My favorite scene is when -1 got an Oscar award
@@furious7039 I started screaming in happiness, started to tear up as the theme blasted through the TV and Yamazaki's attempt at English (he did awesome for only having a little bit of time to practice). I hugged my father who got me into Godzilla, and then the rest was history. Never give up on your dreams, because Godzilla pulled through for 70 years and 38 movies, and won an oscar.
I have seen Godzilla Minus One more than 10 times. But I still cannot tell you my favorite scene. I love all of them for their own rights. I loved the scene of the Godzillasaurus on Odo Island, The characters and their relationships with one another, Godzilla being a pure evil creature, and everything else. It is my favorite Godzilla movie right behind the original 1954 film. But my favorite scene was the Ginza attack. Hearing the Godzilla theme nd the Mothra vs. Godzilla theme blast through the theater made me start crying with joy. I wish that Minus One could go back to theaters, because the experience was amazing.
@@ActionFigureFactoryI was also VEEEEERRRRRY HAPPY. When Arnold began to open the envelope I had my fingers crossed whispering please several times, then when he said Godzilla I screamed YES Several times and screamed some more then clapped my hands along with the audience.
For me, It HAS to be when godzilla was about to use his heat ray, everything went completely silent, best moment in history.
This movie can only be described as a MASTERPIECE
I agree
Woke Hollywood could never produce a movie like that. Well done Japan 🇯🇵
@@adamw7411Godzilla is literally one of the most political movies in Japan 💀

DID ANYONE ELSE TEAR UP AND CRY WHILE WATCHING THIS 😪
I'm not the type of person who crys during movies but yes there are a lot of amazing emotional scenes. The part that would have made me cry the most is when the kid thinks that her mother was dead.
Almost
I teared up a few times 😢
Godzilla attacking the engineers in his first form was pure nightmare fuel. No wonder this was the first Godzilla film to earn an Oscar.
I love the novels explanation for why he looks like he does after the bomb its pretty cool
Each time he bit someone, I was shocked because I know his original creators mentioned that he doesn't eat ppl like a regular monster might. I was glad when he kept tossing the ppl away.
Godzilla looks like a pissed off bear in his first form.
@@HyugaBlood881there’s a novelization for Minus One?
@@southtexasangler Yep, and it's written by the film's director/writer, so unlike many novelizations its details carry as much weight as the film itself. :)

Literally dude.
The posture is goofy as hell. Like how people used to think T. Rex would stand in the 1800's. Just awful compared to the Legendary version.
The way Godzilla pursued the boat really give some 'Jaws' chilling vibes.
I think Steven Spielberg said Godzilla was an inspiration for jaws and the director of minus one did homage to jaws in the movie.
@@seoulgt86 We can imagine both Brody and Quint agreed on borrowing a warship, while Hooper preparing a Skype livestream
@@seoulgt86Yep Takashi said he loved Jaw's and that scene was inspired by it.
But they is no Boot/Ship that is big enough for Godzilla :)
That part terrified me

This movie reminded me why I love films so much. It had that magic sauce that money can't buy
One of the best film I've ever watch, period!
The reporters on the rooftop describing what they were seeing with that background music was an absolute masterclass in film making.
Godzilla deserves that Oscar
The atomic breath / black rain scene was pretty damn epic and haunting, pure chills 😲
Felt like watching a third nuke being dropped
And when Koichi cried out... the primal roar of anguish.
Unlike most other Godzilla films, this was the moment when the main character got a clear motivation to defeat Godzilla, even if it meant sacrificing his own life.
I came into this movie blind. No trailers, no reviews, no recommendations, just me and the movie. I was completely blown away by it. One of the best movies I’ve seen in recent memory
Same! My sister wanted to go see a movie and talked me into it. I’ve seen a few of the Godzilla movies but haven’t been the biggest fan. All I knew going in was that it had a freshness rating of 96%. We were absolutely blown away and saw it 3 times in theater.
One of my favourite moments in the movie was watching Sumiko transition from a grief-stricken mother to a sympathetic and kind woman who helped Sukishima and Noriko look after baby Akiko.
We can all agree. The boat chase was awesome first time seeing it.
Honestly... Im 26 been watching godzilla since i was a baby and i swear i have never been scared of godzilla since he fought mothra and ghidora and was still looked at like he was evil and even then he still wasnt that scary. THIS MOVIE made godzilla truly terrifying..... This was by far the greatest godzilla movie ive ever seen i actually cried of joy at the end. But was still devastated. Shin godzilla was another movie that was truly terrifying. This one was worse than i couldve imagined though
I’m 24, same.
AMEN to that!! I'm bloody 36 and Godzilla absolutely frightened me in the cinema!
I'm 28 been a fan since 5 and seen every Movie, This Godzilla forsure frightened me I was shaking cause of this Movie my hype was immeasurable
I'm still hyped on this movie month's later as well.😂
Agreed... Godzillas roar was nothing short of chilling in this movie
For me, Godzilla’s attack on Ginza was my favorite moment from the movie because I have never seen his atomic breadth cause that much damage in a single blast. When I first saw this movie, the entire theater was dead silent when the atomic breadth detonated
Literally a jaw dropping moment. I saw it in color and minus color. Both times the theater was silent in shock.
The blast should have been inserted to Oppenheimer movie... hahaha... This was a much better impact.
Yes the theater I was in was silent too. But I remember hearing a woman's voice in the theater quietly saying "oh my gosh!!...that atomic blast was shocking.
Not even so much the blast itself, but Godzilla's reaction to what he had just done. He stood there almost motionless and seemed to admire his handiwork before letting out that dominance asserting roar. The angle at which that part was shot....beautiful and horrifying.
@@squishymcpeters7569 exactly, like that destruction was his own work of art
Man I cannot wait for this movie to finally get a physical release in the states. I saw it twice in the theaters and I cried both times. I NEED to own this movie.
No.1 moment for me is the Ginza Atomic Breath scene
One of few best Godzilla movies ever made indeed.
😃😁
With 15 million in budget, this movie had no right to be the masterpiece it is. So many things were so perfectly done.
The Ginza attack was terrifying. To see a Godzilla attack up close and at street level. The chaos was stunning.
Yes, especially the way the people reactions were so realistic. Look like they were actual seeing cars and trains tossed around. Then when Godzilla's foot and leg came around the corner, they took off running and screaming. The producers time that so well.
It should have been nominated for best international picture
It should’ve but countries can only put forward one movie nomination for the category and Japan chose a different movie
Godzillasaurus going absolutely haywire on the engineers on Odo Island was my favorite part.
A contrast to the scene from Godzilla vs King Ghidorah.
I just loved this movie so much.
Thank god it won the Oscar for best visual effects! One of the greatest visual effects ever!
Formal Japanese kamikaze pilot Koichi Shikishima had such an amazing character development throughout this movie!
I have been a Godzilla fan since I was a little kid. From watching Godzilla 2000 in theaters until now. Godzilla Minus One might be my favorite Godzilla movie of all time. The action, the story, the characters were all just incredible!!
I grew up on these films and have NEVER been afraid of Godzilla until the minesweeper boat chase scene! My favorite scene and one that legit terrified me.
Best film of 2023!
The BEST Godzilla movie yet!
10 isn't enough to describe it's best moments~
how is that the best godzilla movie? the godzilla movements in this were unbearable. CGI we are used to is WAY better than what they went with. Also, the tram scene, wtf was that XDD
@@S4vonlower than 15 million but want a high cgi like 100 hundred million like disney , now ignorant
@@S4von wtf are you talking about, for its budget this movie's cgi was awesome it even ot an award for the visual effects.. are you blind or just ignorant?
@@S4von In the wise words of Gordon Ramsay- "F**k off back in line..."
@@Kumire_921 explosions, water - great CGI indeed.
But godzilla itself? No, no, no.
Just watched the film, it was so incredible to finally see a Godzilla film made by the ones who brought him to life in the first place. Everything about Godzilla's design in the film was amazing. (Even if his face looked a bit goofy at times, but it adds character) His Atomic Breath was actually breathtaking (terrible pun intended) & terrifying. Koichi & Noriko's relationship was beautifully done, the music was outstanding.
This was is definitely the best Godzilla film I've seen. Although, I'll be honest I haven't seen much of them, just Minus One, 1998 & The MonsterVerse (Please don't compare Minus One & The Monsterverse, I hate it when people do that, both are great & are two completely different styles).
I plan to watch Shin Godzilla because I heard it is one of the best & most terrifying versions of Godzilla. I'll also probably watch some of the og Toho Godzilla movies.
Really wish I got the chance to see this movie in cinemas when it came out here in Ireland. Would've been an incredible experience.
Honestly, Godzilla Minus One is such a beautiful modern masterpiece that there is no one favorite moment. I’ve never felt this many emotions coming from watching a Godzilla movie.
Long live the King of the Monsters.
You know this film is amazing whenever Steven Spielberg watches it 3 times in theaters
I think it’s very interesting how Minus One got popular. Most movies today get popular because of hype and mass marketing. But Minus One got popular in a more retro (and better) way. Its success was mainly due to word of mouth and how people told other people about just how amazing it is. Movies getting success and becoming popular in this fashion isn't as common as it was in the 20th century and stuff. So it's cool how this movie's popularity was spread in this fashion
This movie not getting best picture is an underrated crime
Don't worry, it's not because it was snubbed. It's because Japan had submitted another film for Best Picture before Minus One, called Perfect Days (even though it didn't win, it was nominated for it). GMO wasn't submitted for it, and it's not all that bad; Oppenheimer won Best Picture, and Godzilla won Best Visual Effects against multiple Hollyowood films.
1) Godzillasaurus...SAVAGE!!
2) Godzilla chasing the boat and you get to see his face and the details of its eyes tracking the boat. That was sheer terror!!
3) When Godzilla fired off his atomic breath in the city, the entire theater l was in went silent in awe but out loud l said, "HOLY SH*T!!"
This needs to come to Blu Ray in the United States.
This was such a magnificent picture. I love how we have this Shades of Godzilla dynamic going on between Toho and Legendary right now, where we’re getting this beautiful, dark as hell, serious rumination on the original symbolism he represented and the pressure release of finally confronting the sociological and psychological cost of war and nuclear attacks on the survivors of WW2, as well as a celebration of the goofier, action-packed, badass, just plain fun with a touch of environmental impact dissertation at the same time. Toho is handling the deeper, more terrifying aspects of Big G and what he was designed to invoke, and Hollywood is letting us have the supersized fights, cheesy dialogue, and ridiculously, unapologetically hammy monster movies so many of us grew up watching. They’re reminding us why Godzilla is to be feared, and here we’re able to invoke his more heroic depictions alongside a rogues gallery of allies, rivals, and villains. We’re blessed to get the best of both worlds right now, and I’m eager to see the next chapters in both stories.
I can’t wait to add the Minus One dvd to my Godzilla shelf :)
70 YEARS OF THE KING OF THE MONSTERS.
When I finally saw the original, 1954 'Gojira,' it chilled me to the bone. This version froze me solid. That man's scream was horrific.
It won the Oscar for Best Visual Effects!
it shouldn't have. It's the worst monster on screen visuals i have seen in a long time (because its an animatronic?)
@@i_nameless_i-jgsdf There’s a scene of Godzilla chasing survivors on what amounts to a tugboat that you’d swear was done animatronic, with the monster’s eerie human eyes locked in a gaze just above the ocean’s surface. It looked so bad.
@@S4von
If you're going to trash on a movie with only a $15 million budget, at least get your facts straight. The majority of the movie used CGI, with no source confirming the use of animatronics. And even so, their CGI still looks way more realistic than Hollywood's Godzilla. Ironically, you thought their CGI Godzilla was an animatronic. You are technically admitting how realistic the CGI actually was, lol.
@@i_nameless_i-jgsdfthe guy type on some comments that like the movie and upset that people like it while he can't , he mess up right now some how
@@S4von and the train scene you can see that those are miniatures/"toy trains". But we must consider that this movie had a 15m usd budget,a tenth of Godzilla x Kong
I think you forgot the part that, even though Noriko managed to survive, you left out the part that she's got a radiation scar on her neck, I think, in the exact shape of one of Godzilla's dorsal fins.
A lot fans including me have theorized that if we get a sequel we could possibly see Nariko turn into a female Godzilla/Human hybrid due to the fact the Radiation Scar on her neck looks like one of Godzilla's dorsal fins.
But it's just a theory that may or may not be true it all depends on if the writers and producers at TOHO want to go that route.
@@derrickhaggard true, but let's think about the end of Shin Godzilla, there were monstrous looking humanoid Godzillas spawning from the end of his tail, that right there was something I was looking forward in seeing in a possible sequel, which they chose NOT to do for some dumb reason.
@@pauljordan0203 Same.
Fun fact for those who didn't know: Takashi Yamazaki the director of this film is a big fan of Godzilla, he also featured Godzilla as cameo in "Always: Sunset on Third Street" on 2005 and he is the director of "Godzilla the Ride: Giant Monsters Ultimate Battle" which have same design for Godzilla in this film
Godzilla chasing a boat is like a combination of Jaws and Moby Dick. Just pure, excellent of action and suspense plus when the battleship attack Godzilla. They made a big mistake when even Godzilla punched them back.
My top 3 are Koichi breakdown, ginza attact, and "Is your war finally over?"
I only just realized that the actor for Tachibana also played Sanosuke in the Kenshin live action films.
The actor playing Shikishima also played Seta Soujiro in Rurouni Kenshin.
I went and saw this in theaters a total of three times, and I would gladly go see it some more if I could.
Best Godzilla movie I've seen. Shin Godzilla was my favorite prior to this one.
Honestly the entire movie was beyond exciting and impactful from start to finish. So far this is the second Japanese Godzilla film I've seen in cinemas after the awesome one night showing of Shin Godzilla at Cineworld Edinburgh back in 2018. Can't wait to own a copy of Minus One on Blu-ray when there's an official release date so I can enjoy both Shin Godzilla and Godzilla Minus One again and again.
Same I still have to get Shin Godzilla on DVD or Blu-Ray.
I remember sitting near Yamazaki and Ryunosuke at the U.S. premiere and hearing the host say -1 was his favorite Godzilla film to date. I wasn’t skeptical of it but anticipated what the movie would be about plot-wise.
It was when Godzilla got shot at and then attacked Takao (with the music blaring) that I realized this was a soon to be classic . not only a top tier Godzilla film (the best imo) but a fantastic monster movie in general.
My top favorite scene was when Godzilla used his atomic blast for the 1st time. The whole lead up to it being unleashed was haunting to me. Even though I had seen it in the trailer multiple times, it still got me. It was like a countdown to the end. I literally felt the terror the actors were portraying. Then, the acceptance of the inevitable. The whole theater was silent. The whole movie, in my opinion, was done as perfect as one can get.
Navy Engineers to be exact and those volunteers aren't just civilians but veterans. Navy Vets to be exact. This was one of the best movies I watched for a very long while. The best scene for me was when Godzilla went past under a battle cruiser with that terrifying Silhouette. When I saw that I was like, "WTF?!"
This movie is how you add and make humans matter in a monster movie. Learn something Hollywood.
When Godzilla was about to deliver another heat ray to the ships... That scene.... that scene made me feel so hopeless and powerless... exactly what Godzilla as a metaphor aims to evoke. I love Legendary's take on our fave kaiju but, the Japanese ones like Minus One, Shin and the original 1954 film really shows what Godzilla really stands to remind us
That was great editing that I did not notice in the theaters that Koichi ejected just before the plane slammed into Godzilla's mouth. Only watching it again here can you notice the brief moment before of him ejecting before they cut away from the scene.
🏆💥🔥2023 is the year for *Oppenheimer* and *Godzilla Minus One* !!!! 🔥💥🏆
The scene that got my heart pumping was when the boats came charging towards Godzilla and you can hear the theme song playing. I was internally screaming cheering the boat crew.
Godzilla’s attack on Gina was my favorite moment! I was in awe of the scale comparison between him, the humans, and the city. Accompanied with the classic Godzilla theme, the intense atmosphere, and the spectacular display of the Atomic Breath/Ray, that sequence alone was worth seeing on the big screen!
One of the best Godzilla movies I've seen. Period
The entire move is amazing; it's hard to pick just 10 moments. 🎉

One of the best Godzilla movies ever made!👍👍
best moments the whole film there you go
Kohichi message to call engeener is smart cuz if he requested or begged guy wouldn't show up but he messaged like " All died on island cuz of you" Which made him visit kohichi in anger 😂
This movie was pretty fun to watch, never really been a fan of kaiju movies but the 2016 one and this were by far the best ones.
"Godzilla attacks Ginza" should be #1. The atomic breath was breathtaking!
Just finished watching this on Netflix. Saddest Godzilla movie I ever watched, but it was a good movie. 😔
Great movie. This is the proper remake, replacement of the first one from 1950s for years to come
I HAVE TO SAY THIS IS IN MY TOP 2 GODZILLA MOVIES OF ALL TIME.I AM SO GETTING THIS ON BLUE RAY-I SAW THIS IN THE THEATER AND I WAS BLOWN AWAY.NOT ONLY DOES THIS MOVIE HAS A DEEP DRAMA THAT WILL GRAB U,GODZILLA APPEARENCE WAS THE ICING ON THE CAKE-HOLLYWOOD TAKE NOTICE.THIS IS HOW U CAN MAKE A GREAT FILM ON A BUDGET OF 15 MILLION DOLLARS.A TRUE GODZILLA FILM THAT IS A MUST SEE FOR ANY GODZILLA FAN.

Wow that looks very interesting.
The attack on Ginza was pure malevolent destruction! Incredible! I cared about every single character.
The moment when that kaiju did the atomic breathe to destroy takao's sHip

Godzilla Minus One has so many great moments. Definitely one of the best Godzilla movies ever made and easily the best movie of 2023.
Masterpiece 💪
Anybody have a movie site where i can watch the full movie?
Hollywood: You can't make a Godzilla movie for less than $15 million!
Toho: Hold my Sapporo...
So many good moments. The atomic blast is better than in Oppenheimer. The Godzilla theme on the attacks...
Great movie
My favorite part was when the G man took on the battleship and destroyed it like it was nothing.
10 out of 10!
The last atomic breath he does when the camera pans from the side to the front is absolutely amazing.
My favorite moment happened between the start and the end.
Masterpiece
You are killing me here !!! Want it on Blu-ray now !!!!!!

So many great scenes in this film. I can’t possibly name a fave.😎
This movie was so perfect I have no scene you touched every point I made at the movie theater this movie deserves more recognition than Kong x godzilla
Ugh! 😩 my feelings! Loved this movie! Arigato Toho !❤️
The movie was OK. What I liked most was the sub plot of the “family dynamic” and how to cope, the score was SICK and so was Godzilla himself. It was the best looking Godzilla ever
"We're gonna need a bigger boat." "A bigger boat? WHAT bigger boat? The only boat big enough for Godzilla's the Yamato, AND IT'S BEEN SUNK!!!"
For me Godzilla's Heat Ray scene in Ginza is probably the best scene from Godzilla Minus One (2023).
my top moments if I can't say "the whole dang thing"
3 The boat chase, it had everything right, the terror, the Jaws homage when shooting the mine in the mouth (I commented in theaters "Smile you son of a b*tch!"), and Takao's last stand.
2 The final battle, as someone who loves steam and steel naval history, seeing both Yukikaze and Hibiki in the spotlight (and with historically accurate plot armor levels) made me extremely excited.
1 Ginza, from the big guy's continued rivalry with trains, the news report so similar to one in the original, and the atomic breath that really made you feel the atomic part. Even if Noriko and Koichi weren't there, it'd have been unmatched in weight, G-1 is the only Godzilla where you don't even want to be in the same general area as the big guy when he's mad (even more so then in GKotM)
Number one, all of it
buying this movie its so good.
This Godzilla would even make "Shin Godzilla" be scared to face off.
Kenji Noda, the man that you are…
His speech is one of my favorites in film in general.
"Live."
Easily the best moment, its not even close
When Mr. Tachibana tells him to "Live" I got teared up. He was the only person who could have changed his mind with his forgiveness.
You forgot to mention the black mark on Noriko’s neck.
The G-cell

I pity to imagine what’ll become of her if something really bad or horrible or worse happens.
@@user-jr8lm8pv5g Me and most fans have theorized that because of that mark Noriko could possibly turn into a female Godzilla/Human Hybrid.
And yes Kaiju/Human hybrids/humanoid Kaiju are a thing in this long-running series with the tragic main villainess of Godzilla vs. Biollante Biollante herself being a Kaiju/Human hybrid being created from the fusion of Rose DNA, the DNA of the deceased Erica Shimazawa, and G-Cells, and the humanoid Kaiju figures trying to come out of Shin Godzilla's tail when this version of Godzilla was frozen solid.
@@derrickhaggard
When you said “Humanoid Kaiju” I would’ve thought you were referring to the word “Kaijin”, like the ones usually seen in the Kamen Rider series or the Super Sentai/Power Rangers series.
@@user-jr8lm8pv5g To an extent I was. But this is something completely different.
