What Cage is BEST for a Budgie / Parakeet

  • You should look at 6 different categories when you are trying to find the best cage for your budgies.
Size, Design, Placement, Features, Bars spacing and Quality.
    Amazon links:
    My preferred cages:
    US: amzn.to/31yGzm2
    amzn.to/2yxC1zM
    amzn.to/2ZsbzDR
    amzn.to/2ZuVjSg
    UK: amzn.to/2n8uiWP
    amzn.to/2nR8a3o
    amzn.to/2mWLK0J
    amzn.to/2n7937Y
    Cage's Size:
The Size is very important as you want to try and provide the maximum volume for your birds so they would be able to fly and play comfortably, but if you let your birds out of their cage, then you probably can go with a smaller size cage.
    Cage's Design:
The style of the cage is a very important factor. you should try to find a horizontal cage rather than a straight upright one, avoid round cages as well.
    Cage's Placement:
Where you place your cage plays very important role in your budgies health and safety, avoid windows and drafts, and watch out from small children and pets.
    Cage's Features:
Make sure your cage can easily be cleaned, and have different perches for your budgies to perch on.
    Bars Spacing:
Don't get a cage with big bars spacing, it should be about half an inch or 1 centimeter.
    Quality:
Your best option is stainless steel, because it is non toxic solid and budgies can't chew their way out of it.

He has a super small cage but he has A LOT of outside the cage time as I keep the cage door open all day. He likes to surprise me with dive bombs to get my attention and then dance at me from on top of his cage like "Haha I got you!" I keep his essentials in his cage and so it's like his safe space when he's tired

Genuinely one of the most helpful videos I’ve found about budgie cages. I already have two budgies and I thankfully already knew most of the stuff you mentioned in the video. However, I honestly had no idea that budgies’ tails shouldn’t touch the cage’s bars, so I’m definitely relocating their perches a bit. Thank you!

Petco sold me a small cage that I use for relocation and sunbathing my single budgie daily (when it's warm enough). I've got a larger cage situated in my room and would like to introduce one other bird for now because, despite my best efforts, lengthy daily interactions and the copious amounts of toys I introduce, my lone bird never took interest in any of them, got lonely, and then became mirror obsessed. I always leave the cage door open so he can fly wherever he likes around my room, but for now he has to stay inside because I want to quarantine the new bird and make sure he's clean before I introduce them to each other. I just feel really bad about the whole ordeal, I can't let him out because he got mirror obsessed but I shouldn't keep him in because he's lonely, hence the mirror obsession. My parents aren't exactly supportive of me, either, so I'm basically on my own during the whole quarantine process.

    • @BudgieWorld
      @BudgieWorld  Před 5 lety +7

the first cage is good if you have 1 budgie and the cage is open at least 20 hours per day if not all the time, it's good if he goes in and out whenever your budgie wants.
for two hours per day it means your budgie is gonna spend most of the time in the cage.
I would recommend you going for the 1-2 Budgies Cage.
your budgie will be happier, don't forget the cage is basically his home. he needs to feel safe there, and mostly he will spend most of his time in there.
Plus the first cage won't have room for toys and stuff, if you are planning to let him out couple of hours per day, that means he's gonna spend the other time in his cage with toys and stuff. So the cage would be crowded. unless it is open all the time and he can go to his cage to eat and play and go out whenever he wants.

Got one of those great looking cages on wheels ! - Made in China - Worst thing I ever bought! Its 'one of those flat pack cages you assemble yourself - Complete with instructions plus list of tools needed also said half hour of your time to assemble !
    - Came in a large heavy ish cardboard box covered in dust with new cellotape ?- Holding the old box back together again ? - When opened we checked parts list & All the parts were there ? --A good start ? I thought ???
I also noticed that in must have been at bottom of the pile of these- As parts of the metal bars were bent - Metal strips were bent so bottom floor & also the plastic tray would not slide into place - These strips were spot welded into place so delicately that 2 were hanging off ?( 6 spot welds for both strips ) Which my Son straightened and welded back into place - Following week when we were assembling it again - We found the bolts were not long enough -The ones supplied were 1/2 inch long ? - Ones needed were at least an 1 inch long !
So I had to go buy an extra 16 bolts ! -Then there was the casters that screwed into the legs? - Casters were perfect ? - But the nuts that they screwed into - That were welded into the inside of the square tubes that formed the legs - Were welded too far up inside so the threaded screws on the casters supplied were barely reaching the nuts inside so I could not
    Possibly screw them in ?
So I had to buy another 4 castrers - 3 weeks after I opened the box to assemble my budgies new cage it - it took ...
... A bit of panel beating - And welding - And a respray - New Casters New bolts & a large amount of patience - Should of sent the damn thing back on hind sight - So just be careful were you order your cage from ? - You have been warned !

If it had not been for my son being a mechanic - It would have cost me another £ 100 at least ! -And to think thought it was gonna be 3 pop rivets hold those 2 runners back into place haha! -Thankyou Lewis ! -Bogart & Babe love their new Habitat !

They only like hanging out in the larger cockatoo cage 😕
😱 and just heard your comment on the round page 😖
How are they detrimental to their psychological health?

I’m also planning on getting an “outdoor” playground for the bird. I was wondering about food and stuff how many times does a budgie need food and how often do they need fruit and vegetables and how often can they get candy without getting too fat ? I’m really trying to do my research before getting one as it’s a huge commitment but I can’t find exact answers

A single bite from a big macaw can kill a budgie try not to let a budgie with anything bigger than a cockatiel (that also if the birds get along) although it depends on how friendly the bird is a hyacinth can break a coconut with it's break.

if you let them out of the cage and fly , plus there are no breeding pairs and they all go along, then 18x18x32 inch cage would do they job.
however if any of the above is not true , then I would suggest you go with a bigger cage than that, a cage you could afford and have a place for it :)

Personally, if I am looking for a bird cage, I look for one with horizontal bars. I am rather shocked by the number of bird cages in this video with vertical bars. Of course they can still grip vertical bars, it’s just more difficult considering they continue to slide down the entire time they are on the bar.

Also have neeedlr nose pliers to make some bent wires straight. Also buy some zip ties the side door can be opened by them! I bought 500 zip ties off of Amazon for like 12 bucks
