  • I upgraded the brakes on my CLS400 and so can you. You can make these upgrades with various models; from C300 to C43, E350 to E550 / CLS550, and more! Just make sure all part numbers coincide. Any 63 model upgrades (ex. C63, E63, G63) may require adapter brackets to mount the calipers, as well as additional changes. Upgrading to a higher model's, however, is not nearly as pricey, as well as provides a significant improvement! In the case of these 550 upgrades, the rotor is in fact the same size as the 63 models, with the exception being the 2-piece upgrade.

    Breaking distance is unchanged. All modern brakes, the tinniest ones, have the power to easily lock the wheel. The abs system will apply just enough force to stop the car with both brake designs in the same distance. The mass of the car is the same and the tire grip is the same, there's no reason for the distance of breaking to get better. I do agree that at very high speeds, I can see how a larger brake and disc can impact that since there's more lag to slow down a fast spinning chunk of metal and the larger components and more friction area can make a difference, but even then in testing, the results weren't that big unless you're going 300kmph+

    • @TomGlander
      @TomGlander Před 6 měsíci +2

      Agree and would add that the larger brakes and rotors come in to play for heat dispersion, but that only matters during racing. Commonly driven vehicles don't need the extra, but I can appreciate how people WANT that look. That's the nice thing about cars... totally unique to the owner's desires... form over function, or function over form... or simply "I have loads of money and want to pimp my ride." That's why I love cars.

    So I’ve got some front 8 piston rotors off a 2007 clk63 amg black series. I believe the rotors are the biggest they offer.. 380mm? Aside from wheel clearance.. is there anyone that would make the bracket for the rotors to fit the 2019 c43 amg? Or would it be best to sell the two rotors and calipers and just go with a different setup?

    • @mattkochanowski6196
      @mattkochanowski6196 Před 3 měsíci

      not possible. Rotor thickness is different between front and rear. Even if you would managed to slap caliper on rear axle there would not be any matching rotor to install. Other difference is rear has mounting threads integrated in rear axle and front caliper has threads within the caliper not steering knuckle. If that makes sense.

    • @ProjectAuto
      @ProjectAuto  Před rokem

      If you are not pushing them to the limits all the time then it is not worth it. These will be more expensive to maintain and you'll need at least 19inch wheels or spacers with 18 to clear them. Additionally, if you get a flat, you won't be able to use a spare. So I'd say it's not worth it for most people.

    • @Mermasora
      @Mermasora Před rokem

      @@ProjectAutoI believe the spares are designed to always be on the back axles. It’s even stated in manuals that you have to put normal wheel from rear to the front and then put the spare on the back. Also, the spares are only to get you couple miles to the tire shop and are not designed to fully replace your normal wheel.

    • @Mermasora
      @Mermasora Před rokem

      If it’s w205, I don’t think that it has bolt-on solution to upgrade brakes. However, the w204 does have bolt-on upgrade, but I’ve driven c300 and can tell it’s not worth upgrading since it does have fairly good brakes for its size and power.
