I remember recording my grandmothers life on a little Dictaphone many moons ago. She told the story of the red army in Berlin. She said most of the soldier's could only say 2 words "sich bücken!" (Bend over). She chose to block it out but said she came out unscathed because she did what she was ordered to do. Other women weren't so lucky.

Whatever atrocities were committed by American soldiers pale in comparison to those of the Russians and Germans. I have a German friend who was born near Dresden in October 1940. His parents were farmers and Hitler instructed soldiers who were farmers to return to the land and leave the army.
In 1945 Gert's parents were at the theatre the night Dresden was bombed and fortunately for them left immediately. The Russians arrived and took all the livestock something they repeated several times. They took it turns to rape Gert's Mother whilst his Father was forced to watch with a gun to his head. She got pregnant several times but fortunately they knew doctors in Dresden and the pregnancies were terminated. Gert's Mother never referred to this time but relatives told him of her ordeal details of which he shared with me.
In about 1949 they had to escape in a hurry and went to West Berlin but although they did not live to see it Gert had the farm returned to him after the fall of the Berlin Wall.

Regarding French women, I had always taken phrase "Cavorting with the enemy" to mean women merely dated Germans and not brothel workers and other sex workers. It makes me feel even worse.
I have read Anthony Beevor's book Berlin 1945, and I can tell you it's definitely not light bedtime reading. It's unbelievable what kind of horrors people are capable of.
However, I recommend reading Beevor's other book, Stalingrad, before Berlin 1945, as it may provide a better understanding of why the Russians resorted to such terrible war crimes during the capture of Berlin.

Surely because of a social outcome to their own benefit and then like humans all do, we adapt to everything. When your later years arrive then you begin to ponder on your actions. Too late by then. So for people like myself I'd probably see myself doing some things like that if someone made my loved ones disappear or something but targeting the responsible people. I have always wondered how the war worked have gone without Russia being attacked and lives of all their men and women soldiers being given how it would have turned out..bless all that lost their lives.
The brothels the allies had likely only allowed white male soldiers access. This would increase incidents of black male soldiers taking advantage of female civilians in the warzones since they were deprived access to the brothels. There was also probably false accusations and convictions as well due to racism.
War is a system where the bad of society are rewarded when they express themselves onto the enemy. The worst people survive and even thrive in this system. Its pretty common that after war, many veterans who engaged in these inmoral activities end up in organized crime and continue their illegal and immoral rackets. The same people you might habe labelled heroes for killing the enemy.

About a beautiful pro jew German..she was comfortable with her own apartment and shop..but she couldn't turn against her friends or denounce what she believed was right and ended up in a concentration camp..I had to put the book down several times..it was so horrifying.
As I read I admired her strength..knowing I probably would have stayed in my comfort zone...yet..if she had..when the Red Army took Berlin..her apt and shop would have been destroyed and her fate may have been one she may not have survived.. even if these women could survive physically..how could they have survived emotionally and mentally especially as their families turned against them..
this kind of thing is never acceptable I dont care what nation they are from or what their politics are. I guess this is what happens when you have lots of conscripts who are very far from being professional soldiers, and have no desire to ever be professional soldiers.

That's your opinion. My mother lived through the war as did most of my relatives, some were even POWs. My father's first family was "exterminated" in Poland. My father-in-law fought in the French Resistance. My mother suffered the rest of her life from what we call today PTSD (she was a military nurse). My sons grandfather-in-law lived by Aushwitz as a child. My brother's in- laws were Romas who fled. So I heard first hand counts.
I had several female German clients in the past who survived the war as teenagers and spoke of the rapes even impregnated by the Russians and the fact that there were few young men (German) left to marry and several ended up marrying much older men who raised those children of rape, and became widowed young because of the age difference.
It was known about the rapes, and I knew about the war autrocities as a youth! Black and white documentaries of actual footage of the war autrocities were on TV every week when I was a child/youth (1960's).
