How do you determine your color mixtures? Especially in the shadow stage near the end.

Please can you better explain to me how you have obtained dark colors of the apple? In particular the grey is only addett to the tone in light or even in the shadow part of apple? Thank very much. I'm sorry my english is very band.
Yes, the gray color is also in the shadow area of the apple. But only a thin translucent layer is applied so that the umber underpainting shines through.
