Fluid Painting with a Beginner - How To Tutorial Dirty Pour with Swipe Technique

- Was up north with my friend Amanda and she wanted to know how to do a pour for a while now, so I decided to do a tutorial of the techniques of fluid painting, fluid acrylic mixing with the silicone, Floetrol, glue and distilled water. Plus, it was a perfect chance to be able to get some close up shots of the paint mixes for you all. I have started using some clear cups. Amanda used a swipe technique to make the cells occur more. The silicone really brings the cells out when swiping. Acrylic reacts to the silicone. I hope my mixes will help you too.
The Floetrol and the glue together are a special mix of mine. The glue acts as a binder to the paint and the Floetrol acts as the pouring medium and thins it down perfectly. The Floetrol also helps the paint dry way better than average without using it, in other words if you just used water. Sometimes in the past where I have used only water I have got cracks in the paint once dried.
Here's a video with the steps made easy: • Fluid Paint Pouring Ma...
I use only regular gloss acrylic paints... Not matte.

Hey everyone! Just to let you know I put language subtitles for every language on CZcams (labor intensive, whew!!). So now if you are from France, Germany, Romania, China, Japan or wherever... You will be able to listen in and watch the video. I've had so many requests for this I had to do it. Enjoy!
What kind of particules did you get stuck in your fingers ?? Im super curious about that
Wow, I’m subscribing after reading this even before I watch. My guess is anyone who puts in all that effort must be good.
Watched it now and I loved it. Brilliant tutorial and great results.

awesome!!!
Absolutely AWESOME instructor!! Thank you so much for doing this for us!!!
Thanks so much Trish for the comment, you're welcome.
I’m so inspired! Never tried this before but definitely have to after watching.. thanks!!
I was YouTubing epoxy floors/countertops for my house and a couple videos later I came across this art... so in love!
Wow! I’m so glad you found this video Courtney. ❤️
Honestly, I really needed this. Thanks for spelling out the actual step by step process. For novice painters like myself, ( and with severe ADHD), this is great...I even watched the entire video.
Wow! Thanks Jess, I am so glad you liked it!

Thank you for taking the time to help make sense of all the little nuances of how to mix and pour. I found your video super helpful.
Thanks so much Christine! Apparently some find it appalling LOL, but in all reality, I was just showing Amanda how I pour. That's it.
Making a beginner do it is a great idea. Watching a video is never enough but watching a noob suffer the same frustrations actually helps lol.
Haha, yes. I always like to show the reality of situations because that's exactly what viewers experience
congadawg Exactly like when paint gets squeezed right onto the wooden stick rather than into the cup
@@CarlMazur thank you for your informative and kind teaching video... You encouraged me to try!
Great video for someone new to this. I would have liked more explanation - like what is the purpose for the glue, why will some paint chunk, what the heat gun dies, etc. There's plenty of time while watching her mix and play with paint to add a bit more commentary.
I love how amanda’s art turned out! I find it captivating and there is so much in it to see. Very beautiful. Im looking so forwrd to giving this a go. Cheers. Mke
Yes! That will be so fun for you to try. Be careful it's addictive LOL!
Thank you, I have watched dozens of videos and this is the first one to actually show not only what I need, but how to mix it all.
Thanks so much for this video. It's the best one I have seen for a beginner like me. You explained it all so well, in really easy to understand steps. Really enjoyed watching this.
Awe you're welcome Jean. I want to make it as simple as possible for viewers to be able to do this style of painting. It's becoming so popular!
Brilliant idea to have an actual beginner try this. When experienced people do videos they don't always think of the most basic things. When she is adding the paint you can see her hesitating and you encourage her to add more. The first time I tried this I wished I had someone next to me saying when I had enough of everything.
Thanks Michelle. Yeah, it's a bit nerve racking at first but this style of painting is really fun once you get the hang of it. So many options out there now. I am still working on some of the basics. There's some out there that are too detailed for my personal liking but that's okay
Excellent tutorial! Finally found a VERY thorough and easy to follow "dirty pour" instructional video. Glad I found this video and especially this artist. Will definitely be subscribing. Artist's personality and teaching style is such a bonus. Video content is always more important but it absolutely helps when instructor is as terrific as the content.
WOW! Thanks so much Sylvia!! I really really appreciate that. It's hard putting together videos at times that come out just as planned and sometimes they just work. Amanda did a great job too.
Loved your step by step tutorial! Thank you for sharing. Awesome painting, too! I want to use those same colors.
I love to paint. I'm self taught. I've painted lots of birdhouses, paintings and tabletops. I'm imagining how the colors will drip down from the top or sides and every tabletop would be unique. I can't wait to try these new techniques!
Thanks for this excellent video. i have watched others but enjoyed yours most of all. You have a very pleasant voice to listen to and didn't go too fast but fast enough that I had the patience to watch through to the end. I'm going to my studio right now to play.
You are very welcome Meryle :) I'm so excited for you to try! You will have a blast. Wha I love about this painting style is there are endless ways to pour and have fun and be creative. Glad you stayed with the video.
You're a wonderful teacher! Got all my supplies and ready to do my first pour, but was nervous until watching your video! Thanks so much!
You’re so welcome Cheryl! I’m so glad you’re getting to do your first pours! ❤️
So happy I found this! Great tutorial thank you😊✨
this is awesome, you explain things very well. I'm trying to get my courage up to try! Thanks!
Awesome Mark! :)
Carl, This is the BEST tutorial I have seen for pouring, and I it's great that you take the time to answer people's questions. I wanted to see if my Granddaughter and her friends would like to do this for her 14th birthday activity, but couldn't find a tutorial that I thought would work for them ~ now I have. Your video just might get a few young people interested in painting! Thank you so much!
Now that REALLY makes my day! Inspiration to the young ones. I have lots of young viewers and they love to paint.
I'm gearing up to try my first pour. Thank you so much for such a detailed video. I cannot wait to get started!
You’re welcome Alli! Thanks for watching
Thank you for teaching me this technique. I a beginner and was not sure how to start and the amount of the mixes. Thank you.
Loved this video thank you!!! I’d like to add that it’s also helpful to tighten the canvas. Spray water and use a blow dryer (not heat tool) to tighten the canvas. Do this on both sides front and back.
You are welcome Maria! Thanks for the input too... :P
Really good instructions for beginners. Thank you.
You are welcome Jeanette!
Amazing. Looking forward to trying it out. Thanks
Teamwork, clear and understandable.
Thank you both.

Perfect video for the beginner! Thanks to both of you!!
You're welcome, thanks for the comment
Love it!
You have a twin in Louisiana Carl. I had to take a 2nd look... y’all even sound the same 😀
That’s awesome!! Hahaha 😆 🤪 I’m sure I have some twinners out there. Mellody find me on Facebook and share the pics of the twinner 😝
This is a great video. But when she opened that canvas the way she did with the razor, my heart skipped a beat lol
It's beautiful so you really don't have to completely do the sides it's cool like it is like to see her next one
same!
I always poke a hole in the back to open it
Mine too 🤪
This has been so informative. Thank you for each and every step. I needed to see how the floetrol, glue, water and silicone was mixed and the amount. I feel confidant. Woohoo
Deb that’s awesome. You’re awesome!
Great video! Thank you for posting
Thank u from Australia 81 year old keep up the great work
You’re so welcome Madge! Keep on painting! I sure love my viewers.

This is just the sort of tutorial I have been looking for! Can't wait to get experimenting! Thank You!
I’m so glad you found this Willow! ❤️
Love the bottles of each individual ingredients. For controlling the amt of product. Thanks for the video. Great teacher
Thank you for showing it all step by step so easy to follow and understand. Thank you also for using products that are accessible to just about everyone

Beautiful colors!
What a great Tutorial!! I love that you replied to so many questions. It's great to learn from those also. Definatley a new subscriber here!
Well, thank you so much! I haven't replied as much lately because I got busy with other job stuff, but I sure appreciate you subscribing.
excellent video for future reference. wish you had this one a few months ago when I started pouring.thanks again carl, you are making this style of art accessible to everyone who wants to try it and thats a beautiful thing God Bless you!
You’re welcome Rick. I appreciate it
I was very impressed with this tutorials .
that came out amazing!! Thanks for the step by step too. its rare that someone does a step by step mixing guide and it has help me understand more about how to mix my stuff before i pour. i plan on trying pour painting sometime in the near future.
THANK YOU !!! Been needing to watch a beginner's vid for a while now.
For the very beginning to the end. It's more than just pouring and moving paint that's for sure. Even though I have already done a few pours , this is a must watch kinda thing.👍
Thank you so much Barbara for leaving that nice comment. ❤️❤️🥰
Thank you for showing us how to do these paintings you were very helpful thanks❤️
That painting looks like the Great Barrier Reef, so well done for your first one Amanda
Thanks so much Lyn. That’s very sweet.
The push pins are brilliant ! I usually balance it precariously on some plastic cups!
Very instructive! And a good student dare I say! Thank you!
Absolutely the best tutorial I have see. You answered so many questions just by doing! thank you so much! And beautiful work Amanda!
Thanks so much Karen. That means a lot
Really enjoyed this video. I was looking for the basics for beginners. You did a great job explaining and taking the time to answer questions on the comments. 💙
Thank you for the comment. I appreciate that. 🥰
Great step by step instructions. Thank you!
Thank you Debra! ❤️
Amazing! I'm hooked.
Best tutorial ever
This was a great video! I’ve never tried this because I didn’t know what to do. Thank you for making this video. Really inspirational!
Thanks Gina!!
Carl, amazing from every aspect , thank you!
Although her ‘first time’, the student is either familiar with the process or is a natural. Excellent instructions given. Timely and clear. No excessive jabbering which can cause overload. Good one. Congrats👍
The most important thing before painting. prime the canvas with the medium, otherwise the edge absorbs the paint. Otherwise well explained.
Do you mean the flotrol type medium( or glue as he is using) or just a paint ? Should the paint have the flotrol added before base coating canvas, or just the acrylic itself? leave wet or dry prior to pouring? So many questions, Sorry probably dumb questions but dont know if ya dont ask right?!
I only add the Floetrol afterwards. I don’t prime a canvas ever. I buy mine preprimed. I mix the Floetrol after I mix the acrylic paint with the glue first. Then add Floetrol and mix. It’ll be awesome!
@@CarlMazur You had her mix the floetrol and glue, then the paint. ??????
Carl Mazur o
That simply isn't true. Tiktus is an experienced pourer. I have to think Tiktus meant that the canvas has to have been Gesso primed, and as far as I know, most people buy their canvases already primed with Gesso.
I am SO GLAD that someone finally explained the paint thickness, preparation, etc. There are THOUSANDS of pours on CZcams. This is the First, and so far ONLY video that went into the mixing and explanation of why, etc. THANK YOU!!
Wow!! What a comment! Thank you. I work really hard to try and explain everything so people can get the gist of it all. Once you get those steps down you can really have a consistent method of painting and your paints will dry just like when you put it on the canvas. That’s one of the main things I’ve found out. Because you can have a neat painting when it’s wet but then it’ll dry weird later on. I know there are lots of videos out there but it took me forever to find out the process too. People like to speed up the videos and skip all the teaching steps. I’m glad you enjoyed it. ❤️
omg think this is one of the first paint pour videos I ever watched!! WOW
It's so beautiful. Thank you
Love your step to step video - thanks!
You are very welcome!
EXCELLENT CLASS!!! Thank you so much!
Thank you for the techniques and from the starting ,your teaching , wonderful.
Thanks for showing me how to do this it looks really awesome! :)
Finally a thorough mixing video! You were so organized and precise. This was exactly what I've been looking for. Thank you both. Her piece turned out beautifully.
Wow!! Thank you Phadarea for your wonderful comment.
What about precise proportions? So you can replicate the effect?
Thank you, love the tutorial on mixing. A first for me to see. ❤️
Thank you Deniese!
BEST tutorial I’ve watched. Thank you
Love it no body else said we have to put glue and all the other things you said thanks so much love it
Thank you for this video! I've watched so many beginner how to pour videos but this was the best by far. Simple and straight forward. Not all of the stopping to explain why this and not that, just a this is how to do it video.
Wow! Thank you so much! That means a lot. Glad to have helped.
Yay! Thank you for posting this! Exactly what I've been looking for :) subscribed!
Awesome! Super awesome Luna!! ❤️❤️
I am so glad I found this step by step procedure. Ty so much!
You are welcome Loretta!
That's really cool! Thanks for showing us how!!
I am loving your teaching...
Thanks Loretta! I am loving your comment, lol. You rock!
Overall the best “beginner” video I have seen. The other comments help. I am spending a lot of time watching videos before I pour. I have all the paint, additives, canvasses, etc. Thank you!
Thank you so much Teddy!
Dont follow this one. It's way off
I think he is just trying to score with Amanda !! Ahwjajhaa
Fantastic video for beginners
I love you for saying that!
Loved your teaching us, of how to...
Wow! This what I was looking for. Thank you!
Sure thing. Glad I could help.
I love how once she starts the creativity just flows & she takes off just creating! Thank u for this helpful vid. I do mixed media & I’ve wanted to try pour painting forever... ur a great teacher. Gratitude brother. 🙏🏻💚
I tried this out a couple of years ago after watching your video. Turned out amazing! I used red, gold, pink and white. Love it. I want to try pouring resin over it now.
That would be awesome!!
Came out nice this looks pretty thanks for sharing
Thank you Maxine! ❤️
Thank you so much for this video! I am getting ready to start these types of paintings and needed to see it from a novice's perspective:)
You’re so welcome Marilyn!
Nice mix tutorial and great to see you stand down when she worked the painting
Awe shucks.. You're welcome.
Great tutorial. Thanks for all those tips too. I gotta try it soon!
Finally a video that shows mixing the ratio of paint from a tube for a beginner. Thank you!
You’re welcome ! Thanks for watching!
the best video-tutorial I have seen on YT so far! TNX a lot!
I really liked this tutorial because the minor mistakes were not edited out. We learn by doing, after all. That said, some of the best outcomes result from "minor mistakes." I've done a few dirty pours on round canvases and they ended up lovely yet kind of planetary. That is because I used too much silicone. The shape of the canvas made a difference in my case.
I like how he is step by step so when you venture forward you have a solid base so thank you Just found you made so other people can hear in their own language. You Rock Peace
Great lesson thank you!! I just fast forwarded the mixing parts, its the beauty of not watching something live :)
Absolutely! Thank you so much Taurie!
I found the push pins at family dollar. Used them on 4 painting yesterday, they worked so much better then me having them set up on my little cups. I did work with my paint mixtures and i do think i got it right this time, not showing any cracking. Believe the paint was to think the 1st time. Thanks so much for your help.
You are welcome Michele. I wish you all the best on your paintings and keep practicing, it does help lots
Thank you so much for showing this in detail. I have been looking for something like this and I now understand how these beautiful paintings are made!
I am so excited. I actually felt like I was a student in your class. I think I'm ready to start . I just need to get the basics. I haven't watched your other videos but now I know what I'm doing Sunday. Thanks for the great job.
Great tutorial. Thank you. I can’t wait to do my first pour!! 💙💚💙
I’m so excited you get to do your first pour. That’s so exciting! Thanks for watching Meg
Carl I loved your lesson. You see I am used to paint oil but I really would like to try this kind of technique. I already subscribed and hope to learn more. Thanks for your help. Grace from Portugal.
Thank you so much!
you guys are doing a good job
I did this method with different coloured nail varnishes on one side of a double sided hand mirror for my Mum when I was 6. 50 years ago
on purpose?
Best vedio till now !! Very well explained
VERY HELPFUL of you, excellent sharing. Thank you!
Thank you SO MUCH for this tutorial!! It turned out beautiful!!!
Try mixing the silver with the Floetrol before adding the glue. There may be something in the silver paint thats polymerizing the pva in the mix causing it to clump up like eggs in hot water. Once whatever is causing that to gum up is diluted in the Floetrol you may be able to introduce the pva without it seizing.
Thanks J!! You know, recently I tried mixing paint with the glue first and it really worked. Like super. I’m gonna try that again or try the Floetrol first like you say. ❤️😎
@@CarlMazur can u pl update this in your caption or somewhere? Also what about the sides of canvas?
M totally new and found this video so helpful. Thank a bunch
Thank you for the sharing....for beginners 😍😊
You're so welcome.
Thank you for step by step instructions!
You’re so welcome Karen.
This is the best acrylic pouring video out there. It leaves no room for guessing. The instructions and explanations are perfect! Thanks
Wow! Thanks so much Jessica!
Love this tutorial !
Thank you so much!!!! This is a wonderful gift ....understanding how all this works 🤔.... Thank you thank you thank 🤗
