Fluid Painting with a Beginner - How To Tutorial Dirty Pour with Swipe Technique

  • Was up north with my friend Amanda and she wanted to know how to do a pour for a while now, so I decided to do a tutorial of the techniques of fluid painting, fluid acrylic mixing with the silicone, Floetrol, glue and distilled water. Plus, it was a perfect chance to be able to get some close up shots of the paint mixes for you all. I have started using some clear cups. Amanda used a swipe technique to make the cells occur more. The silicone really brings the cells out when swiping. Acrylic reacts to the silicone. I hope my mixes will help you too.
    The Floetrol and the glue together are a special mix of mine. The glue acts as a binder to the paint and the Floetrol acts as the pouring medium and thins it down perfectly. The Floetrol also helps the paint dry way better than average without using it, in other words if you just used water. Sometimes in the past where I have used only water I have got cracks in the paint once dried.
    Here's a video with the steps made easy: • Fluid Paint Pouring Ma...

    Hey everyone! Just to let you know I put language subtitles for every language on CZcams (labor intensive, whew!!). So now if you are from France, Germany, Romania, China, Japan or wherever... You will be able to listen in and watch the video. I've had so many requests for this I had to do it. Enjoy!

      Great video for someone new to this. I would have liked more explanation - like what is the purpose for the glue, why will some paint chunk, what the heat gun dies, etc. There's plenty of time while watching her mix and play with paint to add a bit more commentary.

    Brilliant idea to have an actual beginner try this. When experienced people do videos they don't always think of the most basic things. When she is adding the paint you can see her hesitating and you encourage her to add more. The first time I tried this I wished I had someone next to me saying when I had enough of everything.

      Do you mean the flotrol type medium( or glue as he is using) or just a paint ? So many questions, Sorry probably dumb questions but dont know if ya dont ask right?!

      Wow!! What a comment! Thank you. I work really hard to try and explain everything so people can get the gist of it all. Once you get those steps down you can really have a consistent method of painting and your paints will dry just like when you put it on the canvas. That’s one of the main things I’ve found out. Because you can have a neat painting when it’s wet but then it’ll dry weird later on. I know there are lots of videos out there but it took me forever to find out the process too. People like to speed up the videos and skip all the teaching steps. I’m glad you enjoyed it. ❤️

    I really liked this tutorial because the minor mistakes were not edited out. We learn by doing, after all. That said, some of the best outcomes result from "minor mistakes." I've done a few dirty pours on round canvases and they ended up lovely yet kind of planetary. That is because I used too much silicone. The shape of the canvas made a difference in my case.

    I found the push pins at family dollar. Used them on 4 painting yesterday, they worked so much better then me having them set up on my little cups. I did work with my paint mixtures and i do think i got it right this time, not showing any cracking. Believe the paint was to think the 1st time. Thanks so much for your help.

    Try mixing the silver with the Floetrol before adding the glue. There may be something in the silver paint thats polymerizing the pva in the mix causing it to clump up like eggs in hot water. Once whatever is causing that to gum up is diluted in the Floetrol you may be able to introduce the pva without it seizing.

    • @CarlMazur
      @CarlMazur  Před 6 lety +4

      Thanks J!! You know, recently I tried mixing paint with the glue first and it really worked. Like super. I’m gonna try that again or try the Floetrol first like you say. ❤️😎
