    I love oil paints they are amazing, can be used as a simple wash, filters, tinting, total coverage, blending etc... A good while ago I painted up some Knight Models Batman stuff I painted Black Mask half in acrylics and finished off with oils and wow blending was insanly easy and it made the bases look insane (the model had a full base with ground, a chair for the victims, tools to use on them nice guy really) but wow

      @@NuHue totally agree they are also very easy to use just getting over the little bit of fear you might have, and hell if you mess it up you can clean everything off with no issues very fast.

    Oh this is fantastic, so glad I found this. Subbed! I want to try to use oils more in my mini painting (right now I am just using oil washes). I see you use the same brush. I remember someone telling me for oil, a second brush should be available that is bone dry and that one is used for blending. Could you comment on that? Thank you

    • @NuHue
      @NuHue  Před rokem +2

      Thank you Andrei! I'm glad you found us!
      I would certainly say give it a try! If you are concerned just try doing a single colour with a blend to begin with, armour panels are surprisingly easy!
      Yes, you can have a second brush on hand, at times this would be easier if you are in between adding more colour and need to blend right away, the only issue I find with having an extra brush at hand is, usually the extra brush is dry and the moment you start to blend you will need to clean the brush off after every blend otherwise you start to contaminate the next part of the blending. So for myself, its just easier to maintain using the same brush and utilising a piece of tissue to quickly clean the brush back down. at 03:24 on the right hand side, you will see the method used to clean the brush.
      Another little reason I mostly like to maintain a single brush is its easier for myself to keep hold of one brush rather than having to swap and find the right grip again! Especially with finnicky small detailed spots, the less stress the better!

    • @NuHue

      I would have to disagree with you here, beginners can easily get stuck into oils! not an entire model, but certainly get using them!

    • @kaicmma
      @kaicmma Před rokem +1

      @@NuHue i agree with you boss. I would consider myself a beginner and i use oils for landscape and bits, i do find myself using too much oil and making it hard to keep blending wet on wet. Dragging colors across the model, just to go back and touch up. But not a whole model in oil

    • @NuHue
      @NuHue  Před rokem

      @@kaicmma Are you going in with the oils too thick? I guess with landscapes, you almost want to get those sharp, harsh blends to simulate texture?
      A touch up with oils sure does beat needing to touch up a scuffed, dried acrylic blend! I've been in that boat one too many times.

    • @kaicmma
      @kaicmma Před rokem +1

      @@NuHue i think my oils are too thick, should i thin with mineral spirits or odorless thinner for models?

    • @NuHue
      @NuHue  Před rokem +1

      @@kaicmma Unless you are going for a wash, I wouldn't thin the oils down with mineral spirits, you will forever be fighting with the paint to stay in one spot and the spirits will also want to lift any other paint pigments it come into contact with! I use Winsor & Newton Liquin Original, the paint stays right where you put it and it speeds up the dry time!

    Uber nice! the only advantage of acrylics over oils for me is just their prices... super cheap to have a good color selection but such a pain in the a** when it comes to paint details (for me)
