In NZ, beyond the exemption process (which is very involved and lengthy) where we have to provide detailed information of how we will provide an education that is 'as good as' that they would receive at school; we don't have to provide any ongoing evidence of their learning such as through testing or portfolios... Once we have had our application accepted, we are pretty much left to it. Yet I still have these same fears. I think these fears are often centered around our beliefs of what our kids 'should' know, what skills are important in life and needing assurance that they will thrive in life and be able to 'fit in' to a society and system that values very specific acedemic goals. The problem is that for so many of us our beliefs around this are steeped in our own upbringing and schooling experience and the fact we are surrounded by others who choose this 'normal' well trodden path. I think part of letting go of these fears is acknowledging where they come from and trusting what we know at a heart level... We know our kids best, how they learn and what skills they need in life. You are so right about aligning our homeschooling goals with our expectations and have shone a light for me about the fact my expectations are still clinging to societies expectations of what my kids should know and by what age, while my goals and reasons for homeschooling are very much centered around following my children's strengths and interests, taking advantage of all the opportunities and freedoms we have to experience life and ENJOYING our time together. Expectations and goals quite at odds! I've realised though that part of coming to a place of trust and confidence in what we are doing... and that it's enough is also having self compassion and awareness that these beliefs and fears are deep seated and conditioned and to give myself time and grace to let it all unfold.

Thank you from my corner of the USA heartland! This was just what I needed to hear today. I am so grateful to have stumbled across your channel! As a homeschool/adoptive/special-needs mom the question "Am I doing enough?" is all too familiar. Thank you for your practical and actionable suggestions to deal with it!

Great video! Thank you! I have been thinking this lately, it’s so hard to get the balance between academic work and all the things I want to to teach my kids, gardening, cooking, life skills. I always find myself thinking have they learnt enough academically this year? I’m new to homeschooling this year and finding it hard to juggle my 3 kids homeschooling and my 1year old also. I love your videos so I can see what a 3 plus year homeschool mum thinks about and how you make it work. I like the kids work that you show also, gives me an idea of things we can do. 😊
