    Adding the astroid belt, the Kniper belt, and the Oort cloud and the Solar System really is big. But it's small compared to the whole Milky Way Galaxy.

    When I finally learned about the relative sizes and distances of objects in astronomy class, it really blew my mind. Our planet and others are basically specs of dust in a mostly empty vacuum.

For example, you can observe a mountain range on Earth, calculate how many times the circumference of Earth is longer than it, watch (cautiously!) how small the Sun looks in the sky, and visualize that Earth has a diameter of less than a hundredth of the one of the Sun.

    one exercise I fondly remember from middle school was to draw the solar system to scale on a roll of adding machine paper, we each rolled out our own roll in the schoolyard and plotted the distances and diameters, it was a real mindblower for a 12 year old,

    Space is the most amazing thing and the vastness of it just blows my mind and all I want to do is explore it but I know I never will but I do hope our hive finds a way to eventually explore the solar system and all through the galaxy and into the universe and beyond.

      Anand Kumar I hope you are right, that would be amazing. I’m pretty much an atheist because most the religious doctrine I grew up with seem to just make no sense with what we know now, but I’m not a die hard no it all. I’d love to know there is more and I’m always open minded listening to all aspects. It’s hard to believe but my brain can’t understand the cosmos at that level. I hope to see you one day visiting the universe and I will hat and had say you are correct and be thankful for it
