- This R&B singer has been making music for the last decade, and stopped by Sway in the Morning to talk about it.
"R&B is a lane that is wide open," says Joe, on his thoughts of the current state of R&B. He also weighs in on other artists making rhythm & blues like Frank Ocean, Chris Brown and The Weeknd. When The Dream was brought up in conversation, he mentioned that he "gets in his own way, [giving] his best music away."
Joe took questions from Citizens who called in and opened up on his thoughts on cheating and staying committed -- admitting that his longest relationship lasted 2 years.

If you dress for success you open yourself up for all kind of opportunities. That was my moment with Joe 😊 Then I saw him at the gym 8 years later but didn’t want to disturb him and ask for an autograph or picture. My ex was like there’s Joe and I said where and he’s like damn! Men be jealous over R&B singers. Every guy that I date, (the black guys, lol) they be jealous of the men I listen to.

I like Joe and all, but I wasn't the biggest fan. For 90's male r&b, my go-to's were Brian McKnight, Maxwell and Eric Benet. I actually bought Joe's second and third albums. Joe was always just ok for me. There's really nothing vastly different about any of them. Most can sing better than the next, but that's as far as it goes. He got nice exposure when he was with Lip-Sync. R&B is dead. It's all about what you consider r&b though. People think Chris Brown is r&b. For me, r&b is SINGING. Johnny Gill, Luther Vandross, Peabo Bryson and guys like that.
