I never realized that the legacy Hornets were capable of this. I've seen the FA-18s numerous times at airshows and not once did I see them perform aerobatics like this. Kudos to the Finns for showing this jets long hidden potential.

Zak Jansen The moose tend to fly nap of the earth, making them hard targets.
Why do we have an airforce? Three reasons I expect:
      1. We have a couple dozen attack jets so we can contribute a token number of bombing sorties to any NATO effort.
      2. We need lots of cargo jets to for the support and logistics missions Canada often takes on. There’s more to an Air Force than attack and fighter jets; Canada does very well with the less glamorous air missions.
      3. We have to be able to intercept Russian planes coming over the Arctic. Even if that capability is never called on, a country has to be able to defend its own borders or it isn’t really a country.

Nobody ever said the Hornet can't do this. The aircraft normally has software limitations on AOA and control deflection at certain angles and speeds. The whole point here is that the Finnish Demonstration Team disabled these "safety features" and put everything into the hands of the pilot. For a highly trained and experienced pilot this is fine in a sterile air show environment. In combat, it is nice to have the software keeping you from getting into trouble.

Since one way to do your national service is to become a pro fighter pilot, Finnish Air Force has had every year tens of thousands of candidates from where to pick the best of the best. This was the recipe for success in WW2 and still stands unchanged today.
In WW2 The Soviet Strategical Air Force failed to destroy Helsinki, Soviet fighter pilots were far inferior with often better (American) equipment and at the same time 1/3 of Finnish pilots were Aces and still today Finland has the highest number of Aces per capita.

Ok time to start DCS World :). Love this plane and a nice display, sadly lots of clouds this time.

Don't get me wrong, I love the Blue Angels, but seeing a display that showcases the aircrafts potential instead of the pilot is where it's at.

The commentator says "Draken and MiG-23". No Sir, it was the 21bis, and that was a Mach 2.2 hot rod. Horrible in turning furballs but so fast. You could tell the cockpit carved in there was something of an afterthought, maybe the delta wing too. :D
(Russian sources say it was 2.4 in a shallow dive, and a modified version with the intake cone going further forward to inhibit the intake pressure hit 2.7 before rivets started flying, but that's anecdotes. Wish they publish their stuff someday.)
