    Wow def got emotional towards the end. My son goes to a public school and because I know he has ADHD I have been considering home schooling my son to work with him more one on one and look up tips and ways to help him be himself without so much restriction. It’s been hard to watch him struggle and having his teachers telling me he might be behind because he cannot focus or comprehend. Watching this encouraged me to follow through with home schooling and dealing with ADHD in a different light.

    Just finding your channel and I have to say all this tips are so good!! I’m gearing up for our 2nd year of homeschooling after a rough first year. I found last year starting later in the morning after some movement helped so much and snacks are such a crucial part of our day. I love the tip about dried fruit (or gum even) I will have to try that. Interest led learning is something I’m also trying to incorporate more this year. My son loves science and while it’s not my favorite I’m trying to add more science type read alouds or projects to keep him engaged.

      Thanks so much Amanda, Sounds like you are doing exactly what they need right now. Deschooling really allowed me to observe and connect with my children after taking them out of the system. ❤️

    Amazing information! This has been very informative and I can’t wait to implement this with my ADHD + Dyslexic 10 y/o. She has been going to public school pre-K-recently and this coming school year will be our first year homeschooling. She’s going into the 5th grade and really has done an absolute wonderful job the past few years public schooling despite her learning differences. Her school and teacher have been amazing in helping us as her parents, doctors and therapists in creating and working her IEP plan. She’s come so far and is actually excelling academically. Unfortunately tho, we are a military family and will be relocating to a new state. I’ve been considering homeschooling for some time and rather than putting her in a new public school, I really think homeschooling would be more beneficial to her and this video just gives me so much hope that I am on the right path with her and it can actually be done successfully. Thank you so much!

    Hi there Tiffany, great video, I can definitely relate to the tips you have use, as I myself have inattentive type ADHD! I have a 2 year old daughter, and I’m really into the idea of homeschooling her, just not sure if it would be easy to organize a steady group of other children to play and do things with in our city.

      Hi Natalia! Thanks so much for watching! I recommend looking for homeschooling groups now, maybe something outdoors like wild and free that just focus on the nature play. There’s usually one already organised and it’s never too early to start with outdoors!

    I've been looking for information about homeschooling because I'm considering it with my children. I was diagnosed last year at 39. I have lived all my life trying to "FIX" myself. Before releasing what's going on, I tried to fix my children as well, trying to make them fit in a system that I don't understand (literally, I was born in Italy and did all my school year there, but I'm also an Australian citizen and I've been struggling so much to understand school here, so It's been even more challenging for us) a system that doesn't take into consideration Neurodiversity in so many ways. Thank you so much for this video; it made me emotional and more determined to help my children have an environment where they can flourish.

    Hello ! Loved your tips, but it was so hard to follow your video because I have ADHD and there was nothing written. It would have been much easier for me if one or more of these things where present :
    - a page between tips with the tip written down
    - subtittles
    - a small summary of the tip (before, while or after the tip)
    - a few words of what you were talking about next to you
    I know it requires a lot of editing (so a lot more work)
    Thanks for taking the time to read this comment

      We do many unit studies Blossom and root are our favourite curriculum for that kind of approach to learning.

    I would love to dive into something my son is interested in. I try to get his input and he says he’s not interested in learning anything so I’m going to have to pick things myself for a while. I’m not sure what to pick though. He’s 10. We have a lot of struggles with getting things done. We are on year two of homeschool. It’s so hard to not get frustrated when it’s taking him two hours to complete 10-12 math problems (yes I give breaks but not so much that it should take two hours 😩)

    • @HinterlifeHomeschool
      @HinterlifeHomeschool  Před 6 měsíci +1

      I understand, hang in there you’re doing great! A couple strategies I use is I take my kids out for milkshakes and we chat about what they’re interested in ( not what they want to learn) this helps take the pressure off. I then keep interested in those things with my kids, I ask questions to learn more and ask if they can teach me too. Eventually I find something they need help with and that’s where I focus. Explaining how learning this can make you better at the thing you’re interested in. I build on that! The math must be frustrating for your son too! I’d start a discussion around this and decide on an amount of time you’re both happy to spend on math. Put a quiet visual timer on. Offer rewards to keep him motivated, don’t expect him to get it all done in the time allocated, instead start cheering him on to get as much as he can in that time done. See if he improves with these changes. If he’s not, drop down a grade in the work. See if that makes a difference. I hope this helps!

    How do you approach homeschooling as a parent who has ADHD undiagnosed?? What about older children secondary school age? WHERE DO I START???

    • @HinterlifeHomeschool
      @HinterlifeHomeschool  Před rokem +1

      I start with the simplest plan for everyone, once we can achieve that we add a little to it and go from there. That’s what works for us. ( I have ADHD myself, so I can understand the struggle)

    Hi my daughter was diagnosed with ADHD and ODD 2 months ago and she is struggling in public school. she has an EIP and it helped her in her speech but she is now struggling with reading specially in blending sounds. What can I do to help her learn to read and what type of school settings can help her in public school . I an a single mom and I have to work.

      @HinterlifeHomeschool  Před 6 měsíci

      Thanks for watching! I would be reaching out to her teacher to discuss further but programs like all about reading have been incredibly helpful for my family. Speech therapy can also be incredibly helpful ( a good speech therapist makes sessions fun!)

    Do your kids engage in schoolwork best in the mornings or afternoons?

    • @HinterlifeHomeschool
      @HinterlifeHomeschool  Před rokem

      A bit if both! My daughter is an early riser and my son needs his sleep so he often does activities and projects in the lunch /afternoon time.
