    For people who did not get good matric marks, do a statistics course at a university that offers actuarial science like UK, UCT and wits. In the second, you can change your degree to actuarial science if you pass well. If you do not, you can still write some actuarial exams with the IFoA while studying your degree. If you think the workload is too much, u can write the exams after finishing the degree. The entrance requirement to write the actuarial exams is a mathematical degree, if you have not finished the degree, you need to write an entrance exam in statistics or financial mathematics. You can get credited and be cleared for these and more exams if you did a similar course in university

    Really enjoyed the interview, Actuarial Science is one of those fields that most people are not familiar with. Thank you for sharing. The other cliché is that most Actuaries are nerdish, but Kelefilwe has such an amazing personality. Love your work

      Actuarial Science is still a scarce and sought after skill so I doubt it will be difficult especially at insurance organisations. The world is your oyster especially if you do well. All the best Richard!

      @coolanathi  Před 3 lety

      Hi Tshwaro, by computer sciences, are you asking if you need to be able to use a computer? If so, yes, a lot of number crunching and statistics.

    • @nilesc9184
      @nilesc9184 Před 3 lety

      In my country being fluent in SQL, VBA, R and Python really gives you an edge in landing actuarial roles currently. My advice is yes, get exposed in programming but not necessarily the whole degree. Get your hands on financial modelling and data analytics (hints: other professional roles like accounting and finance also needed that, no escape)

    • @nkosinathilinda904
      @nkosinathilinda904 Před 3 lety +3

      Yes, both replies are correct. You do need to be familiar with how computers work and how to use different software packages. The university programme you're in here in South Africa will give you all those skills as a package, you don't need to know how to program beforehand, you'll be taught all that. I studied at UP for reference.
