    Would love it if Lego would make sets on other elements of Star Wars, other than just the movies and tv shows. We need sets based off the Expanded Universe, so much material there for Lego to use.

    • @PenPlays
      @PenPlays  Před rokem +33

      Absolutely. They do some from time to time, but it's very rare. For instance, the Resistance IT-S Transport was based off the Rise of the Resistance Disney Parks ride, and Darth Vader's Castle had some inspiration from the VR game, Vader Immortal. Both have links to comic book runs too. There's even a buildable droid of BD-1 from Jedi Fallen Order/Survivor. I think maybe the most niche one they've done is the Azure Angel - Anakin's modified Starfighter from the original Clone Wars series. It even included a specific version of Asajj Ventress to go with it.

    I like the idea. However, I think what would be economical for Lego is have these sets, the “ever green”, be your Army Builders. Using the OT as an example, instead of having Luke’s X-Wing, have the X-wing with three characters - a pilot, an astromec droid, and a mechanic. Three generic characters so you can use it for the Rebellion, New Republic, and the Resistance. This set is truly meant for mass production to be sold a a set price, like $50, for a few years at a time. Then every three years have Luke’s or Poe’s X-wing come in at $70 have more unique pieces and color, have have five to seven characters. The same thing can be said with the Tie-Fighter, set it at $50 with special versions of the First Order/The Empire’s at $60-70. I think viewing it as an “army builder” is a better way to describe it.

    • @richh6001
      @richh6001 Před rokem +5

      I've been thinking the same thing. Lego should apply that principle to their other themes like City too, with certain basic cars and buildings always available, but with special unique sets that release yearly with their regular 1-2 year shelf-spans.

    • @LordJaroh
      @LordJaroh Před rokem +2

      This is along the lines of how I would think to. This way, the main characters can be used as a draw for the "mainline" new sets.
      I also appreciate the little add on builds they included in some sets, like construction equipment and the like. Change those up every so often, so eventually you could amass enough to put together a scene from them.

      This would be so great, having a squadron of 50$ "army builder" x-wings led by a 60-70$ x-wing that's more vibrant or robust (like Poe's X-wing from 2020) would be so great and I have no doubt that most lego star wars fans would love to have options like that

    regarding the idea of the x-wing being interchangeable with different characters, making those pieces be something like a polybag would be an incredible idea for Lego. imagine being able to buy Luke’s X-wing but say you want Bigg’s X-wing or Wedge’s, buying say a $5 or $10 bag with a figure, some pieces, maybe stickers, and instructions to change the original set to those other ones would be fantastic and i’d love that. It would be cool too if a pack was made to make it the version that Rey pilots in TROS, it would be such a cool way to get unique mini figs and update a timeless set at a relatively cheap way for Lego and for the customers.

    A LEGO Star Wars evergreen subtheme made up of essentials would be a perfect addition to the brand. Would allow collectors of all ages the opportunity to get essential LEGO Star Wars sets at the same time.
    I’ve always had an issue with LEGO putting out remakes that are subpar to their predecessor. It’s probably part of the reason why I’ve lost interest in LEGO Star Wars.
    This would solve that issue, as these are common sets, and as you said, there’s not much you can improve upon in just a couple years, which leads to LEGO putting out sets that aren’t as good as their predecessor. If a remake can’t be better than what came it before it, don’t put it out. Just leave the current edition on shelves, especially if it’s an in demand product.

    I love this idea, and I would definitely recommend the mtt to be a evergreen set. it's iconic from phantom menace, comes with a load of battle droids, and they can even offer a alt color one for the cis version from the clone wars. same build just different colored pieces. heck even have a addon pack that includes a alternate rack build to hold super battle droids instead of b1s.

    • @ethanstone1176
      @ethanstone1176 Před rokem +1

      another thing that popped into my head for this, to include some regular mini figs and not just the droids. for example: phantom menace version includes 2-3 generic gungan warriors, clone wars version includes 2-3 shiny phase 1 or 2 clone troopers. make it a bit more worth it for army builders.

  • @andrewrash1931
    @andrewrash1931 Před rokem +2

    What I think would work for this line is it starts off as regular normal retail sets that are then moved into the “Evergreen” line that is more or less a Lego exclusive keeping iconic sets available until an updated version is released.
    What I think should always be available for Sets:
    1. X-Wing
    2. The Falcon
    3. A Tie Fighter
    4. Anakin’s Jedi Starfighter
    5. Imperial AT-AT
    6. Imperial AT-ST
    7. Republic Gunship
    8. Droid AAT
    9. Naboo Starfighter
    10. Luke’s Landspeeder
    Battlepacks should be separate from sets, and need to include a minimum of 3 of the exact same trooper if not all 4 the same.
    1. Clone troopers P1 (BARC Speeder)
    2. Clone Troopers P2 (AT-RT)
    3. Droid battle pack
    4. Imperial Stormtroopers
    5. First order stormtroopers
    The rest should follow your idea of being interchangeable parts having completely swappable parts to make dozen of different trooper options just by buying multiples of the same sets
    6. Rebel troopers
    7. Resistance troopers
    8. Mandalorians
    9. Jedi
    10. Pirates (like Jabba’s henchmen)

  • @basslightyeah

    I came up with a set series called "Legions". Basically a type of set included in every wave similar to brickheadz, microfighters etc. The set consists of a build and 4-5 minifigures, 2 named, 2-3 troops.
    This way, we could get Clone Wars minifigures like Anakin and Rex +501st troopers, Obi Wan and Cody +212th, Plo Koon and Wolffe +Wolfpack troopers etc. in just one set. Include one per wave and you get 4 different clone legions per year, leaving enough space for Lego to cover current star wars media. This structure can also be adapted for OT content, make a set with Luke Leia Han Chewie and Lando for example. The goal of these sets is that collectors have access to essential character figures for a good price.

  • @bsstephenson10
    @bsstephenson10 Před rokem +4

    I think Lego did the the idea of a package refresh with the first wave of Toy Story sets from 2010 going into the third movie and its tie in sets which in that case, Lego seems to have overlooked that strategy themselves. If I had to choose sets to be evergreen, I would pick Republic gunship and Sith infiltrator. The former since that one has the most custmization potential and the latter since it would be at least one way to get Darth Maul consistently and have one vehicle to represent the first episode which has already had iterations before.

  • @oliveregerton-smith1534
    @oliveregerton-smith1534 Před rokem +1

    I totally agree with the concept of this idea and would love lego to do it. But you also have to remember that they know what they are doing. By making sets especially battle packs, not include just generic troopers all the time it means people have to keep buying loads of them and then they end up with something like 50 darth vaders. But thats whats clever about their marketing. They pull you in with the unique characters and then add in some others that noone is perticularly interest in and that way your pay for a product which only contains half of what you actually want. This means you then want to buy more than one to make up for it.
    Overally though i would love them to do actual battle packs that are just characters and or with one speeder or something but make them as cheap as they can i.e £10 or so.

    Part swap packs are a cool idea but lego wouldn't do them because it would take everything to make the part pack but only a fraction of the people who bought the set would buy it. Also most battle packs would need atleast 1 different trooper as regular people would be bored with 4 generic troopers so sales would be hurt and they also allow people to obtain a quantity of rarer troopers like the shock trooper or another uncommon one i can't think of. • @nooneofimportance1734

    One thing I'd also suggest is that, with a package refresh, LEGO could also rerelease the same set under a different trilogy/movie. For example, they could keep the Millennium Falcon build around, but at the usual refresh time, they could make the EPVI version an EPVII version, or an EPIV version, etc.
    This would obviously change the budget slightly, but if LEGO wants to incentivize people who already have the Falcon to buy another, it accomplishes this without having to redesign the build. Alternatively, on "refresh years," they could just release companion sets for the larger models. For example, when the Episode IV Falcon is 4-7 years old, release a Home One set that has all of the figs to make it an EP VI version, or a Bespin set with the Han and Leia to make it an EP V version. That way, they can avoid $15 parts packs if they want, but still give the option to redo the Falcon build as people want it.
    And on a more drastic change, they could also release the exactly same Delta-7 build with a different color scheme for Ahsoka instead of Anakin, etc.. Again, a little more budget, but not as much as releasing a full new design for it.

    Finally, someone talks about this issue. I am very tired of LEGO re-making a set years later after the initial release. You buy an AT-AT and you like it, you say to yourself, this is the best one and LEGO just decides, yeah it's not good enough and they make another one. The only option you can solve this issue is by buying a UCS ser which, not many people afford.
    If they do decide to make a Definitive Collector Series that are the best of the best and never get improved they would need to:
    - Upgrade printing machines, yes, I am tired of getting my R2-D2 head print tilted.
    - Remove stickers, I know it's going to be expensive, but no one likes stickers.
    - Make minifigures accurate and perfect, that means no hybrid between cartoon and movies like the 2020 style, 2014 style of clones are superior, add some leg printing, arm printing, MORE CLOTH PIECES, PONCHOS, PAULDRONS, etc.

    They could have an AT-AT in an Endor moon themed box. Include a scout trooper and two stormtroopers, an Imperial officer, and the two drivers. Then they should have a small box set, say for $20 or $30, with Luke Skywalker and Darth Vader, including a small build for the platform that the AT-AT is docked at from Return of the Jedi.😂 I was most 11 years old and Return to the Jedi was in theaters, but my parents only allowed for me to have the Marvel comic book adaptation. For many reasons I always will love that, because it allowed for me to recreate scenes whenever I wanted without having to watch the movie.

    I feel like the ideal evergreen TIE fighter would have at least two pairs of interchangable "wings". The first one could have parts for a pair of traditional hexagon wings and a pair of interceptor wings, a future one could replace those with treads, etc. It would require some more design ingenuity, but I think a bomber or defender could be worked in as alt-modes, too. Vader's TIE may be too specific, though, so it could be a set that just gets remade every now and then. I suppose you could even work in First Order/Final Order alt-modes.

The most powerful thing you said is that they shouldn't put exclusive or named characters in unnamed vehicle sets (like TIE fighters and bombers), because people are likely to want to buy more than one. @@PenPlays Total agreement. For example, the First Order Special Forces TIE Fighter variant was a set that might have been a good opportunity to include Finn and Poe as named characters (in addition to two generic pilots), since it was a unique variant with a specific movie tie-in and a limited period of release. But the regular Imperial TIE Fighter evergreen sets should just have a TIE pilot and a couple stormtroopers.

    What if when they redo the millennium falcon they started with a new hope, and then repackaged the same ship with empire strikes back figures a year later. Then the same for jedi in another year and so on and so forth. I think it would be really cool, gives us figures we've never had before and it would be cheap for lego.
    The way I'd do it is:
    A new hope: Han, Chewie, Luke, Leia, Obiwan, Vader, And a stormtrooper. The side build would be the scanning machine.
    The empire strikes back: Han, Chewie, Leia, 3po, Lando, Lobot, Bespin guard. The side build would be a treadwell droid and a minoch.
    Return of the jedi: Lando, Nien numb, Rebel trooper, Rebel ground crew, Wedge antilles, Admril ackbar. The side build would be a ship matinence cart.
    The force awakens: Han, Chewie, Rey, Finn, BB-8, Guavian death gang leader and member. The side build would be a rathtar, and the radar dish is changed to rectangle until episode 9.
    The last jedi: A bunch of Porgs, Rey (poncho), Chewie, R2, Luke, Nun and finally a shirtless Kylo. The side build would be the porg camp fire.
    The rise of skywalker: Lando, Chewie, R2, Finn, Poe, Kluad, Jahnna. The sidebuild would be a space horse.
    I know there's also solo, but that Falcon's such a big departure I decided not to do it.

    I like the idea from a consumer/lego fan point of view, but it just doesn't make economic sense for lego. You mention that it would reduce cost for lego, well that's not the issue. Lego has plenty of capital to invest, the supply side is set. The issue is demand. These evergreen sets aren't gonna complement existing sets and justify their parallel existence by being lest costly, they're going to displace some sets from every new wave of Star Wars. These sets won't increase demand for star wars by anywhere near the amount required to have say five extra sets in production, so some sets are gonna be cut every year because they'd have to compete in an even greater lineup. Basically, the only way this can happen is if we accept a drop in the number of new sets being released because there simply isn't enough demand for both. Your average parent isn't gonna distinguish between sets in that way. This sort of thing can only really be justified in sets with very high cost and specialized demand, like the Falcon which is targeted at adults/Star Wars fans and not the general lego consumers
