- Once you've got your plot all in line, it's time for the next editing challenge: line editing. Rather than looking at the plot in broad strokes, now it's time to bring out a microscope and start fine-tuning every single word. Some authors love this detailed focused editing, others feel out of their depths and are more comfortable working with plot or character. Today we're talking about how to approach the line editing process, including what to look for, different editing methods, and a few line editing tips!

Aman, I deeply think line editing is the blatant tool I need
I want to add line editing to my editorial services business and this was extremely helpful, thank you and I will be subscribing to this channel.
I’m writing my first book and always listening to your vids/advice. So great! The only problem is, I’m always like: this is the cutest girl I’ve ever seen🥰😍🥰😍🥰
These videos are well-timed for me, because I’m about to finish the first draft of my current book by the beginning of June
I love the live examples in your videos. They help me much more than explanations alone. Thanks!
Great video! I found an alternate technique to printing! I use my Kindle Fire, and use voice-to-text notes, and some typing. It both simulates reading a book and NOT being able to edit as you read.
I fell under my favorite oak tree in the rain, while students ran for cover to the coffee shop nearby. Thick clouds rolled in warning me of a storm, but I had to sit and catch my breath after my ridiculous train ride. Then there he was--Bill! More irritating than the rain! rushing not far enough away from me, his rain jacket working overtime while its zippers jangled like him. I hid my face under my collar, then rummaged for my hat to hide as much of me as possible from old milling Bill.
Huge fan of your stuff. Thanks again for helping me become less and less of a crappy writer with every video :)
Finally! What I was looking for
Great video
The templating for the "watch next" bounding boxes needs to be updated. It has been offset vertically by about 200px for quite a while. Happens on every video, I tested it in multiple browsers and devices to make sure it wasn't on my end. An example can be found at 19:08
Thank you......for such a great video
Love from INDIA ....🙏🏻
Veramente sei bravissima ho imparato tanto da te.
I’m Italian, but I write in English… so I have no one around me I can show my work or ask for feedback 😅
U can ask anyone from author community
I really like the mark-up + edit 2 drafts for the price of 1 around 9:00. I find myself getting lost in the manuscript, constantly trying to improve a paragraph, sentence, word... I think I'd make more progress if I'd just mark it up with a critical eye, then come back through an entire scene, reviewing all my marks, thinking of the best way to incorporate changes into the whole, then doing them all at once. Will give this a try! (You can always print to PDF and then mark up on computer so you don't kill trees ;) )
Thanks ... Greetings from Colombia The Venezuelan Immigrant writer 🌎
Very nice...Editing ...difficult
I think i am a good plotter so my developmental edit should not take that long (hopefully 😂) but line edit is going to be intense
I cant find the link to the dialogue formatting.
When I edit my text to make it consistent, logical, free from repetition, and grammatically correct etc, I find all my characters end up sounding the same. Are you meant to edit dialogue differently to narrative?
if your character’s voice is diluted when you tighten your prose, i don’t think they had a voice in the first place - or at least not a strong one. while there might be some exceptions, i would generally just advise taking the time to cultivate a stronger character voice.
That would be CircumLOCUTION, not CircumLOCATION, which is a great word, but it's wrong. From the Latin (which I learned) circum = around and locutare, meaning speak. So "circumlocution" actually means "many words where fewer would do," a polite way of saying "to be evasive."
Hi Shaelin
Busy ICUs.
Don’t cut the “but”! That sounds painful!!
......I’ll show myself out
I like these videos, but why does she say "process" with British pronunciation?
I'm Canadian and that's how it's pronounced where I live :)
@@Reedsy Ooooh, I just thought you were a pretentious American, sorry.
My editors can do the other drafts. 😑
Hiring an editor is definitely a good idea, but you can lower your editing costs by doing more editing yourself first!
I edit what I can.
