Apart from the obvious horror here of poor Brittany, I find it sad that the family asked a few TV stations if they would put a pic of Brittany Missing on TV, they were turned down. How could they say no? It's a missing child, FFS. I know time is money and all that but what's a few seconds to them when there's a child life at stake. What if it was one of their kids.. I just find it sad that they couldn't even do that when they have all the know-how at their fingertips. It probably wouldn't have helped in this case but still, to say no....

Saying that gives people a pass. It's called being naive. I was born in the 90s...and my mother was molested and rapped...never let me go anywhere. I walked home from school when I was 15 and 16...she walked me to school everyday or drive me other than that. When I was 17 I took the bus home and had a phone with my and she always checked in. She never had contact with her mother. I feel people trust more than they should and are very ignorant of dangers just because "it's never happened or been a concern before". For example:
Her fingerprints, the uncle's fingerprints and Britanny's blood were found on a cup in the car.
She claimed Brittany had a nosebleed when the grandma said she didnt. (Possibly in order to cover up the fact that her blood was in the car)
Changing her story and lying about where they went as the trial went on in order to 'protect her brother
    '
And overall shes rather cold about the whole thing

I'm sickened by the mom. Yes, I do understand she's suffered a horrendous loss, something no parent should ever go through, but she's betrayed her daughter! How do you stick up and testify in favor of the man who killed ur baby? If Brittany were alive and told her mother that good ole uncle had molested her, who's side would mommy dearest have taken? I think we know. If she can't even stand up for her own child, who's not here to defend or speak for herself anymore, that screams volumes in my book.

This a great example of the old axiom, "Rich people get away with murder". Because had this family been rich, the prosecutor never would have filed the charges with the evidence they had because they would have known that an elite team of defense lawyers would have beaten it. It WOULD have been enough If the victim and the suspect would have been strangers, but the mere fact that the girl frequented that car, sometimes went to work w/the uncle, and had the lingering doubt of the "bloody nose" on that day, made it insufficient.

Stunned that milka said he was tired and wanted to go home. If I was the FBI agent, I would have pressed on. That FBI agent was not fit in his role.
Allowing an 11 year old to go out with friends to a park was a big mistake. I would have gone along. Plus, why didn't she drive to the park to check if her daughter was still there (after visiting Pam) ? She was truly unfit to be a mom. No wonder she had a second marriage. I only hope her 2nd husband notice her behaviour and divorce her as well.
How can Brittany's mother change her story ? For milka to say he had a vision, it's all a lie. Holy religious people have the gift of visions.
I knew straight away that milka was the culprit. Totally disgusted - how can an uncle rape and murder his own niece. He deserved the death penalty.

The mother is a piece of work for sure. Very strange. As far as her changing her story, I can only assume it was to protect her brother, knowing deep down he did it. And the dopey vision story? www.chicagotribune.com/news/ct-xpm-2004-08-13-0408130349-story.html
NOPE. Here's an article which details that the brother got a reduced sentence on appeal b/c the appellate court thought the 'sentence was too harsh'. I honestly don't know how a sentence for raping & murdering your own 11 year old niece can be 'too harsh' but there you have it. At the sentencing, the mother was still proclaiming her brother's innocence, saying she thought he should be out 'running free'. If the FBI hadn't come up with the blood evidence in the car, the cup Brittney was carrying, or the fibers inside her jeans, I'd be tempted to think the police coerced the 'vision statement' out of the brother. As it is, did they magically make the cup appear in his car? HOW does the mother explain the cup in the car with Brittney's blood & fingerprints on it, with the mother's fingerprints on it? THAT should be enough to tell the mother that her brother did it. It's hard to see a mother not stand up for her child, but as a child abuse investigator at one point in my career, I saw this MANY times. A mother, or even an entire family, fail to protect the child, siding with the abuser. Some people are far more dysfunctional than we can ever imagine, & they're too unhealthy to face the abuse in their own family b/c there's so much shame & secrecy. The fact that the mother/brother's entire family 'sided' against Brittney tells me there's more abuse than just this murder. That even Brittney's maternal grandmother made up a story about a nosebleed to cover up the fact that Brittney's blood was in the car? SHE knows about more crimes than just this murder, & she's good at hiding abuse. Mark my words.
