos, etc. Purely impulsive but no-regret purchase, which wouldn't ever happen without a brick-and-mortar store.

I like your comment, Jenni. By the end of the day, you can't eat it and be practical, down-to-earth.

I have an Omega Seamaster 300M thats 25 years old….serviced twice. If you’re not in salt water every day, they run forever. And I never really had a problem, I just wanted to check it, get it oiled, like a health checkup….eh eh eh expensive, but better safe than sorry.

Watch groups are definitely going to develop synergies to increase margins on each watch.

Am I looking at the same ALS Odysseus and JLC Polaris as everybody else? I’m not sure how they are saying they look 100% identical?!
Or am I misunderstanding the two of them?
There is no world where I would see a Polaris flash quickly before my eyes and mistaken it for an Odysseus…

Agreed, I don't get it either. Would be nice to get some more details on it.

She didn't say they look identical. They use identical case finishing.

I think she meant a different JLC because they aren't even close. If she did mean just the finishing then I don't really get it, there's only so many finishing techniques

@@heiner71watch it again. Jenni: “The same type of finishing and dial design layout”.
And then again with her husband: “How does it make you feel when your 40K euro Odysseus has the same dial as the 10k euro Jaeger LeCoultre?”
To be clear, I’m neither a fan of the Odysseus nor the Polaris. They’re not bad looking watches but they’re not my cup of tea. I’d choose a dozen watches at that price point over these two.
I just think that if they really believe that these two watches are that similar, they should have really qualified why.
